Far from doing everything it can to minimize civilian harm, the IDF has said its “emphasis is on damage and not on accuracy.”

6ix, this is not really complicated when Israelis say they are going after Hamas but the methods Israelis use kill women and children above ground rather than Hamas in underground bunkers.

I promise you that I have no interest in America going to war with anybody, especially when it has nothing to do with us just as every conflict in my entire life has been.

If Trump says it, I will add that to the list of things I disagree with him on. Unlike Second and Ted with Democrats and the Biden* regime, I'm not afraid to call Trump out on his bullshit when he says it.

Our problems are IN our borders, and the Muslims are already here.

Including them, we have plenty to deal with.

The only reason at all that I'm on board with sending any money to Israel right now is that our new house speaker is only going to pass that if they defund the IRS $80 Billion. If that gets stripped out, I don't want any money going to Israel for anything.

Israeli government admits internal report recommended forcing all Gazans into Egypt | November 1, 2023

Israel has acknowledged that a government ministry drafted a report proposing the forced, permanent transfer of Gaza’s population to Egypt, fueling fears of a further catastrophic dispossession of Palestinians.

The 10-page document by Israel’s Ministry of Intelligence, dated the 13th of October, recommends the transfer of Gaza’s population of more than 2 million people to Egypt’s Sinai Peninsula, as the preferred option for securing Israel’s security at the end of the assault on Gaza. https://www.972mag.com/intelligence-ministry-gaza-population-transfer/

The document recommended that civilians from Gaza be evacuated into northern Sinai where they would be housed in tent cities and serviced by a humanitarian corridor before permanent cities were built. A buffer zone of several kilometers would also be created along the border with Israel.

The report recommended that this strategy should be pitched to the international community as a humanitarian approach to minimizing civilian casualties in Israel’s assault on Gaza and be accompanied by a push for Arab and Western countries to also take in Palestinian refugees.

The report drew alarm from Palestinian officials, evoking memories of the Nakba (“catastrophe” in Arabic), which refers to the mass displacement of Palestinians in fighting surrounding the creation of Israel in 1948.

“We are against transfer to any place, in any form, and we consider it a red line that we will not allow to be crossed,” Nabil Abu Rudeineh, spokesman for Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, told the AP. “What happened in 1948 will not be allowed to happen again.”

The proposal will also likely alarm Egypt – the first Arab state to recognize Israel in 1979. Egypt has not responded to the Israeli paper but it is opposed to taking in refugees from Gaza, suggesting they should be relocated to Israel’s Negev Desert until Israel’s assault on Gaza is over.

Surging Abuse Of West Bank Palestinians May Spark New Front For IDF
Friday, Nov 03, 2023 - 06:10 AM

In a trend that threatens to spark a major Palestinian uprising in the Israel-occupied West Bank and a new combat front for the Israel Defense Forces, abuse directed at Palestinians by Jewish settlers and IDF soldiers
has surged in the wake of the Hamas attack on southern Israel.

There have been more than 170 attacks
Quote:

QUSRA, West Bank, Nov 2 (Reuters) - Mourning his father and brother, Mohammed Wadi says armed Israeli settlers from outposts overlooking his olive-growing West Bank village no longer aim low when they shoot at Palestinian neighbours. "Now, they shoot to kill," he said.

Violence in the Israeli-occupied West Bank, already at a more than 15-year high this year, surged further after Israel hurtled into a new war in the separate enclave of Gaza in response to Palestinian militant group Hamas unleashing the deadliest day in Israel's history on Oct. 7. by Jewish settlers on West Bank Palestinians since Oct 7, and some of them have been deadly. In one back-to-back episode, three Palestinians were shot dead on Oct 11. The next day, settlers and soldiers descended on the funeral procession and killed a man and his son.

Last Saturday, Bilal Mohammed Saleh was harvesting olives with his family when four armed Jewish settlers accosted them, witnesses say. The family fled, but when Saleh doubled back to retrieve his phone, he was shot dead. More than 120 Palestinians have been killed in the West Bank since Oct 7. This video purports to show the incident:
https://twitter.com/i/status/1718970150685392935

Since Oct 7, Palestinians also report widespread threats and intimidation. Palestinians have found threatening leaflets

Israel-Palestine war: Settlers threaten West Bank children with bloody dolls

Israeli settlers in the occupied West Bank have distributed threatening leaflets on cars and left bloodied dolls at schools, warning Palestinians to leave or be killed.on their cars, https://www.middleeasteye.net/news/israel-palestine-war-west-bank-atta

reading:

"By God, we will descend upon your heads with a great catastrophe soon. You have the last chance to escape to Jordan in an organized manner. After that, we will destroy every enemy and forcefully expel you from our holy land...Load your bags immediately and leave wherever you came from. We are coming."

Others say settlers have come to their homes, telling them to leave within 24 hours. Many families have taken the threats to heart and fled. The UK's Channel 4 News reports Jewish settlers blocking roads with boulders, cutting electricity lines to Palestinians' homes, and shutting down water wells -- "they do everything they can to render life in these villages unlivable."

It's not just civilian settlers who are inviting a Palestinian uprising. This week, photographs and video recordings made by soldiers and circulated online depicted their abuse and humiliation of Palestinian captives. In one, soldiers have stripped and blindfolded seven laborers who were trying to enter Israel without the proper paperwork. They're needlessly thrown around, with one dragged across the ground and another has a boot placed on his head.
Quote:

IDF soldiers film themselves abusing, humiliating West Bank Palestinians
By Gianluca Pacchiani 1 Nov 2023, 4:48 pm 93
Dozens of pictures and videoclips have emerged over the past week showing IDF soldiers abusing and humiliating Palestinians apprehended in the West Bank, often while they are blindfolded and handcuffed.

In one of the most brutal videos, which has been blurred, IDF soldiers filmed themselves as they abused seven West Bank laborers who were caught as they attempted to enter Israel without a permit, in an area south of the South Hebron hills.

The footage shows the Palestinian men stripped naked or half-naked, blindfolded and handcuffed, and screaming in pain. One of them is being dragged on the ground.
. . .

The incidents of abuse have occurred amid escalating tensions in the West Bank between Palestinian and Israeli security forces and settlers. According to Palestinian government sources, 122 West Bank Palestinians have been killed since the start of the war between Hamas and Israel on October 7.

Most of the casualties were caused by IDF fire, while in a handful of cases Palestinian were gunned down by settlers. MORE AT https://www.timesofisrael.com/idf-soldiers-film-themselves-abusing-hum

https://twitter.com/kzxkzxkzxkzx/status/1719351372888387965

This latest spike in abuse comes in a year that was already considered the worst in more than a decade. There were 21 killings of West Bank Palestinians by settlers before Oct 7, and already another 8 since, according to the U.N. Humanitarian Affairs Office, OCHA.

In an analogue for what the IDF is now doing in Gaza, Jewish settlers are prone to punish innocent individual Palestinians for the actions of others. As we reported in June, for example, in the wake of the killing of four settlers, mobs of West Bank settlers went on a rampage in several Palestinian villages, setting fire to dozens of vehicles and occupied homes and killing one person.

Settlers have a long history of assaulting Palestinians, wrecking their property and destroying olive groves that are essential to their livelihoods and are a cherished part of their culture.

https://twitter.com/ShaykhSulaiman/status/1720029333861896250

Much of settlers' bad behavior happens in direct view of the IDF, though at times soldiers do intervene to keep the violence within limits. However, with the IDF's resources now being focused on the war in Gaza, settlers are more free to act with impunity.

At the same time, Jewish settlers have been emboldened by the installation the most extreme ruling coalition in the country's history.

National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir -- the man responsible for policing the West Bank -- adorned his living room with a photograph of mass-murdering settler Baruch Goldstein, who killed 28 Muslims and wounded 125 more in a 1994 massacre.

Settlers are often seen carrying AR-15 rifles. The 29-year-old son of one of the slain funeral attendees told Reuters that while settlers used to fire shots into the ground or air as a scare tactic, things have changed: "Now, they shoot to kill."

Those rifles are about to grow in number. Earlier this month, Ben-Gvir announced his ministry would distribute 10,000 rifles

Quote:

Ben Gvir says 10,000 assault rifles purchased for civilian security teams https://www.timesofisrael.com/ben-gvir-says-10000-assault-rifles-purch
ased-for-civilian-security-teams
/

to distribute to "civilian security teams" in border towns like those attacked by Hamas, but also in mixed Arab/Jew cities and West Bank settlements.

The West Bank has twice been the scenes of popular uprisings called "intifadas," an Arabic word that roughly translates into "shaking off." The first intifada lasted from December 1987 to September 1993. The second began in September 2000 and petered out in 2005. Together, they brought death to about 1,400 Israelis and 5,000 Palestinians. If a third intifada is in the cards, expect mayhem in the form of Palestinian riots, shootings and suicide bombings.

Unlike Gaza, the West Bank areas in which Israel allows a small degree of Palestinian autonomy aren't ruled by Hamas, but rather the Palestinian Authority. However, Gallup polling of West Bank Palestinians before Oct 7 found a marked decrease in hope for the next generation, with just 28% saying their children have opportunity to learn and grow.

Israeli settlers stealing Palestinian olives in vew of IDF
https://twitter.com/i/status/1717845143443677542

Similarly, a late-2022 poll found 69% felt a two-state solution was impossible given widespread Jewish settlement of the West Bank, and 65% backed the formation of Palestinian militias. Notably, only 26% said they supported Hamas.

Against that backdrop of hopelessness after 56 years of military occupation, if Israeli settlers and soldiers continue their heightened abuse of Palestinians, a third intifada seems inevitable. Combined with the potential for all-out war with Hezbollah in the north, that could leave the IDF fighting a multidimensional, three-front war.

Ta-Nehisi Coates Speaks Out Against Israel's "Segregationist Apartheid Regime"

Nov 2, 2023
As pressure builds for a ceasefire after 27 days of Israel's bombardment of Gaza, author and journalist Ta-Nehisi Coates joins us in a broadcast exclusive interview to discuss his journey to Palestine and Israel and learning about the connection between the struggle of African Americans and Palestinians.

"The most shocking thing about my time over there was how uncomplicated it actually is," says Coates, who calls segregation in Palestine and Israel "evil." "There's no way for me, as an African American, to come back and stand before you, to witness segregation and not say anything about it."

Coates acknowledges the suppression of those advocating for Palestinian rights but says this is not new for Black writers and journalists. "I have to measure my fear against the misery that I saw."

Not that this really needs to be done, because who cares what Ted thinks?

But yeah... I've done that for a very long time now.

You'll notice that a pretty good majority of the links and articles I post are actually from Leftist sources.

It's why a lot of my RWED posts are no longer topical. The Leftist media surprisingly ends up getting a lot of things right... eventually.

They pump all the disinformation in the world while people are fired up about an issue, but once the issue is no longer of any real relevance, at least in the minds of the forgetful masses and/or on a political level, they'll finally put out a little article admitting the truth all along without ever actually apologizing for lying and/or getting it wrong because of their bias.

I'm not a prophet. I'm not right as often as I am because of some voodoo magic.

I detect patterns is all.

Gaslighting is actually very easy to detect if you have a good memory, you expose yourself to it regularly, you have an above-average IQ and you're not a partisan shill.

Consider that article I posted by New York Magazine on the lockdowns just the other day:

http://fireflyfans.net/mthread.aspx?tid=65804

https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/opinion/covid-lockdowns-were-a-giant-ex
periment-it-was-a-failure/ar-AA1j5lgV

The fifth paragraph of that article reads as follows:

Quote:

One of the great mysteries of the pandemic is why so many countries followed China’s example. In the U.S. and the U.K. especially, lockdowns went from being regarded as something that only an authoritarian government would attempt to an example of “following the science.” But there was never any science behind lockdowns — not a single study had ever been undertaken to measure their efficacy in stopping a pandemic. When you got right down to it, lockdowns were little more than a giant experiment.

The article then goes on to invoke George W. Bush's name 8 times while blaming his administration for the Covid lockdowns, concluding the blame game with this paragraph:

Quote:

The Bush team’s final document, published by the CDC in February 2007, stopped short of mandating lockdowns but came as close as its authors dared, calling for the use of “social distancing measures to reduce contact between adults in the community and workplace.” One of the leaders of the effort, a government scientist named Richard Hatchett, would later tell Lewis what he really believed: “One thing that’s inarguably true is that if you got everyone and locked each of them in their own room and didn’t let them talk to anyone, you would not have any disease.”

Hey... yanno what? You're not going to get any argument out of me that GWB (at the time) was the worst President we ever had and he oversaw the erection of the DHS and the creation of the Patriot Act, after which our country was never the same.

But you motherfuckers were all in on locking everyone down at the time.

Now you're going to come out 3.5 years later and admit it was all a failure, but instead of APOLOGIZING for being one of the bullhorns for government tyranny against the citizens, you're going to just blame the Republican who came and went 12 years before anybody knew that Wuhan was a place in China?

Get fucked, NY Magazine.

With the internet at our disposal, maybe we should look back at your catalog with 20/20 vision and get a proper view on unwrapping exactly how "One of the great mysteries of the pandemic is why so many countries followed China’s example." came to be.

Let's see what you had to say at the time, shall we?

Why Was It So Hard to Raise the Alarm on the Coronavirus?

Quote:

Today, the world is almost a controlled experiment in pandemic response, and the returns are already unmistakable: The nations that took the most aggressive actions, most quickly, have fared best, and those that have moved cautiously, waiting for undeniable prompts to action, have done worst. In South Korea, the implementation of what is effectively a medical surveillance state means that life in most of the country has continued mostly undisrupted, at least by the standards of Wuhan or the lockdowns now in Lombardy and New York and San Francisco; in the U.K. a strategy to stand down and let the virus pass through the population proved so disastrous that, within a few weeks, it was abruptly reversed; in Iran, they are digging mass graves big enough to be seen from space.

The Lockdown Backlash May Be the New Tea Party Movement

https://nymag.com/intelligencer/2020/04/the-lockdown-backlash-may-be-t

Quote:

At first it was just random resistance from rural or Mountain West areas hardly affected initially by the coronavirus pandemic. But now it’s spreading to places near COVID-19 hot spots where some people think restrictive measures to stop the spread of the coronavirus have gone too far, or are willing to take their chances (and force others to do the same) with deadly infection in order to keep their businesses, their jobs, or their “freedom” as they understand it.

By now it’s clear that there is an organized national effort to fight extended lockdown orders. It has already helped generate loud public protests in Michigan, Ohio, and Kentucky. And it’s probably going to spread nearly as rapidly as the coronavirus itself in the rich soil of anti-government subcultures where it’s widely accepted that “tyrants” are exploiting the emergency to impose their godless socialist views on freedom-loving but fearful Americans.

Faced with the desperation of a disintegrating revenue base and spiraling needs for social spending, governors may be forced to risk the health of their citizens and try to gamble that they can restart the economy. The certainty of an unsolvable fiscal crisis, requiring massive cuts to education and health care, may outweigh the risk of a new outbreak. If the economy blossoms, Trump gets the credit. If the recovery sputters because people remain afraid to leave their homes, or if they do leave their homes and thousands of them die, then the governors who made the decisions get the blame.

National Conservatives Coordinated State Lockdown Protests

https://nymag.com/intelligencer/2020/04/national-conservatives-coordin
ate-state-lockdown-protests.html

Quote:

It’s been obvious from the get-go that the rapidly spreading protests against state coronavirus stay-at-home or “lockdown” orders were intensely ideological in nature, emanating from hard-core conservatives who didn’t much believe the pandemic was real or had objections to government-imposed restrictions of dangerous activities on various pseudo-constitutional grounds. And it’s also been apparent that these protests were not spontaneous but largely the product of local, state, or national coordination by right-wing groups, many of them veterans of the tea-party movement that also began over a decade ago as a bunch of “plain citizens” in Revolutionary War garb and insignia who just happened to share the constitutional, fiscal, and economic policy views common among well-heeled K Street conservative lobbies and Republican pols.

There’s new reporting from the New York Times illustrating the connective tissue among these state protests, which (like the tea-party movement) has some grassroots elements but wouldn’t have gone very far without the artificial turf of national coordination.

...

These groups need all the firepower they can get to give the protests the look of size and momentum, since polls show a sizable majority of Americans support the measures they are protesting, some of which have emanated from Republican governors and those trying to follow the Trump administration’s own guidelines. Their relationship with the White House is both stealthy and symbiotic, since they are keeping the president’s fingerprints off extremist activities he has clearly inspired, and that may help him mobilize supporters for his reelection campaign.

...

Eventually the tea party became a self-conscious faction of the GOP before its anti-government and anti-Obama slogans were absorbed by the Republican Party so thoroughly that the imagined separation was no longer credible. In the hothouse atmosphere of the pandemic and the run-up to the 2020 elections, any claim that anti-lockdown demonstrators are independent from Team Trump probably won’t last as long as newly planted grass seeds in a cyclone.

In the furor of demands to pare back coronavirus-related restrictions on business and other activities (a.k.a. “reopening America”), churches — particularly conservative Christian churches — have been very prominent. Given the considerable overlap these days between white Evangelicals and the Republican Party, it’s not surprising that the former share the latter’s rapidly growing inclination to view COVID-19-related public-health measures as a socialistic impingement on individual freedom and private enterprise.

Reopening the City Too Soon Is, Effectively, Age Discrimination

Soon, New York will start pulling up shutters and setting out chairs. Work-from-homers will venture beyond their neighborhoods from time to time. Employees will trickle back into offices. Housekeepers, electricians, dentists, and security guards will repopulate the subway, because they will have no choice. The city is gambling that we have learned enough in these past months to keep the risks under control — that masks, distance, hygiene, and anxiety will keep us, if not exactly safe, then safe-ish. With no cure, no vaccine, and limited treatment, we have to rely on our own behavior and that of everyone around us. We have to trust our fellow New Yorkers to stay home at the first sign of the sniffles, to share our habits of caution, to wait for the next train if necessary, to step politely aside. We have to trust the MTA to keep crowds thin, employers to think through workplace logistics, the transportation department to dissolve the knots where pedestrians might jam the sidewalks, the school system to have a plan for a million kids that will protect their families too. Lockdown was easy compared to this.

The U.S. passed 2 million total coronavirus cases last week, reaching the mark just six weeks after it hit 1 million. According to Reuters, “Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Florida, North Carolina, Oklahoma and South Carolina all had record numbers of new cases” in the past week.

Columbia University virologist Dr. Angela Rasmussen wrote on Twitter Monday that Arizona, Alabama, North Carolina, and South Carolina need to go back on lockdown “like NOW.”

“At least 4 states are going to need to reinstitute stay-home orders this week–like NOW–to stop upward case trajectories,” she wrote. “This pandemic is still going on. We failed to use the time we bought to prepare & build capacity. We reopened before we were ready. Now we pay.”

People Don’t Trust Public-Health Experts Because Public-Health Experts Don’t Trust People

Quote:

Almost as soon as the first marches to protest the killing of George Floyd began, in Minneapolis on May 26, conservatives and COVID contrarians seized on the rallies as a case study of liberal coronavirus hypocrisy. If the disease spread rapidly through the assembled protesters, they felt, it would show that those who’d spent the spring scolding Americans for resisting lockdowns didn’t care as much about public health as they did about advancing their own set of political values. (Liberals, of course, would put it differently: that the cause was worth the risk.) If there were relatively few new cases, the thinking went, it would demonstrate that the lockdowns themselves were unnecessary.

Three weeks later, we have the first results from the natural experiment: Across the country, from Minneapolis to California and New York City to Albany, the protests produced, at most, very few additional cases of COVID-19. The same, more or less, was observed in the aftermath of the much-derided Lake of the Ozarks Memorial Day party (where one sick partygoer may have infected as many as … one other). Does this mean we’re out of the COVID-19 woods, all clear for mass gatherings and the end of social distancing, and that the intrusive and intensely burdensome lockdowns of the spring were excessive? Well, no. The same week, a major study led by Berkeley’s Solomon Hsiang exploring the effect of lockdowns across the world found that, in the U.S., social distancing and shelter-in-place guidelines prevented as many as 60 million additional cases (since, at least in the early days of the epidemic, many more are believed to have been infected than were tested for the disease). And if those measures had been implemented sooner and more effectively, one review suggests, between 70% and 99% of American deaths could have been avoided. Instead of 120,000 deaths, we might have had fewer than 2,000.

American Death Cult Why has the Republican response to the pandemic been so mind-bogglingly disastrous?

https://nymag.com/intelligencer/2020/07/republican-response-coronaviru
s.html

Quote:

By midsummer, as the coronavirus receded throughout most of the world, Trump’s supporters were engaging in cultlike displays of devotion. Republicans were pointedly holding mask-optional gatherings. “When the good Lord calls you home,” one Republican Senate candidate explained, “a mask ain’t going to stop it.” As masks became symbols of subservience to public health (“COVID burkas,” as former Trump official Sebastian Gorka called them), these people even held rallies to protest them. A county Republican Party chairman in Kansas who owns a weekly newspaper published a cartoon depicting face masks as yellow stars and the people bearing them as Jews forced into cattle cars.

In Scottsdale, Arizona, a Republican city councilmember announced, “I can’t breathe!” before dramatically removing his face covering. A Republican sheriff in Ohio, despite a statewide facial-covering requirement, declared, “I’m not going to be the mask police. Period.” The first day that Oregon governor Kate Brown imposed a requirement that residents wear masks in public, four police officers walked into a coffee shop in Corvallis mask-free, and when asked to comply with the order, they yelled, “Fuck Kate Brown!” In recent weeks, more than 20 county health officials have left their jobs in the face of protests, harassment, and threats. Georgia governor Brian Kemp went so far as to ban local governments from mandating masks.

In late June, Trump staged an indoor rally in Tulsa. His staff removed stickers on seats intended to space out attendees. Announcing his presence, Cain wrote, “Masks will not be mandatory for the event, which will be attended by President Trump. PEOPLE ARE FED UP!” (A few days after the rally, Cain tested positive.)

...

And they will be tapping into a deep vein of paranoia. Polls have shown somewhere between a quarter and a third of the public already does not intend to take a vaccine when it becomes available. In a country with a cult of self-reliance so ingrained that every new mass shooting propels more panicked arms purchases, is an act of collective, mutual security like public vaccination even workable?

The truly remarkable thing about the right-wing revolt against public health is that it has taken place under a president whom conservatives trust and adore. From the standpoint of running the government, these have been awful conditions for handling a pandemic. But from the standpoint of persuading citizens to cooperate, they have been almost optimal. When we look back a year from now at the frenzied, angry revolt against science, the spring and summer of 2020 may seem like halcyon days.

Trump Publicly Attacks Dr. Fauci as the Third Wave of the Pandemic Begins

https://nymag.com/intelligencer/2020/10/trump-is-now-publicly-attackin
g-dr-anthony-fauci.html

Quote:

President Trump repeatedly attacked and denigrated the nation’s most respected infectious disease expert, Dr. Anthony Fauci, on Monday. Trump first started in on Fauci during a call with his campaign staff, and then publicly on Twitter. Later at a campaign rally, Trump warned that his Democratic challenger, Joe Biden, would actually listen to Fauci’s advice. The new insults came, not coincidentally, one day after Fauci said on 60 Minutes that he was “not surprised” that the president had caught COVID-19, confirmed that the White House has been restricting his media appearances — and revealed that he has received death threats amid the pandemic.

Trump called Fauci “a disaster” during a morning call aimed at rallying his staff for the final stretch of his flagging reelection campaign. But going after Fauci is a puzzling tactic, to say the least. Polls have consistently shown that Americans approve of and trust the top public-health official far more than they do Trump or anyone else with regard to the pandemic. In addition, Trump’s mishandling of COVID-19, which has killed nearly 220,000 Americans and is currently prompting a third wave of cases around the country, appears to be the most significant reason he is falling further behind Biden in the polls.

...

“They’re getting tired of the pandemic, aren’t we?” Trump also said during his rally in Arizona on Monday. “You turn on CNN. That’s all they cover. COVID, COVID, pandemic. COVID, COVID, COVID, COVID. Wha, uh-uh. You know why? They’re trying to talk people out of voting. People aren’t buying it, CNN, you dumb bastards.”

Pandemic fatigue is real, of course, but annoyance doesn’t make the virus go away. And COVID-19 continues to be a massive story across the media because it continues to be a massive crisis across the country — and it’s getting worse as the U.S. heads into what Dr. Fauci and most other experts warn will be the most difficult phase of the pandemic yet. But instead of talking about flattening the curve, Trump keeps crazily claiming that the country is rounding the corner to recovery — and now appears to be jealous of not only Fauci and Biden’s popularity, but how much more attention the pandemic gets than him.

Quote:

In 2003, SARS had been eliminated after only 8,000 infections; its biggest foothold outside Asia was in Canada, which reported just a few hundred suspected cases. With COVID, Sridhar says, “I was following the response in China. They went into lockdown. You saw New Zealand pivoting that way and then Australia after.” But not the U.K., where an erratic series of scientific advisories pushed the government first to embrace a target of herd immunity, then to backpedal, but not enough. Sridhar describes those advisories with retrospective horror, an inexplicable preemptive surrender by the public-health apparatus.

“Basically, going back to January, they’d be like, ‘China’s not going to control it; 80 percent of the population is going to get it; all efforts to contain it are going to fail; we have to learn to live with this virus; contact tracing and testing make no sense; this is going to be everywhere; right now we need to build up hospitals’ — which they didn’t even do. But they really didn’t think it was stoppable,” she says. “And then all of a sudden you started to see, in February, South Korea stopping it, Taiwan stopping it, and China stopping it. Then, in March, New Zealand. And then Australia. And then there’s this realization of, ‘Oh, wow. Actually, it is controllable.’”

That's what I thought, motherfuckers.

You painted anybody who was against lockdowns as evil, selfish people who wanted to kill your grandmother.

Meanwhile, you praised the actions of EXTREMELY TYRANNICAL GOVERNMENTS who forced the citizens inside their homes at gunpoint or rounded up people who refused a vaccination in concentration camps.

But now, 3.5 years later you're willing to admit that lockdowns were a mistake, and you're not willing to take one single ounce of the blame.

And you have the fucking nerve to ask why so many countries followed China’s example.

FUCK YOU NEW YORK MAGAZINE.

Blinken got a big fat "no" when he begged Netanyahu for just a brief "humanitarian pause'.

Meanwhile, Israel has bombed a refugee camp, a convoy of ambulances, a Christian church, a couple of hospitals, who knows how many mosques, a road on which people were fleeing south as directed by Israel itself, and countless homes and civilians.

In a panic, the IDF bombed houses in the kibbutz killing Hamas terrorists and Israeli settlers alike. An IDF helicopter pilot admitted to firing on cars fleeing the kibbutz, not knowing who was in them.

The long catalogue of intelligence failures that allowed Hamas to stage its brutal surprise attack on October 7 begins at The Venetian, Sheldon Adelson’s Las Vegas resort.

There was a reason the Adelson task force formally demanded pledges of secrecy before, during, and after the meeting. Once they closed the door at the Venetian, they opened the door to potential criminal prosecution as agents of a foreign power, a very serious offense punishable by up to a decade in prison. According to 18 USC § 951: “Whoever, other than a diplomatic or consular officer or attaché, acts in the United States as an agent of a foreign government without prior notification to the Attorney General…shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than ten years, or both…. For purposes of this section, the term ‘agent of a foreign government’ means an individual who agrees to operate within the United States subject to the direction or control of a foreign government or official.”

Yet that, in fact, was precisely what Netanyahu was proposing.

Within a few months, Netanyahu’s war began. Key Jewish donors in the United States were secretly approached with a proposal by Psy-Group, an Israeli psychological warfare firm with close connections to Mossad. Code-named “Project Butterfly,” the proposal outlined a clandestine operation within the “theater of action,” as the company referred to the United States. Its purpose was to damage specific Americans and US organizations associated with the boycott movement. It would develop ways to disrupt their activities, lead them to be falsely investigated by the authorities, and run a hidden media influence campaign against them.

According to its secret internal operations plan, Project Butterfly was aimed at “executing intelligence and influence efforts” against Americans by creating an “infrastructure for narrative warfare — alternative messaging and negative platforms.” In other words, by creating fake news outlets, phony Facebook personas and posts, and other forms of information warfare, Psy-Group’s goal was to deliberately deceive the American public about Israel and its actions against the Palestinians.

To those ends, General Vaknin-Gil issued a stark warning. “In order to win,” she said, “we must use tricks and craftiness.” They would include threats, intimidation, harassment, covert influence operations, troll farms, fearmongering, blacklists, and espionage. The key was turning thousands of Americans into clandestine Israeli agents to spy on and carry out the operations against their fellow citizens. Secrecy, emphasized Vaknin-Gil, was therefore critical. “We are a different government working on a foreign soil, and we have to be very, very cautious,” she said.

The closer you look, the more Netanyahu resembles Trump

By Jennifer Rubin

Roughly 80 percent of Israelis blame Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his coalition government for the Hamas catastrophe, according to a poll by the Hebrew newspaper Maariv. During the unfolding pogrom, and in the days and in the weeks after, the utter lack of effective, empathetic action by the government has left Israelis fuming. (Government inaction left a void that volunteers, including thousands who participated in pro-democracy protests, are now filling.)

After an announcement of a new phase in the Gaza military action (about which many Israelis have mixed emotions), Netanyahu declared at roughly 1 a.m. on Sunday, “Contrary to the false claims: Under no circumstances and at no stage was Prime Minister Netanyahu warned of Hamas’s war intentions.” He added, “On the contrary, all the security officials, including the head of military intelligence and the head of the Shin Bet, assessed that Hamas had been deterred and was looking for a settlement. This assessment was submitted again and again to the prime minister and the cabinet by all the security forces and intelligence community, up until the outbreak of the war.”

In saying so, Netanyahu is both crediting Hamas with the element of surprise and daring supporters to remain mum in the face of his self-serving comment. This was very much akin to four-times indicted former president Donald Trump’s declaration that Hezbollah was “very smart.”

The reaction was fierce and immediate. Benny Gantz, the leader of a major opposition party who agreed to be part of a special war cabinet, denounced the tweet. “On this morning in particular, I want to support and strengthen all the security forces and [Israel Defense Forces] soldiers, including the IDF chief of staff, the head of military intelligence, the head of the Shin Bet,” Gantz added early Sunday. “When we are at war, leadership must display responsibility, make the correct decisions and strengthen the forces in a way that they will understand what we demand from them …. [T]he prime minister must retract his statement.”

Likewise, “Netanyahu crossed a red line tonight,” said opposition leader Yair Lapid. “While IDF soldiers and officers are fighting bravely against Hamas and Hezbollah, [the PM] is trying to blame them, instead of supporting them. The efforts to evade responsibility and place blame on the security establishment weakens the IDF while it is fighting Israel’s enemies.”

Former intelligence and military leaders also weighed in. And, for a brief moment, it seemed that Netanyahu might be at risk of losing power during the war, as some foreign policy critics have urged.

Utterly cornered, Netanyahu did something he rarely does: He apologized. “Facing a barrage of criticism, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu deleted a controversial social media post on Sunday in which he blamed the defense and intelligence establishment for giving him faulty assessments before the deadly Hamas attack on Oct. 7,” Haaretz reported. “The prime minister then published a new tweet. ‘I was wrong,’ he wrote, adding that 'the things I said following the press conference should not have been said, and I apologize for that. I fully support the heads of [Israel’s] security services.”

He did not, however, take full responsibility for the calamity.

Shortly after Netanyahu took down his tweet, I received an email from a trusted Knesset source: “Netanyahu’s tweet last night as a new low point. When you think it can’t get worse … it does.”

Boy, did that sound familiar to anyone who has witnessed Trump’s career. Just when you think Trump cannot do more damage to undermine democracy, debase political language, sow violence and enable racism, he, too, hits new lows.

The controversy of the Israeli prime minister’s tweet reminds us how much Netanyahu resembles Trump. These are men who continually insist only they speak for the country, only they can shield it from harm. They dehumanize and demonize any opposition and cannot display a modicum of empathy. And when their own incompetence leads to avoidable deaths (e.g., a Hamas attack, a raging pandemic), they deflect and cast blame elsewhere. Impulsive, afraid of humiliation and tone-deaf, they never learn their lesson, as Sen. Susan Collins (R-Maine) incredulously claimed Trump would do after his first impeachment. They never improve; they only get worse.

“Netanyahu displays the classic strongman attributes of prioritizing self-preservation,” historian Ruth Ben-Ghiat told me. “He was laser-focused on ‘judicial reform’ to the detriment of national security, and he allied with extremists such as Itamar Ben Gvir who were a destabilizing influence.” She continued, “Add in the strongman syndrome of not listening to experts (from intelligence and military sectors) who warned him of the consequences of his actions and we have another case of the toll of autocratic models of leadership.”

These personality traits are not unique to Trump and Netanyahu. A psychology study in Nature journal found:
Quote:

Given authoritarians’ general willingness to submit to traditional authorities, combined with their intolerance of ambiguity and need for closure, it is perhaps unsurprising that right-wing authoritarianism predicts tolerance for, and susceptibility to, misinformation. Authoritarianism also fosters conspiratorial thinking about politics, especially if the conspiracy supports the status quo. … [T]hose who are high in right-wing authoritarianism will go to great lengths to protect the in-group — including believing the unbelievable and other ‘alternative facts’ propagated by in-group authorities. The implications of right-wing authoritarianism thereby extend beyond out-group perceptions and into areas that impact public health and safety.

Finally, right-wing authoritarianism influences people’s views on the environment and science, especially when these topics are perceived to conflict with long-standing conventions and traditional authorities. For example, right-wing authoritarianism predicts anti-climate change beliefs, resistance to plant-based diets and science scepticism in general. Longitudinal analyses further reveal that right-wing authoritarianism precedes both increases in climate change denial and decreases in environmentalism.

https://www.nature.com/articles/s44159-023-00161-4

Consider another example: Russian President Vladimir Putin. Surrounding himself with flunkies unable to tell him he is wrong, cut off from objective sources of information, convinced of his own infallibility and lacking any empathy, he blundered into a brutal, bloody and unwinnable invasion of Ukraine. The ensuing war is bringing his country massive death, economic ruin, social implosion and international isolation.

Netanyahu’s outburst can serve as a warning to Israelis. Authoritarian figures of his ilk never learn, never reform and never take responsibility. If Israeli society wants to recover and avoid repeated errors perpetrated by strongmen, it must get new leadership — preferably before more damage can be done.

Israel minister suspended after calling nuking Gaza an option | November 5, 2023

Politico reports: https://www.politico.eu/article/israel-minister-amichai-eliyahu-suspen

Israel’s Heritage Minister Amichai Eliyahu was suspended indefinitely after he said in an interview that dropping a nuclear bomb on the Gaza Strip was “one of the possibilities,” the government announced on Sunday.

“Eliyahu’s statements are not based in reality,” Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said in a statement on X.

Israel and its military “are operating in accordance with the highest standards of international law to avoid harming innocents,” the prime minister added.

A member of the ultra-nationalist Otzma Yehudit (Jewish Power) party, Eliyahu earlier on Sunday claimed in a radio interview that since there were “no non-combatants in Gaza,” using an atomic weapon on the Palestinian enclave was “one of the possibilities.”

Eliyahu later sought to rectify his statement, saying it was “clear to all sensible people” that his reference to nuclear weapons had been “metaphorical.”

Opposition leader Yair Lipid has asked for Eliyahu’s immediate removal, denouncing a “shocking and crazy statement by an irresponsible minister.”

Israel, which has one of the most powerful armies in the Middle East, is widely believed to possess nuclear weapons, although it has never publicly conducted nuclear tests.

More than 10,000 Palestinians killed since 7 October, say health officials

By Euronews with AFP/AP

Published on 06/11/2023 - 08:13 • Updated 18:32

The latest developments from the Israel Hamas war.

More than 10,000 Palestinians have been killed since 7 October, according to the latest figures released by the Hamas-run Health Ministry in Gaza.

The grim toll includes more than 4,100 children and 2,640 women.

The development comes after Israeli airstrikes hit two refugee camps in the central Gaza Strip on Sunday, killing scores of people, health officials said.

Israel has so far rejected US suggestions that it take a humanitarian pause from its relentless bombardment of Gaza and the rising civilian deaths.

In the occupied West Bank, more than 140 Palestinians have been killed in settler violence and Israeli raids.

More than 1,400 people in Israel have been killed, most of them in the 7 October Hamas attack that started the bloody conflict, and 242 hostages were taken from Israel into Gaza by the militant group.

Roughly 1,100 people have left the Gaza Strip through the Rafah crossing since Wednesday under an apparent agreement among the United States, Egypt, Israel and Qatar, which mediates with Hamas.

Biden would not be secretive about weapons if he was proud of how they were being used by Netanyahu, the Trump of Israel, to kill women and children:

U.S. Weapons Transfers to Israel Shrouded in Secrecy — but Not Ukraine

By Ken Klippenstein | Nov 7, 2023

https://theintercept.com/2023/11/07/israel-us-weapons-secret/

One month since Hamas’s surprise attack, little is known about the weapons the U.S. has provided to Israel. Whereas the Biden administration released a three-page itemized list of weapons provided to Ukraine, down to the exact number of rounds, the information released about weapons sent to Israel could fit in a single sentence.
https://media.defense.gov/2023/Sep/21/2003306164/-1/-1/0/Ukraine-Fact-
Sheet.PDF

National Security Council spokesperson John Kirby acknowledged the secrecy in an October 23 press briefing, saying that while U.S. security assistance “on a near-daily basis,” he continued, “We’re being careful not to quantify or get into too much detail about what they’re getting — for their own operational security purposes, of course.”

“The notion that it would in any way harm the Israeli military’s operational security to provide more information is a cover story.”

The argument that transparency would imperil Israel’s operational security — somehow not a concern with Ukraine — is misleading, experts told The Intercept.

“The notion that it would in any way harm the Israeli military’s operational security to provide more information is a cover story for efforts to reduce information on the types of weapons being supplied to Israel and how they are being used,” William Hartung, a fellow at the Quincy Institute for Responsible Statecraft and expert on weapons sales, told The Intercept. “I think the purposeful lack of transparency over what weapons the U.S. is supplying to Israel ‘on a daily basis’ is tied to the larger administration policy of downplaying the extent to which Israel will use those weapons to commit war crimes and kill civilians in Gaza.”

A retired Marine general who worked in the region, who asked for anonymity because he was not authorized by his former employer to speak publicly, attributed the secrecy to the political sensitivity of the conflict. In particular, the retired officer said, weapons used in door-to-door urban warfare, which are likely to result in civilian casualties, are not going to be something the administration wants to publicize. (The National Security Council did not respond to a request for comment.)

In recent years, flare-ups of violence between Israel and Hamas in the Gaza Strip have often entailed Israeli air wars with limited numbers of Israeli troops entering the besieged costal enclave. The last time there was a large-scale ground incursion by the Israel Defense Forces into Gaza was during the Israelis’ 2014 Operation Protective Edge.

While the 2014 invasion saw Israeli troops in Gaza for less than a month, Israel’s defense minister recently told reporters the war would take at least several months. The goal of removing Hamas completely from power is widely expected to take a significant commitment to a long-term ground presence and heavy urban fighting. According to the New Yorker, Israeli officials told their American counterparts that the war could last 10 years. The Biden administration is reportedly worried that Israel’s military objectives are not achievable.

On Monday, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told ABC News, “Israel will, for an indefinite period, will have the overall security responsibility because we’ve seen what happens when we don’t have it.”

“Delicate Matter Politically”

Hamas’s attack on Israel, which took place on October 7, resulted in a cascade of arms assistance from the U.S. Though the Biden administration at first declined to identify any specific weapons systems, as details trickled out in the press, it has gradually acknowledged some. These include “precision guided munitions, small diameter bombs, artillery, ammunition, Iron Dome interceptors and other critical equipment,” as Pentagon spokesperson Brig. Gen. Pat Ryder has said.

What “other critical equipment” entails remains a mystery, as do specifics about the quantity of arms being supplied, which the administration has refused to disclose. When a reporter asked for a “ballpark” figure for the security assistance during a background press briefing on October 12, the Pentagon demurred. “I’m not going to do that today and would defer you to the government of Israel,” a senior defense official told the reporter.

“To date, U.S. government reporting on arms transfers to Israel has been sporadic and without any meaningful detail,” Stimson Center research analyst Elias Yousif recently concluded. “Updates should be compiled on a single factsheet page, as is the case for Ukraine, and include details on the authorities invoked for the provision of assistance as well as the type and quantity of arms provided with enough specificity to enable public research and assessments.”

Hartung, the Quincy fellow, noted the contrast with the administration’s openness on military aid to Ukraine.

“Transparency on arms transfers to Ukraine came in large part due to the administration’s feeling that they were engaged in a noble venture,” Hartung said. “Although Israel certainly has the right to defend itself against the kind of horrific attack carried out by Hamas, its response — bombing and blockading a whole territory of 2 million people, killing thousands of innocent people in the process — has been described by independent experts as committing war crimes.”

“So even as the Biden administration backs Israel with weapons and rhetoric,” Hartung said, “it is a delicate matter politically to give all the details on U.S. weapons supplied to the Israeli military, some of which will certainly be used in illegal attacks on civilians if the war continues to grind on.”

Beyond just the quantities, there are specific weapons the Pentagon is providing Israel which have not been publicly disclosed, the Marine general told The Intercept.

As the arms continue to flow, dozens of C-17 military transport planes likely carrying munitions have criss-crossed the Atlantic traveling between the United States and Israel, open-source flight tracking data show, with most landing at Nevatim Air Base, an IDF base in Israel’s southern Negev desert. President Joe Biden has requested $14.3 billion in aid for Israel in addition to the over $3 billion in military assistance it already provides. Most recently, the Biden administration is planning to send $320 million in precision Spice bombs to Israel, as multiple outlets informed by Congress reported on Monday.

Eliminationist language and false analogies: neither are in short supply now. In Jewish circles close to me, far too close, I hear talk of needing to wipe out all Palestinians, to level Gaza, to embrace retribution and revenge. For these relatives and acquaintances, Hamas’s attacks stand for a primordial Palestinian Jew-hatred and the scourge of an age-old antisemitism. There is a straight line, in this way of thinking, from the Kishinev Pogrom to the massacre at Kibbutz Be’eri, from Nazi violence in Germany to the attacks on Kfar Aza. On October 28, in his press conference laying out Israel’s retaliatory intentions, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu cited a passage from Deuteronomy, urging the Israelites to “remember what Amalek did to you.” Those of us who studied I Samuel in Jewish day schools know that he was referring to the Biblical nation of Amalek, the symbolic power of their merciless attack against the Israelites wandering in the desert after their Exodus from Egypt, and God’s commandment to King Saul to destroy everything they had: “Spare no one, but kill alike men and women, infants and sucklings, oxen and sheep, camels and donkeys!” These are analogies enlisted to justify a thirst for vengeance not only against Hamas but against the Palestinian people as a whole — an impulse to kill without end.

Hamas’s attack may have been no less enraging than such tales from religious scripture or the state-sanctioned Cossack assaults against defenseless Jews in the Pale of Settlement, but it was produced by very different forces: it was an attack by a nationalist, Islamist armed party against a powerful state that maintains control over the fate of the Palestinian people. Scholars of Jewish history have worked for decades to understand how the structural conditions of diasporic life changed when Israel’s creation drew many Jewish people back into modern history as agents of their own future, asserting sovereign dominance, maintaining a monopoly of force with a strong and capable army, controlling a state, occupying territory, and carrying out violence of their own — and what those changes meant for the collective rights of the state’s non-Jewish inhabitants.

You can be against what Israel is doing without being anti-Jewish, just as you can be for a Palestinian homeland with being for Hamas.

IMHO I see no difference between setting off a suicide vest versus bombing civilians from 30,000 ft, except suicide vests are less effective and require a lot more courage. Killing civilians for a political purpose is terrorism, whether it's committed by a nation-state or a militia.

If you think there's a difference then explain to me what that is.

A couple of people whose analysis I respect seem to think that the Hamas attack wasn't a surprise to the Israelis. That it was anticipated and will be used as a springboard by the USA to expand th war to Hezbollah and eventually Iran.

I haven't come to any conclusion, but IMHO it's a little like 911: It benefitted the Israel and neocons so much that even if the CIA and Mossad didn't set it up, they had no good reason to stop it. That's the difference between MIHOP (make it happen on purpose) and LIHOP (let it happen on purpose).

To pile horror on horror, IDF added to the Israeli death toll by firing on settlers homes with both Hamas AND Israeli settlers inside, and using helicopter gunships to attack cars fleeing the music festival without knowing who was inside, knowing they could always blame Hamas. And to bring things to a boil, killing thousands of Gaza civilians, and firing on Syria, looking for all the world like they are trying to provoke Syria or Hezbollah and eventually Iran into a greater war.

All of our military assets in the area just for Hamas? Not likely!

It seems like too many coincidences and otherwise inexplicable decisons aimed towards predetermined outcome.

And BTW if anyone thinks that Israeli and American neocons couldnt be THAT cynical.. well, yes, they could.

On THAT cheerful note! ...

The US and Israel are diverging on war in Gaza and what comes after

By Howard LaFranchi | November 13, 2023 | JERUSALEM

https://www.csmonitor.com/World/Middle-East/2023/1113/Why-US-and-Israe
l-are-diverging-on-war-in-Gaza-and-what-comes-after

Just over a month into the war in Gaza, differences between the United States and Israel are widening on key elements of the war. This is not to say President Joe Biden’s support for Israel is wavering. Rather, his administration’s disapproval of the way Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is conducting the war is growing.

U.S.-Israel differences over the postwar plan focus in particular on how a Gaza flattened to rubble but still home to 2.3 million Palestinians would be administered.

The White House wasted no time in rejecting Mr. Netanyahu’s suggestion that Israel might remain in Gaza indefinitely, with national security spokesperson John Kirby saying President Biden “maintains his position that reoccupation by Israeli forces is not the right thing to do.”

Friday, on the sidelines of a G7 foreign ministers meeting in Tokyo, U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken concurred, and laid out a set of principles, including “no forcible displacement of Palestinians from Gaza, no use of Gaza as a platform for launching terrorism or other attacks against Israel, no diminution in the territory of Gaza, and a commitment to Palestinian-led governance for Gaza and for the West Bank, and in a unified way.”

Yet as numerous Israeli analysts have pointed out since, those “principles” run counter to a number of pronouncements by members of the Israeli government planning for postwar Gaza.

The coming clash over governance, Mr. Novik says, will pit the U.S. and a “consensus” of the international community favoring the Palestinian Authority – which rules the West Bank under Israeli occupation – as the enclave’s eventual administrator, against an Israeli government that disdains the PA and has worked in recent years to weaken it.

Still, some analysts caution that it won’t be solely international forces that pressure Israel to wind up its military campaign faster than the army might like. Inexorable domestic pressures, they add, are also going to place time limits.

“One clock is the steady supply of ammunition,” says Ambassador Oren. “We just aren’t going to be able to shoot indefinitely.” Other domestic “clocks” he lists include the limits on long-term deployment of the army’s 360,000 reservists, and the impact the war is having on the economy.

“So there are many clocks,” he says, “and we have to keep our eye on every one.”

Why it matters: The scathing five-page memo — organized by a junior diplomat who has suggested on social media that Biden's support of Israel has made him "complicit in genocide" in Gaza — offers a rare look at the raw divisions within the Biden administration over the Israel-Hamas war.

The Israeli public has embraced the Smotrich doctrine

The internalization of the far-right minister's 'Decisive Plan' is evident in the popular support for a new ultimatum for Gaza: emigration or annihilation.

By Orly Noy | November 10, 2023

. . . demographic concerns will be ameliorated by offering the 3 million Palestinian residents a choice: to renounce their national aspirations and continue living on their land in an inferior status, or to emigrate abroad. If, instead, they choose to take up arms against Israel, they will be identified as terrorists and the Israeli army will set about “killing those who need to be killed.” When asked at a meeting, in which he presented his plan to religious-Zionist figures, if he also meant killing families, women, and children, Smotrich replied: “In war as in war.”

Israel’s comically bad disinformation effort proves they’re losing the PR war | November 15, 2023

The Daily Beast reports:

Israel’s official Arabic account affiliated with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs posted a selfie video of a Palestinian nurse condemning Hamas for taking over al-Shifa hospital in the Gaza Strip on Nov. 11.

But some things about the video didn’t add up.

Everything about it smacked of high school theater—from the botched accent that sounded like it was straight out of an Israeli soap opera to the perfectly scripted IDF talking points rolling off her tongue.

Hamas were stealing the fuel. Check.

Hamas were taking morphine. Check.

Then there was the pristine white lab coat looking like it had just come back from the dry cleaner, the audio track of bombs falling that sounded like samples from a late-’80s Casio keyboard, and the contrived stethoscope-waving you‘d expect from an extra on Grey’s Anatomy.

Hamas hadn’t stolen her makeup though, which was immaculate.

The Palestinian Ministry of Health logo slapped strategically in the background but visible over her shoulder looked like an OSINT honeytrap.

“This video must be authentic right, I can see the Health Ministry logo”—at least that’s what whoever made it would hope the burgeoning army of sketchy anonymous OSINT (open source intelligence) researchers might say.

The only thing missing was a degree hanging in the background saying Tel Aviv Upstairs Medical College.

Oh, and perhaps I should have mentioned this first, no one at al-Shifa had ever seen the nurse before.

Soon, the volume of ridicule directed at those sharing it reached such a pitch that the Israel Arabic account deleted their tweet. I guess they didn’t know the source either.

Forget Nurse Ratched, this was more like Nurse Hatchet-job.

They were on the losing side, but not the wrong side in their minds, which is why they rebuilt slavery in everything, except the name, so that it would be "legal". Bad guys never learn, and can't change, but to humanity's misfortune, bad guys win about 50% of the time.

Basic Principles of Humanity

“Willfully impeding the delivery of relief supplies, in particular life-saving fuel, is a war crime.”

Yesterday, in response to pressure from the US State Department, Israel’s war cabinet authorized trucks to bring 70,000 liters of fuel into the Gaza Strip daily, the first deliveries of fuel in more than five weeks. According to the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), the minimum amount needed to sustain just the organization’s humanitarian operations is 120,000 liters every day, without regard for other humanitarian needs. Prior to the war, nearly a million liters of fuel entered Gaza each day.

Signym, Biden is the audience: Israel’s Ludicrous Propaganda Wins Over the Only Audience That Counts

World / November 17, 2023
https://www.thenation.com/article/world/israel-gaza-propaganda-biden/

Why make an effort to be credible if you’re going to be uncritically echoed by the White House and Western press?

On November 11, an Arabic-language Twitter account maintained by Israel’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs posted a video purporting to be a selfie by a nurse in al-Shifa hospital in Gaza, a major battlefield in the current conflict that was taken over by the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) a few days later. In the startling video, as bombs went off in the background, the tearful nurse warned Gazans to heed the call of the IDF to flee to the south. She also affirmed many IDF talking points, notably that Hamas had taken over the hospital and were stealing morphine and fuel.

The video gained millions of views—but was also widely mocked by many, particularly Arabs, who questioned its authenticity. For one thing, none of the staff in the hospital knew who this supposed nurse was. For another, she spoke in English with an accent that resembled no known Arab lilt.

As Marc Owen Jones of The Daily Beast observed, “Everything about it smacked of high school theater—from the botched accent that sounded like it was straight out of an Israeli soap opera to the perfectly scripted IDF talking points rolling off her tongue.” Jones also noted “the pristine white lab coat looking like it had just come back from the dry cleaner, the audio track of bombs falling that sounded like samples from a late-’80s Casio keyboard, and the contrived stethoscope-waving you‘d expect from an extra on Grey’s Anatomy.”

Within a day, the tweet of the video was deleted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. But of course, downloaded versions continue to circulate.

Lying and propaganda are endemic to warfare. Public opinion is always as much a battlefield as actual territory. But in the case of Israel’s ongoing war in Gaza—nominally against Hamas but actually devastating to the civilian population of the besieged territory—propaganda has taken a bizarre turn. This is propaganda that barely makes any effort to convince, instead offering ludicrous arguments in implausible forms. To pay attention to Israeli propaganda in recent weeks is like watching a magic trick done by an inept conjurer who constantly lets the audience see the mirrors and wires that are supposed to create optical illusions.

As Hussein Ibish, a resident scholar at the Arab Gulf States Institute notes, “Israel’s propaganda has always been ham-handed and ridiculous, but during this Gaza war, it has been so pathetically bad and jumped the shark so terribly that it’s going to be very difficult to restore any credibility at all with a great many people in the US and Europe.”

A few examples will suffice. On November 5, Israel bombed a car travelling from South Lebanon to Beirut. The IDF told the press that it “struck a vehicle in Lebanese territory that was identified as a suspicious vehicle containing several terrorists.” In fact, as Human Rights Watch later established, the car was civilian, containing a grandmother, a mother, and three young girls. The mother was wounded; the grandmother and girls were killed. Human Rights Watch concluded that this was an “apparent war crime” and “the attack on a vehicle containing only fleeing civilians shows reckless disregard by the Israeli military for its obligation to distinguish between civilian and military objects and a significant failure to take adequate safeguards to prevent civilian deaths.” Israel has promised an investigation, but based on previous experience that is likely to be slow and result only in a tepid admission of error.

On November 13, the IDF released a video of spokesman Daniel Hagari touring Rantisi hospital. Hagari kept calling attention to banal objects with the suggestion that they were evidence the hospital had housed terrorist cell. At one point he pointed to a baby bottle and said, “It’s a baby bottle. It’s a baby bottle in a basement, above a World Health Organization sign.” Then Hagari pointed to a list on a wall and claimed, “This is a guardians’ list, where every terrorist writes his name and every terrorist has his own shift, guarding the people that were here.”

As those fluent in Arabic pointed out, the supposed “guardians list” was nothing more or less than a calendar with the days of the week on it. The IDF blamed the fiasco on a “translation error.”

On November 15, Middle East Monitor reported, “The Israeli army killed an elderly Palestinian after using him in a propaganda campaign promoting its ‘safe corridor’ in Gaza.” The IDF circulated a photo of the 79-year old man, Bashir Hajji, talking to IDF soldiers as proof of their careful shepherding of refugees fleeing the bombardment in the north. This photo was undermined by the fact that an Israeli sniper shot Hajji twice in the back of the head.

Israeli officials have also falsely tried to suggest that images of Palestinian civilians being killed are fabrications and created by “Pallywood” crisis actors (Pallywood being a neologism mixing Palestinian and Hollywood). This claim is not just wrong but deeply conspiratorial—at the level of extremists like Alex Jones, who made similar claims about mass shootings in the United States. It is astonishing for a government to make such claims.

The biggest ongoing propaganda fiasco involves al-Shifa hospital—one that deeply implicates not just the Israeli government but also the Biden administration. On October 13, the IDF released an elaborate drawing purporting to show the “the main headquarters for Hamas’ terrorist activities.” The drawing showed an extensive network of well-lighted tunnels and large rooms that resembled nothing so much as the villain’s lair in a James Bond film.

On Tuesday, National Security Council spokesman John Kirby said, “I can confirm for you that we have information that Hamas, and the Palestinian Islamic Jihad, use some hospitals in the Gaza Strip including Al Shifa, and tunnels underneath them, to conceal and to support their military operations and to hold hostages.”

Israel took control of Al Shifa hospital the next day. What they found there was underwhelming. As The Washington Post noted, on Thursday, the IDF said “that searches had uncovered the body of a captive Israeli woman in a house near the hospital, along with weapons. On Wednesday, the IDF released photographs and video of small caches of weapons it said belonged to Hamas.” That video also showed that the hospital had a box of dates (a well-loved fruit among Arabs) and two copies of the Quran (a book holy to hundreds of millions).

From the Post:
The military added to its case Thursday with a photo and video of a rough cavity that it described as an “operational tunnel shaft.” The Washington Post verified the location of the shaft inside the al-Shifa Hospital complex but could not verify where the opening led or what its purpose might be. Israel has yet to produce findings that corroborate its claims that al-Shifa sits atop a Hamas headquarters and was central to the militant group’s operations in northern Gaza.

The IDF also suggested that “Hamas knew we were coming” and moved the headquarters—hence the absence of evidence for a robust Hamas presence. This is truly the territory of Donald Rumsfeld during the Iraq War, when he famously remarked that “absence of evidence is not evidence of absence” in relation to the nonexistent weapons of mass destruction.

It remains possible that a few Hamas fighters were holed up in a very large hospital with hundreds of patients. But it seems unlikely the hospital had ever been “the main headquarters” of Hamas. The IDF may yet find more evidence of a Hamas presence there; however, the original narrative seems to be a fabulation.

But then the very idea of a Hamas command center is a flight of fantasy. The military wing of Hamas is not a regular army but an insurgent force that weaves in and out of the population, moving “among the people as a fish swims in the sea,” in Mao’s famous phrase. Israel has projected onto a guerrilla army the form of a more conventional force organized by a nation state—a common mistake in counterinsurgency warfare.

Yet Joe Biden seems unfazed by the flimsiness of the evidence provided by Israel. On Wednesday, he said, “You have a circumstance where the first war crime is being committed by Hamas by having their headquarters, their military, hidden under a hospital. And that’s a fact; that’s what’s happened.” The phrase “first war crime” is suggestive, sounding as it does like the complaint of a child caught hitting a sibling arguing over who started it. Under international law, Hamas’s committing a war crime doesn’t give Israel a license to commit other war crimes. Nor does it allow the United States to support war crimes in response to Hamas’s actions.

Asked for evidence of the command center, Biden said, “No, I can’t tell you—I won’t tell you.”

Biden also claimed that Israel was very careful in taking over Al-Shifa Hospital in comparison to its earlier actions. According to the president, “So, this is a different story than I believe was occurring before, an indiscriminate bombing.” Biden’s admission that Israel, with American support, conducted indiscriminate bombing is yet another confession of a war crime.

In the unlikely event that Biden and Netanyahu are ever brought before the Hague for crimes against humanity, Biden has provided ample evidence in his own words.

All of these mistakes should help retire the durable myth of the IDF and Mossad (the Israeli intelligence agency) as omni-competent fighting forces. Indeed, the Hamas attack of October 7, which instigated the current round of the Israel/Palestine conflict, was itself a massive intelligence failure—one that calls into question long-standing policies by multiple governments (including the United States) to sideline the issue of Palestinian statehood.

Israel’s poor propaganda is another indication of Israeli incompetence. Yet all these failures count for little as long as Israel benefits from the soft bigotry of low expectations by its supporters, including the president of the United States.

Joe Biden is clearly willing to back whatever Israel does, including indiscriminate bombing and other war crimes. The American media is also complicit. As HuffPost has documented, CNN has a habit of airing IDF videos with false information (including the calendar fiasco). Then, when the errors are pointed out, these same videos are carefully edited to delete the falsehood when placed online, without an editorial note explaining or acknowledging what was cut. In effect, CNN is the IDF’s partner in propaganda.

But then Israel’s half-baked propaganda isn’t aimed at regular people. The American public is quickly souring on Israel’s war. As Reuters reports, only 32 percent of Americans support Israel in this conflict, down from 41 percent a month ago. The same poll shows 68 percent support for a ceasefire.

Sadly, the fact that the public isn’t buying Israel’s campaign of lies counts for little. Foreign policy is made by elites. Biden and the US Congress are still firmly behind Israel. Even if Joe Biden is the only person on earth who really believes Israel’s propaganda, that is more than enough to make it successful.

Have you ever heard this quote?

"Things fall apart; the center cannot hold; / Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world, / The blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere / The ceremony of innocence is drowned; / The best lack all conviction, while the worst / Are full of passionate intensity."

Biden should act less like "the best" and, instead, display more "passionate intensity".

Israel has killed more children in Gaza than have died in all other conflict zones globally over the last year

Barefoot and weeping, Khaled Joudeh, 9, hurried toward the dozens of bodies wrapped in white burial shrouds, blankets and rugs outside the overcrowded morgue.

“Where’s my mom?” he cried next to a photographer for The New York Times. “I want to see my mom.”

“Where is Khalil?” he continued, barely audible between sobs as he asked for his 12-year-old brother. A morgue worker opened a white shroud, so Khaled could kiss his brother one final time.

Then, he bid farewell to his 8-month-old sister. Another shroud was pulled back, revealing the blood-caked face of a baby, her strawberry-red hair matted down. Khaled broke into fresh sobs as he identified her to the hospital staff. Her name was Misk, Arabic for musk.

“Mama was so happy when she had you,” he whispered, gently touching her forehead, tears streaming down his face onto hers.

She was the joy of his family, relatives later said — after three boys, his parents were desperate for a girl. When she was born, they said, Khaled’s mother delighted in dressing Misk in frilly, colorful dresses, pinning her tiny curls in bright hair clips.

Through his tears, Khaled bid farewell to his mother, father, older brother and sister, their bodies lined up around him. Only Khaled and his younger brother, Tamer, 7, survived what relatives and local journalists said was an airstrike on Oct. 22 that toppled two buildings sheltering their extended family.

A total of 68 members of the Joudeh family were killed that day as they slept in their beds in Deir al Balah, in central Gaza, three of Khaled’s relatives recounted in separate interviews.

Several branches and generations of the Joudehs, a Palestinian family, had been huddling together before the strike, relatives said, including some who had fled northern Gaza, as Israel had ordered residents to do. The Israeli military said it could not address questions about a strike on the family.

In the end, members of the family were buried together, side by side in a long grave, relatives said, showing footage of the burial and sharing a picture of Misk before she was killed.

Gaza, the United Nations warns, has become “a graveyard for thousands of children.”

Determining the precise number of children killed in Gaza — in the midst of a fierce bombing campaign, with hospitals collapsing, children missing, bodies buried under rubble and neighborhoods in ruins — is a Sisyphean task. Health officials in Gaza say that 5,000 Palestinian children have been killed since the Israeli assault began, and possibly hundreds more. Many international officials and experts familiar with the way death tolls are compiled in the territory say the overall numbers are generally reliable.

If the figures are even close to accurate, far more children have been killed in Gaza in the past six weeks than the 2,985 children killed in the world’s major conflict zones combined — across two dozen countries — during all of last year, even with the war in Ukraine, according to U.N. tallies of verified deaths in armed conflict. https://www.securitycouncilreport.org/atf/cf/%7B65BFCF9B-6D27-4E9C-8CD

Oh and hey, as if Lefty Media was reading my mind, The Hill is afraid about that question being asked once the primaries are over too.

The Hill: Democrats fear this one simple question will doom Biden

https://thehill.com/opinion/white-house/4315849-democrats-fear-this-on
e-simple-question-will-doom-biden
/

Quote:

“Biden will flunk the question.”

I was speaking with two senior Democratic operatives last week about the upcoming election and more specifically about the suggestion from David Axelrod — CNN analyst and former senior adviser to President Obama — that President Biden may want to reconsider his reelection bid as former President Trump gets closer and closer to becoming the presumptive Republican nominee.

Axelrod logically voiced his fears after the New York Times and Siena College published polls showing Trump leading Biden in five of six key battleground states. In a social media post, Axelrod wrote, “It’s very late to change horses; a lot will happen in the next year that no one can predict & Biden’s team says his resolve to run is firm.” He then added: “Only @JoeBiden can make this decision. If he continues to run, he will be the nominee of the Democratic Party. What he needs to decide is whether that is wise; whether it’s in HIS best interest or the country’s?”

For daring to voice his honest opinion, Axelrod — as reported in Politico — was referred to as a “prick” by President Biden, who has been known to fire off profanities when upset. Being told to pack it in by a former Obama guy was clearly just the thing to push Biden’s buttons.

Regardless of that spat, the Democratic operatives were not interested in any of it. Nor were they interested in debating Biden’s age nor his cognitive ability.

“I don’t care about any of those things,” one of them said. “They honestly don’t matter in relation to the question. And Biden is going to flunk that question and lose.”

The question these Democratic operatives feared being: “Were you better off four years ago than you are now?”

This is a reverse of arguably the most important question ever asked in a presidential debate. During the final week of the 1980 presidential race between Democratic President Jimmy Carter and GOP nominee Ronald Reagan, the two candidates held their sole debate on October 28.

Reagan used his closing remarks to look into the camera and ask Americans the question — one that became the defining moment of the election: “Are you better off now than you were four years ago?”

He then followed with: “Is it easier for you to go and buy things in the stores than it was four years ago? Is there more or less unemployment in the country than there was four years ago? Is America as respected throughout the world as it was? Do you feel that our security is as safe, that we’re as strong as we were four years ago?”

Now, the reverse of that question is the one Biden should fear most: “Were you better off four years ago than you are now?”

There is no doubt that former President Donald Trump and independent candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. will use variations of those questions to pummel Biden. And with good reason.

Tens of millions of Americans do believe they were much better off four years ago than now. Americans who know mortgage rates were at record lows; gasoline prices were well below three dollars per gallon; inflation was under control; our border was more secure; our major cities were not homeless encampments; crime was dramatically lower; and the world was more at peace.

To add insult to injury for President Biden, while confirming the worry of the Democratic operatives, the Financial Times just ran an article headlined “Only 14% of US voters say Joe Biden has made them better off.” Ouch.

Ultimately, some percentage of voters may care about Biden’s age or ability to govern effectively. But every single voter is concerned with quality-of-life issues that negatively affect them and their families.

Trump and Kennedy pounding on that question for the next several months will prove to be devastating for Biden.

And the fact that RFK, who the Biden* Administration wouldn't even debate is going to be asking Americans that question at least as often as Trump will be once the primaries are over WILL doom the Democratic party after they made the decision to stand with the Roomba and Chief.

To be as blunt as possible, if you are not prospering in America, it is because you are stupid/lazy/crazy/obnoxious, not because of politics. Obviously, a politician won't get your vote while simultaneously telling you the truth: stop acting like you're mentally deranged. Instead, politicians tell voters it is not the voter's fault that the voter wrecked their own life.

In Israel, the politicians will tell the voters to blame the Palestinians for the voter's suffering. Never point out that Israel has millions of prisoners. Instead, blame the prisoners for breaking out of prison. Also, tell voters that God gave the Holy Land to Jews 5,000 years ago, superseding more recent land claims by Palestinians. Politicians know that voters want, with all their might, to believe lies, so keep lying. What is the worst that could happen?

Special note to 6ix and Signym: RFK Junior is a nutjob, so he obviously is appealing to mentally deranged voters. https://www.google.com/search?q=RFK+Junior+is+a+nutjob
