I like your solstice celebration list.

How about celebrating May day ?
How about celebrating mid-summer ?

We celebrate Memphis in May. Which is a fairly regional festival, but it’s all kinds of fun. Lots of Memphis Barbeque and free concerts and beer. It’s pretty much a month long thing, and if you’re interested you better book your hotel in advance, because Memphis’ population about triples.

Also we do Burn’s Night, but that’s also in winter, generally.

Nothing is more unpredictable than the mob, nothing more obscure than public opinion, nothing more deceptive than the whole political system.

6-string,

Change is accelerating and there's probably not too much we can do about it.

But when it comes to change, I think about my dad (now deceased). He was born in Poland and lived on a farm with a dirt-floor house, a fireplace for heat and light, having horses pull the plows and eating potatoes and yogurt as a staple diet. After WWII he couldn't go back (for political reasons he was a 'persona non grata' with the communist government), was made unwelcome in England and eventually ended up in the US. In his lifetime he learned four new languages courtesy of the countries he found himself in - including Russian. In his lifetime he went from a simple Polish farm life to life in the US and living in English, with electricity, computers, the atom bomb and astronauts.

If he could manage, so can we.

As an atheist and a secular humanist, I do not -- nor have I in about a quarter-century -- celebrate Christmas.

I do, however, eat entirely too much on December 25, buy and (hopefully) recieve gifts, etc.

We call it Capitalist-mas.

An elementary school in New York decided to remove "Jingle Bells" from its curriculum because of potential concerns about the song's potential to be linked to Blackface or be "controversial or offensive."
