How about solving some REAL problems instead of trying to fix problems that aren't there?

REAL problems:

Conservative senators and representatives voted to throw out the results from multiple states, a move that would disenfranchise millions of Americans who cast lawful ballots under valid state election laws. Republicans’ new rule appears to be that Congress may indeed regulate federal elections but only when it wants to either suppress or nullify votes.

GOP state attorneys general, too, are eager to repeal state election results that they dislike. Many of the attorneys general who signed on to Wednesday’s letter also supported Texas’ bogus attempt to set aside the 2020 results. (They are also members of the Republican Attorneys General Association, the cancerous hate group that actively fomented insurrection on Jan. 6.) These partisans’ farcical lawsuit asked the Supreme Court to throw out every vote in four states won by Joe Biden, then direct each state’s legislature to declare Donald Trump the winner. Back then, they claimed that the Supreme Court, as in nine unelected justices, hold the authority to nullify millions of votes cast pursuant to valid election laws. But now they argue that democratically elected lawmakers in Congress have no power to exercise their constitutional prerogative to create uniform standards for federal races.

What went right in the 2020 election

By Shira Ovide

A lot went wrong after the 2020 election in the United States. But here’s one thing that went right during it: A risk everyone worried about — foreign election interference — mostly failed.

That showed what is possible when government officials and technology companies are laser focused on a problem, effectively coordinate and learn from their past mistakes.

But the false narrative that the election was stolen, culminating in a mob attack on the U.S. Capitol, also pointed to the limits of those efforts. The Russians or the Chinese didn’t delegitimize our election. We did it to ourselves.

Today, I want to explore the glass half-full view. The largely averted threat of foreign election meddling was a success that shouldn’t be overlooked.

What went wrong the last time

Let me first remind you what happened around the 2016 election. Russian hackers pilfered documents from the Democratic National Committee and tried to muck around with state election infrastructure. Digital propagandists backed by the Russian government also fanned information on Facebook, Instagram, YouTube and elsewhere that sought to erode people’s faith in voting or inflame social divisions.

Powerful American institutions — notably local, state and federal government officials as well as large internet companies — were slow to tackle the problem or had initially dismissed it. The effect of the hacking and trolling wasn’t clear, but the worry was that foreign governments would regularly seek to disrupt U.S. elections and that it would contribute to Americans’ lack of trust in our systems and with one another.

What happened in 2020

Some foreign governments, including Russia and Iran, tried to disrupt our elections again, but it mostly didn’t work. The same U.S. institutions and digital defenses that failed four years earlier largely held strong this time.

“The progress that was made between 2016 and 2020 was remarkable,” said Camille François, chief innovation officer at Graphika, a firm that analyzes manipulation of social networks.

What changed in government and tech

One major shift after 2016 was that federal government officials and the state and local officials who run elections overcame initial mistrust to collaborate more effectively on voting threats. Matt Masterson, who until recently was a senior adviser on election security for the Department of Homeland Security, said coordination was the biggest change that helped shore up digital defenses in election management systems.

“This is as good as the federal government has worked on any issue in my experience,” Masterson said.

He also credited efforts in states, notably Georgia, that created paper trails of ballots that could be audited quickly and provide more visibility into the vote counting to help increase people’s trust in the election process.

The tech companies, François said, shifted to acknowledge their blind spots. For the first time, online powers including Facebook wrote policies specifically tackling foreign government meddling and put people in charge of stopping it. They also made it harder for foreign trolls to use some of their 2016 tactics, such as buying online advertisements to circulate divisive messages widely.

Social media companies also started to publicly announce when they found campaigns by foreign governments that were used to mislead people online. François said that helped researchers and journalists better assess the techniques of foreign propagandists — and the shared knowledge helped internet companies stop trolling campaigns before they had a big impact.

Cooperation improved between government and tech companies, too. There were regular meetings between major internet companies and the federal officials responsible for election protection to share information. And internet companies began to tell the public when the U.S. government tipped them off about foreign interference on their websites.

Both François and Masterson said that an “aha” moment was the response to Iran’s effort to intimidate voters during the fall. National security officials said then that Iran had obtained some Americans’ voter-registration data, most of which was publicly available, to send deceptive messages that threatened voters.

Because they were ready for threats like this, officials were able to make connections between voter intimidation in multiple states, identify the source of the menacing messages, inform election officials across the country and tell voters what was happening — all in about a day.

“That couldn’t have happened in 2016, and it likely couldn’t have happened in 2018,” Masterson said. “That was what we had all trained for.”

What’s next

While internet companies and the U.S. government caught up to the kinds of interference they faced in 2016, they failed at confronting the even trickier challenge of a campaign led by the president himself to cast doubt on the election process despite no substantial evidence. And foreign cyber attacks and online propaganda efforts certainly haven’t stopped.

But it could have been much worse. A lot went right in the election because powerful institutions took the risk of foreign hacking and trolling seriously and rose to the challenge. That’s a hopeful lesson for future elections, the pandemic and other crises.

SECONDRATE: REAL problems:

Conservative senators and representatives voted to throw out the results from multiple states, a move that would disenfranchise millions of Americans who cast lawful ballots under valid state election laws.

The REAL real problem?

The way mail in ballots were handled.

There were signed affidavits attesting to boxes of unfolded, otherwise blank, identically-marked (for Biden) ballots being fed into the ballot-counting machine. Strange pauses in the counting, then weird jumps in the Biden tally.

There was no way to validate the votes because outer envelopes with signatures were stripped and thrown out, so you couldn't even match the number of envelopes with the number of ballots. Or ballots were accepted without even attempting to verify the signatures. Or ballots came in bundles, indicative of ballot harvesting.

The people who oversaw these multiple clusterfucks were mostly Dems, not Repubs. We can blame their incompetence (at best) or fraud (at worst) for calling into question valid votes from legitimate voters.

The rest of your post is just so much blah blah blah. Links, or it hasn't happened.

I haven't been paying attention enough.

Is HR 1 the same bill as the Covid Rescue bill?

I guess the Rescue plan has less than 10% of it's funding for actual Covid - related spending.

Today I heard that GOP Senators tried to pass amendments to NOT pay $1,400 Stimulus payments to Prisoners (in prison), and also same for Illegal Aliens.
Dems blocked boith - ALL Senate Dems.

HR 1 is not the same as the "Covid" bill.

Anything in the "Covid" bill is being pushed under the budget so it can pass with only 50 votes plus the Harris tie-breaker, and has to be directly related to the 2021 budget or can be stripped out (see: the $15 minimum wage increase).

HR 1 will not become law. It needs to 60 votes in the Senate to pass, which it will not receive.

Prepare to watch the Legacy Media try to destroy the GOP by only stating the good things in the bill that Republicans shot down while downplaying or completely omitting all the terrible things in that bill.

Senator Jeff Merkley of Oregon, the principal sponsor of H.R. 1’s Senate analogue, has been urging his colleagues to consider ending the filibuster for these bills alone, even if they are unwilling to end it for all legislation.

HR1 is the Democrats’ Only Chance to Stop the GOP Assault on Voting Rights

The most explosive battle in decades over access to the voting booth will reach a new crescendo this week, as Republican-controlled states advance an array of measures to restrict the ballot, and the U.S. House of Representatives votes on the federal legislation that represents Democrats’ best chance to stop them.

It’s no exaggeration to say that future Americans could view the resolution of this struggle as a turning point in the history of U.S. democracy. The outcome could not only shape the balance of power between the parties, but determine whether that democracy grows more inclusive or exclusionary. To many civil-rights advocates and democracy scholars I’ve spoken with, this new wave of state-level bills constitutes the greatest assault on Americans’ right to vote since the Jim Crow era’s barriers to the ballot.

So, are these LEGITIMATE restrictions?

After all, we DO restrict voting! You must be a citizen, and over a certain age.

I would add that you must be able to provide proof of both your identity AND your citizenship, and follow whatever procedures are required to validate absentee or mail-in ballots.

Seems pretty brain-dead simple to me!

Now, on IT'S part, the state/county must provide secure and validate-able voting procedures, and follow them diligently in order to ensure that legitimate ballots aren't diluted with illegitimate ones.

Also pretty brain-dead simple!

In addition, I would require that any reforms be adopted at least a year (hopefully more) before any major election in order to help people through the registration and identity process. There should be financial assistance to make procuring the necessary papers (eg birth certificates) cost-free, and hotlines, online, and in-person help for those who are elderly or disabled to make it through the process.

ANALYSIS OF GEORGIA'S ELECTION REFORM BILL

Quote:

Georgia’s state Senate passed a comprehensive election reform bill on Monday that would, among multiple provisions, repeal no-excuse absentee voting and limit mail-in ballots to certain criteria.

The Republican-backed bill passed with a vote of 29-20. It now goes to the House Elections Integrity Committee where it is expected to be passed in the next several weeks. The bill must pass by March 31 to have a chance of becoming law by the end of the 2021 legislative session in Georgia, subject to Gov. Brian Kemp’s decision whether to sign or veto it.

The bill, SB 241 (pdf), contains sweeping changes to the Georgia Code related to elections and voting. Under the proposed legislation, those who are eligible to vote by mail will be limited to people who are physically disabled; or are over 65 years old; are eligible as a military or overseas voter; have a religious holiday around election day; work in elections; or somehow need to be outside their voting precinct during the early voting period and election day.

The bill would also eliminate no-excuse absentee voting, something that has been allowed in Georgia since 2005.

Among other provisions, the bill would require voter identification to request an absentee ballot. In addition, Georgia would be required to participate in a nongovernmental multi-state voter registration system to cross-check the eligibility of voters. The state’s current participation is voluntary. The bill also clarifies a law about mobile voting units, saying that these units be used only to replace current brick-and-mortar voting facilities, and not supplement them.

Under the bill, a telephone hotline would be set up to receive complaints and reports regarding voter intimidation and election fraud, which would be reviewed by the Attorney General within three days. The state Republican caucus said the hotline would help build trust in the election system since the host of the hotline, the Attorney General, is separate from the office running the election, the Secretary of State’s office.

“We’ve spent several hundred hours doing research and policy development around election integrity, addressing the lack of faith and integrity in our current election systems as expressed by many of our citizens,” the Georgia Senate Republican Caucus said in a statement. “We encourage all citizens to practice their civic duty, and in return, it is our responsibility to ensure public confidence and trust in the system, ensuring our rights are protected. SB 241 codifies open and honest reformation to a multitude of areas regarding election oversight, voting processes, and transparency.”

Shortly prior to the vote on the bill, Georgia Republicans issued a statement saying, “We want every person to vote. We want elections to be secure. We are open to solutions, but Georgia will not be vulnerable to voter fraud.” The statement presumably refers to the 2020 presidential election, which saw numerous allegations of voting irregularities and allegations of election fraud.

Lt. Gov. Geoff Duncan, Georgia’s No. 2 Republican, chose not to preside over the debate of the bill. He told the The Atlanta Journal-Constitution that he “refuses to be the presiding officer for a measure he so adamantly opposes,” according to the outlet.

John Albers, Kay Kirkpatrick and Brian Strickland, were the only Republican state senators who did not co-sponsor the bill. All three also chose to be excused from the vote. Another Republican, Chuck Hufstetler, was also excused from the vote.

Republican Majority Leader Mike Dugan, the main sponsor of the bill, said that amid the CCP (Chinese Communist Party) virus pandemic in the last election cycle, a surge in absentee ballots posed a burden on county election offices, reported The Associated Press.

“The increasing burden on local election offices and the increased cost to each of our counties has risen significantly,” Dugan said, according to the news wire service. “In recent years the number of mail-in absentee ballots has increased to the point where counties are in essence running three elections simultaneously.” He added that an estimated 2.7 million Georgians would still be eligible to vote absentee under the criteria outlined in the bill.

Last week, the House passed its own version of an election reform bill, HB 531, which has many overlaps with SB 241. However, the House bill would still allow no-excuse absentee voting.

A number of other voting-related bills passed on Monday in the Georgia senate.

SB 62, which passed by a vote of 37-15, would require that all election ballots to contain additional security elements, as well as the name and designation of the voting precinct.

SB 202, which passed by a vote of 32-20, would prohibit anyone other than the Secretary of State or local elections officials from sending absentee ballot applications to voters who have requested an absentee ballot.

SB 74, which passed by a vote of 36-18, would expand the areas where poll watchers have access in the tabulation centers, such that they can be in any areas where ballots and election results are received and processed.

SB 72, which passed by a vote of 48-5, would require county registrars to review updated records of deaths in the county every month, and use the information to update voter registration records.

Seems pretty brain-dead simple to me!

Also pretty brain-dead simple!

Simple: stop Democrats from voting. Once passed, these laws will become Federal Court cases. The Republican legislators who voted for the laws will have their words as evidence that stopping Democrats was their intention. This will end with years of litigation in hundreds of cases. HR-1 will override all these cases, but HR-1 will itself be litigated for years, going all the way to the Supreme Court, much the same as Obamacare went to the Supreme Court.

Republicans Are Wasting Their Time With Vote Suppression Bills

Kevin Drum, March 9, 2021 – 10:34 am

Republicans have introduced a huge raft of bills in red states that would restrict voting in federal elections. And make no mistake: these bills are partisan cruise missiles aimed solely at reducing the Democratic vote. They are loathsome.

But they are also pretty conventional. For the most part, they include all the old-school Republican favorites like restrictions on Sunday voting, photo ID laws, and so forth. These are all things Republicans have been promoting for years, and none of them have turned out to be all that effective. In some cases this is because they simply don't affect very many votes, while in others it's because they spur a backlash that prompts Democratic-leaning voters to turn out in higher numbers.

The big new addition to this arsenal is an attack on mail voting. Republicans are apparently convinced that this cost them the 2020 election, but it turns out these bills are just more of the same old ineffectual rubbish. Ian Millhiser describes a natural study of Texas voters:

Texas is one of a handful of states that discriminate on the basis of age when determining who may vote absentee: Voters over the age of 65 are allowed to request an absentee ballot, but most voters under that age are required to vote in person. The researchers at Stanford’s Democracy and Polarization Lab compared turnout rates among 65-year-olds in Texas’s 2020 elections — that is, among voters who were eligible to vote absentee — to the turnout rates among 64-year-olds who mostly could not vote by mail.

They found that “65-year-olds in Texas turned out in 2020 at almost exactly the same rate as 64-year-olds, even though roughly 18% of 65-year-olds voted absentee while only 3% of 64-year-olds voted absentee.”

The end result was that 65-year-olds were more Democratic than 64-year-olds by 0.2 percentage points, a difference too small to even be meaningful.

Other studies have shown the same thing: All of these anti-mail measures have only a very tiny effect. It may make Republicans feel good to demonstrate a whirlwind of activity that Fox News is happy to spin as "protecting against fraudulent votes," but in the end it doesn't really buy them much.

On a moral plane, this does nothing to excuse what they're doing. But on a practical plane, it means they're mostly wasting their time.

The Trumptards didn't give a goddamn about "these measures meant to ensure the integrity of the vote" until Trump lost, then the Trumptards went berserk, with hundreds of bills that they imagine will keep Trump from ever losing again in exactly the same way. Bring it on, moron Trumptards! Please nominate Trump in 2024! If he runs, HR-1 requires him to reveal his income tax returns in Title X—Presidential and Vice Presidential Tax Transparency. If he won't, the IRS will do it without Trump's permission and make the results public. Too bad, Trumptards, if your man is a tax cheat.

Learn to love those two, 6ix, because Fatso can't get reelected after stealing $billions in tax money. Trump's lawyers will be in a life and death struggle to keep him from going bankrupt because of unpaid tax obligations. I hope his lawyers lose the contest before he dies so Fatso can watch all his money be taken away.

They're going to need 10 Republicans to sign off on it, so it's never going to happen. I'd suggest that Second stop talking about it as if it's already passed.

P.S. HR-1 is 791 pages of bullshit. Nearly 200 pages more than the "Covid" bill.

Happy reading.

Donald Trump (Unironically) Requests a Mail-In Ballot Ahead of Palm Beach Municipal Election
March 10, 2021 9:55 AM

Ever since Nov. 3, and in fact for many months before Election Day, Donald Trump railed on and on about the existential danger to democracy that mail-in voting presented. It was, of course, all self-serving hooey. Trump voted (for himself) in Florida by mail in the March 2020 presidential primary and then again in an August 2020 primary, his family routinely votes by mail, and a quarter of all American ballots cast in the 2016 election — won by Trump — were cast via the post. But Trump’s voting lies got bigger and bolder and now a significant portion of the Republican Party doesn’t trust the 2020 election result and are using this concocted suspicion to make it harder to vote in Republican-controlled states across the country. Their biggest target? Mail-in voting.

Wow. Talk about falsifying history.

He requested an Absentee ballot. MUCH different than EVERYBODY receiving unsolicited mail-in ballots like we had in EVERY key state in the 2020 fake election.

That being said, Absentee ballots have become a steaming pile of bullshit in many states, with far too many reasons allowed to get one.

If you're not in the military serving overseas, dying on a hospital bed and hooked up to equipment that you need in order to survive or dying at home in hospice and a trip to the voting booth would kill you, there should be no Absentee ballots either. PERIOD.

Once again, you're blaming Pre-Politics Citizen Trump for using the existing system. It was more convenient for him in 2010 to have his staff request an Absentee ballot than it was to go down to the poll and vote in person.

Was he an asshole for doing it? Sure. Just like all the other rich assholes that have ever done it.

But it is in NO WAY a hypocrisy, or a legitimate argument for unsolicited mail-in fraud ballots.

These are two entirely separate issues, and I'm not going to let you muddy the waters by pretending that they aren't.

For now, state political parties control the voting process to their own advantage. No other democratic country allows this. Voting in national elections should be regulated at the national level, just as the Constitution suggests.

Congress should set the rules for registration and voting and they should be the same for every state. This is so obvious that it barely even needs to be defended.

HR1 would do this.

Every county in Texas has a different voting system. There is some overlap in the systems used in different counties because the clerk in one county might ask how they run elections in the four adjacent counties, but it is very nonuniform in different places and in some counties pretty damn close to chaos. I hope others states have more sensible systems, but the recounts and court cases in 2020 show that there is far too much flexibility in how each county or city can run their little piece of a national election.

Once in while, Congress tries to regulate this mess, making the process a little more uniform from place to place: https://www.law.cornell.edu/constitution-conan/article-1/section-4/cla

Subtitle F
—Promoting Accuracy, Integrity, And Security Through Voter-Verified
Permanent Paper Ballot
SEC. 1501. SHORT TITLE.
This subtitle may be cited as the “Voter Confidence and Increased Accessibility Act of 2021”.
SEC. 1502. PAPER BALLOT AND MANUAL COUNTING REQUIREMENTS.
(a) In General.—Section 301(a)(2) of the Help America Vote Act of 2002 (52 U.S.C. 21081(a)(2)) is amended to read as follows:
“(2) Paper ballot requirement.—
“(A) VOTER-VERIFIED PAPER BALLOTS.—
“(i) PAPER BALLOT REQUIREMENT.—_(I) The voting system shall require the use of an individual, durable, voter-verified paper ballot of the voter’s vote that shall be marked and made available for inspection and verification by the voter before the voter’s vote is cast and counted, and which shall be counted by hand or read by an optical character recognition device or other counting device. For purposes of this subclause, the term ‘individual, durable, voter-verified paper ballot’ means a paper ballot marked by the voter by hand or a paper ballot marked through the use of a nontabulating ballot marking device or system, so long as the voter shall have the option to mark his or her ballot by hand.
“(II) The voting system shall provide the voter with an opportunity to correct any error on the paper ballot before the permanent voter-verified paper ballot is preserved in accordance with clause (ii).
“(Ill) The voting system shall not preserve the voter-verified paper ballots in any manner that makes it possible, at any time after the ballot has been cast, to associate a voter with the record of the voter’s vote without the voter’s consent.
“(ii) PRESERVATION AS OFFICIAL RECORD.—The individual, durable, voter-verified paper ballot used in accordance with clause (i) shall constitute the official ballot and shall be preserved and used as the official ballot for purposes of any recount or audit conducted with respect to any election for Federal office in which the voting system is used.

HR-1 mentions reports 454 times. The first time is Annual reports on voter registration statistics. Is a "Mitofsky Report", or the equivalent, in there? Maybe. I will let you look for it. But if a Mitofsky Report is not specifically mentioned by name, Congress can always request a special report "for validation".

What does that have to do with registering minors?
Quote:

PART 10—VOTER REGISTRATION OF MINORS 4SEC. 1094.
ACCEPTANCE OF VOTER REGISTRATION APPLICATIONS FROM INDIVIDUALS UNDER 18 YEARS OF AGE.

(1) IN GENERAL.— A State may not refuse to accept or process an individual’s application to register to vote in elections for Federal office on the grounds that the individual is under 18 years of age at the time the individual submits the application, so long as the individual is at least 16 years of age at such time.
(2) NO EFFECT ON STATE VOTING AGE REQUIREMENTS.— Nothing in paragraph (1) may be construed to require a State to permit an individual who is under 18 years of age at the time of an election for Federal office to vote in the election.

So, minors 16 and over are allowed to REGISTER but not to VOTE. What a mess THAT could make of the voting process, adding one more area of complexity where it doesn't need to exist.

That's how I read it. It's one more step to create loopholes in who may register, and who may vote.

In Texas, the zip codes with the higher percent registered voters get better services. Once the people are registered voters, even if they don't vote in every election, they get preferential treatment from Texas government. If they are registered before eligibility to vote, they are more likely to start voting when they are old enough. By the way, the Republican Party would very much prefer that only the old, rich and white males get registered because white women tend not to be Trumptards as often as white men.

Sigs debunks this nonsense in the post right after this lie.

What does that have to do with registering MINORS in the House bill?

It has everything to do with why Trumptards would be opposed to HR-1. They do NOT want to be pressured to provide more services to zip codes with more youngsters, which just so happen to be the zip codes with a majority of non-whites. And Trumptards sure as hell don't want non-whites to vote starting at 18 years old. Getting them registered before 18 would encourage them to vote at 18.

These sort of stories really make Trumptards crazy :

More than two-thirds of Texans under age 19 are non-white, according to new census figures.

These 2 facts are horrific for Libtard Democraps, wonderful for Trump supporters, since record numbers of non-whites were voting for and supporting Trump, as well as all of the down-ticket First-term Congressmen (all of who were non-whites or minorities) and Congresswomen.

So, SECONDRATE has bascially admitted that much of HR1 is a partisan Dem effort to change the voting demographic so that Republicans will never be voted into office again.

It's not about "reform".

Yep, I noticed that, too. Thanks for admitting that, SECONDRATE.

The quantity of old, white Trumptards is shrinking while the quantity of young, non-white Libtards is growing. That is why the Republican Party is opposed to HR-1. If the GOP had a strategy to win young, non-white voters, the GOP would NOT be opposed to HR-1. But the GOP doesn't have such a strategy, which is why the GOP partisans hate HR-1.

Too bad for that racist theory that EVERY house seat that Democrats lost in 2020 were to minority and female Republicans.

It's true. Look it up. I'll wait.

There are thousands of blacks crazier than Clarence Thomas, Ben Carson, Tamara Bonzanto, Michael Kubayanda. The GOP maintains a list of insane people suitable for office if enough advertising money is spent to make them look sane. But 6ix, Trumptards stay crazy even when they win.

Democrats don't do shit for minority Citizens. The real "Woke" going on in this country is the minorities figuring that out for themselves.

All that Democrats are doing by making Race take the spotlight on every issue is shining a light on their own racism and how little they think about the willpower, drive and ability of anybody who isn't white.

It's insulting.

I will insult you and your kind some more: Sad watching the fat man blundering through his Presidency. Sad watching 75,000,000 Trumptards stumble through life.

From looking closely for decades at the details of Trumptards' lives flowing slowly (or in some cases very fast) downhill, you Trumptards have no idea what you are doing. It's one random thing after another and then you die never understanding what you did wrong.

It is no surprise Trumptards are on the lower rungs of the economic ladder. No surprise that your childhoods were troubled followed by troubled adulthood, marriages and divorces, followed by ill health and early death. No surprise you have substance addictions, whether food, alcohol, tobacco or drugs. No surprise you get fired or go bankrupt. And certainly no surprise when Trumptards vote for Trump, the biggest dumbest American. It would be completely out of character if you didn't vote for him. The Democrat Party is steadily losing members to that unaffiliated group called "indepdendents". (as, btw, is the Republican Party.)

Is there some important reason why Republicans don't want people to vote? There is. The GOP has introduced hundreds of bills in the state legislatures in the last 3 months to reduce the number of

Quote:

that the election was one of the most secure in American history. The response to this assurance has become that it doesn’t matter because voters no longer trust the elections system—an answer advanced by people who are aware that they are lying. On Tuesday, Mike Pence—who could have lost his life on Jan. 6 due to false claims of a stolen election—joined the “people are saying” chorus with an op-ed frothing up the Big Lie that the 2020 contest was rife with dubious practices. Pence writes: “After an election marked by significant voting irregularities and numerous instances of officials setting aside state election law, I share the concerns of millions of Americans about the integrity of the 2020 election.” Ignoring the fact that his own running mate actually seeded, watered, and fertilized the myth of a stolen election, Pence expressed sober dismay at the fact that “polling shows that large numbers of Democrats did not trust the outcome of the 2016 election and that large numbers of Republicans still do not trust the outcome of the 2020 election.” Cause, meet effect. You guys should hang out.

Pence’s ostensible goal in penning this mess wasn’t to encourage more election truthers to storm the Capitol but to target H.R. 1, the sweeping voting rights bill that passed in the House of Representatives on Thursday. H.R. 1 provides for, among many other things, same-day and automatic voter registration, restoring the franchise to people with criminal records, and an expansion of early voting, voting by mail, and absentee drop boxes. Many states passed these reforms before COVID-19; others adopted them because of the pandemic. Now that the country has held one presidential election with widespread mail voting—leading to historically high participation without any demonstrable increase in fraudulent voting—Democrats want to make the option permanent. The nearly 800-page package also includes many large-scale anti-corruption measures, including the mandatory release of presidential tax returns, regulation of inaugural committees and campaign coordination with foreign interests, an end to partisan gerrymandering for congressional districts, and more robust regulations of campaign finance and dark money.

H.R. 1 passed the House in 2019 but was never taken up in the Senate under Mitch McConnell. In 2021 under Chuck Schumer, the companion Senate bill, S 1, will still likely be stymied, this time by the continued existence of the filibuster. But the real story here is the frantic blowback to the legislation from the selfsame groups that would be regulated or undermined by sweeping democracy reform. That’s why conservative dark money groups like the American Action Network and the American Principles Project were out on the ramparts last week, pushing the same false claims that Mike Pence is peddling. Dark money doesn’t want dark money to be regulated or seen, but since disclosure laws tend to poll well, Pence has framed H.R. 1’s restriction on dark money as part of “the radical left’s cancel culture crusade.”

90,000 Ballots in Largest Nevada County Sent to Wrong Addresses, Bounced Back: Report
By Petr Svab
March 10, 2021 Updated: March 10, 2021

More than 90,000 ballots mailed to registered voters in Nevada’s largest county were returned undeliverable, according to an analysis of the election data by a conservative legal group.

So, OOC, how were these envelopes "bounced back" as "undeliverable"? Was it because no such address existed?

Or did it depend on the honesty of the recipient, who dutifully noted to the mail carrier that no such person lived there, and were returned?

Because if it depended on the honesty of the recipient, it would be far too easy for someone to say "Oh, hey! A Ballot that I get to use!". And since NOBODY was validating IDs, anyone could use one.

Quote:

Clark County, which includes the Las Vegas metro area, made the extraordinary move to mail ballots to all the nearly 1.3 million active voters in the county instead of just those who requested them. The county justified the move as helping people vote remotely during the COVID-19 pandemic.

More than 450,000 voters cast their votes through the mail-in ballots. But more than 92,000 ballots were returned by the postal service as undeliverable, according to the Public Interest Legal Foundation’s (PILF) March 10 research brief (pdf).

The number is based on data provided in February by Clark County Voter Registrar Joe Gloria, the brief says. The Clark County Election Office didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment.

“Mass-mail balloting is a step backward for American elections. There are millions of voter registration records with unreliable ‘active’ address information that will ultimately send ballots to the wrong place in a mail election,” PILF President J. Christian Adams said in the brief.

Prior to the election, PILF criticized such mass ballot mailings in states that hadn’t had such systems already in place.

The entire state of Nevada reported only 5,863 mail ballots returned undeliverable in the 2012, 2014, 2016, and 2018 General Elections combined, the brief says, referring to the U.S. Election Assistance Commission surveys.

Adams also took aim at the H.R. 1 election reform bill that was recently passed by the Democrat-controlled House of Representatives.

The nearly 800-page bill would largely shift power over elections to the federal government. It would discard state voter ID laws, allow for same-day voter registration, ban witness signature requirements for mail-in ballots, and require that mail-in ballots can arrive as late as 10 days after election day (as long as it is post stamped by election day).

But the DNC, and SECONDRATE, are for all of these because they allow massive fraud. And the DNC, and SECONDRATE, are liars.

Quote:

It would also make it a federal crime to “communicate or cause to be communicated” information that is knowingly false and designed to discourage voting and require a plethora of other measures.

Conservatives have made it their priority to oppose the bill.

“H.R. 1 does more harm than good for the American people and will leave them at a constant disadvantage to correct election system errors which ultimately impact their abilities to vote in a timely manner,” Adams said.

The bill “basically codifies everything that was irregular or outright wrong or the opportunities for fraud during last year’s election and makes it the law of the land,” Indiana Attorney General Todd Rokita recently told Breitbart News.

Quote:
