While under lockdown, Beijing forged a special relationship with Moscow and Tehran. This relationship with Russia, with the unwitting assistance of global warming, is helping extend China’s BRI through Arctic shipping lanes. And late last year, we saw the very first summit between China and the Gulf Cooperation Council and hence a deepening of China’s ties with Opec+. All of this may eventually lead to “one world, two systems”.

Everyone was a prophet from Pat Robinson to Donald Trump to Jimmy Carter to Jess Ventura, seems like Joss told scifi stories but others had more accurate warnings. The nature of Doomsday economics is the Cassandra "phenomenon" everyone wants be happy inside the flock, happy to believe the economy is fine. Jim Rogers, Jim Willie, Martin Armstrong all warned but eventually you get Big Tech to shadow ban people and say everything is fine. I don't think anyone truly predicted the Rise of China so quick and the foolish Wars in Eastern Europe or that Putin would still be in power.

Different players, different machine, but then similar players and similar machine but with different names, in the 80s they thought the Soviet Union would last and Japan was an economic machine and a threat, in the 90s some still thought Japan would take the world but then news came of the USSR collapse and a Japanese stock market crash.

Many Americans looked at the stock market going to Tokyo, Sony, Toyota they expected that Japan would be their economic, banker and political overlord

Well... Joss is no more a prophet than Mike Judge was with Idiocracy.

I don't actually believe in prophets, but I do have respect for people who make works of art that end up being what happens in the future, and maybe one day I will be adding Whedon's Firefly to that list along with Judge's Idiocracy, Orwell's 1984 and Huxley's Brave New World.

... Even if the backdrop to his work was mostly otherwise derivative of other great Sci-Fi that came before him.

Growing up in a Republic was nice... Shame we couldn't keep it.
