Biden released a joint ad for Democratic Senate candidates Jon Ossoff and Raphael Warnock in the Georgia runoff election, arguing that he needs a Senate majority to pass a better COVID-19 relief package after the crappy one that is struggling to move through Congress.

“Georgia, I know things are tough right now. But I want you to know, help is on the way,” Biden says in the 60-second direct-to-camera ad.

“My administration is preparing to beat COVID-19 and get economic relief to the American people," said Biden, who added that he was prepared to sign another, and more generous, relief package on his first day in office.

"Let me be clear, I need Raphael Warnock and Jon Ossoff in the United States Senate to get this done,” Biden said.

Congress is nearing a $900 billion COVID-19 relief bill, but lawmakers hope it will be signed into law by President Trump as part of a larger spending package. Congress hopes to complete work on the bill and send it to Trump before Christmas.

Biden has supported the package, but described it as a downpayment, saying Congress should take additional steps.

The Senate Majority Leader said that the lack of stimulus payments has become a big issue in the runoffs:

“Kelly and David are getting hammered” on the issue, he said, according to a source who heard his remarks, a reference to incumbent GOP Sens. Kelly Loeffler and David Perdue, who are both facing off against Democratic challengers.

True, McConnell didn’t explicitly say that this was the direct cause of the sudden new movement toward a deal. But, as Politico’s Jake Sherman reported, McConnell “overtly linked” the emerging agreement to the political needs of Georgia’s two senators.

The likelihood that this played a key role in moving Republicans also underscores how unlikely they are to help the economy and the country next year.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2020/12/16/mitch-mcconnell-giv
es-away-game-kelly-david-are-getting-hammered
/

Republicans appear willing to make a deal because they fear that complete stonewalling will hurt them in the Georgia Senate runoffs. But they are determined to keep the deal under a trillion dollars, hence the reported $900 billion price tag.

That trillion-dollar cap, however, makes no sense. The amount we spend on emergency relief should be determined by how much aid is needed, not by the sense that $1 trillion is a scary number.

For affordability isn’t a real issue right now. The U.S. government borrowed more than $3 trillion in the 2020 fiscal year; investors were happy to lend it that money, at remarkably low interest rates. In fact, the real interest rate on U.S. debt — the rate adjusted for inflation — has lately been consistently negative, which means that the additional debt won’t even create a major future burden.

And even economists who worry about deficits normally agree that it’s appropriate to run big deficits in the face of national emergencies. If a pandemic that is still keeping around 10 million workers unemployed isn’t an emergency, I don’t know what is.

Georgia Senators “Kelly and David” have indeed been getting hammered on this issue. Their Democratic opponents, Raphael Warnock and Jon Ossoff, have run numerous ads hitting Republicans over the failure to pass more economic assistance.

GOP Senators are holding a relief deal hostage in order to kneecap the Fed—and the Biden administration—in a crisis.

Republicans, led by Sen. Pat Toomey of Pennsylvania, have launched a last-minute bid to permanently shut down some of the credit facilities that the central bank launched this spring in response to the pandemic—specifically, ones that allowed it to buy corporate bonds, and lend to state and local governments as well as midsized companies. Democrats—including President-elect Joe Biden’s team— have cried foul, accusing the GOP of attempting to sabotage the incoming administration with a rash demand that would permanently change the Fed’s crisis-response powers.

Republicans are trying to take away the Fed’s fire extinguisher just as Biden is getting ready to take office, which will make it harder to respond effectively if the economy bursts into flames again (that probably won’t happen, but you never know!).

Republicans are trying to permanently revoke crisis-fighting tools that the Fed had at its disposal before the CARES Act was ever enacted. Republicans want to cut off that ability, and they’ve introduced sweeping language to do so. It would be a major, and extremely hasty, revision of the emergency lending laws Congress painstakingly hashed out when it negotiated the Dodd-Frank Act after the Great Recession. To rewrite the law like that on the fly seems pretty disturbing.

GOP senator blocks bill for $1,200 stimulus checks for second time on Friday — this time when it was offered by Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.). Sanders said it was “comical that suddenly our Republican friends once again discover that we have a deficit.”

Senate Minority Leader Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) aligned himself with Sanders on Friday. “The quickest way to get money into the pockets of the American people is to send some of their tax dollars right back where they came from. So let's step up the plate. ... I support Senator Sanders's request fully and hope the Senate will consent,” Schumer said.

Speaking of tax dollars...

If they ever do get around to sending out a 2nd round of stimulus checks, they should immediately be automatically applied to anyone's 2020 taxes due in April if they were stupid enough to defer their taxes.

P.S. Trump didn't cause that problem. Any job I've ever worked allows you to defer all of your taxes simply by claiming a bunch of allowances on your W4 form, while unemployment (at least in the 3 states I've lived in) just straight up allows you to not put any unemployment money toward your taxes (though they do warn you not to do so).

P.P.S. I'm preempting any know it alls like Cap'n who are going to say that putting a false number of dependents on your W4 is illegal. (Because we've argued about this before, and he's stupid and will have no doubt forgotten that I won that argument).

It's not illegal. But not paying your taxes in full and on time will lead to fines and penalties and can snowball into a much worse situation. This is ill-advised for most people since they suck with money.

All Trump did was let everyone know en-masse that this was an option. This was knowledge that was better left unknown for the majority.

What have you done today to earn your place in this crowded world? :)

Why not have the entire stimulus check automatically applied to anyone's 2020 and 2021 and 2022 and 2023, etc. taxes? That would be the simplest way. No envelopes, postage, and paper checks. No direct deposit into bank accounts. No covid-19 relief. Nothing except the warm and fuzzy feeling the needy get knowing that their taxes are prepaid before the income is earned.

And I don't want to hear any fucking whining by people who bought a bunch of shit they didn't need this year without paying any taxes on it when that time comes to pay.

Marcos is already preemptively (and falsely) blaming that one on Trump.

You're already suggesting that people who were intelligent enough to pay their taxes should be penalized and the government should forgive those taxes to people who didn't pay them next year, all the while (truthfully) saying that all of the extra money given for unemployment raised quite a few working people out of poverty.

The reason why your argument doesn't hold water is that these people who were in poverty paid their taxes before they were out of poverty and had no reason not to pay their taxes this year other than the fact that Trump and the Media told them that they had the option not to (an option which was always an option available to them).

6ix, you are boss Ebenezer Scrooge telling his impoverished employee Bob Chitchat that he doesn't need a raise, what he really needs is to better manage his money.

Mitch McConnell is playing Scrooge compared to bosses in other countries: ‘We are the laughingstock of the world’ — The $600 stimulus check isn’t going over very well.

Compare Stimulus Relief Fund In Other Countries:

Australia: $1,993 a month
Canada: $1,433 a month
Denmark: Up to $3,288 a month
France: Up to $7,575 a month
Germany: Up to $7,326.78 a month
Ireland: Up to $1,793.44 a month
UK: Up to $3,084 a month
U.S.: $l,200 to last for 32 weeks

$600 dollars isn’t even enough for most Americans to pay half their mortgage, as the average is roughly $1300 per month.

Wrong. I am no boss and I have no boss.

These people had more income in 2020 than they did before 2020 before they were brought temporarily out of poverty because of the CARES Act.

There was no reason for them to not pay their taxes, and next year when they can't pay those taxes because they bought shit they didn't need, it will be nobody's fault but their own.

"Penalties for Claiming False Dependents
When you knowingly claim a false dependent on your taxes, you risk sanctions and a potential audit from the IRS. Claiming false deductions like dependents is considered tax evasion and is, therefore, a felony with potentially severe criminal penalties. However, the IRS will only consider alleging a malicious dependent fraud if the taxpayer demonstrated willfulness—meaning that you have to be aware of your crime to be charged. Without the intention, the offense is considered negligence. There are still penalties for neglect; it’s your responsibility to know the rules, but it’s not a crime.

Dependents can make you eligible for other forms of tax breaks in addition to the initial reduction. You can receive tax credits for education expenses, medical bills, and childcare—this is why claiming false deductions for a dependent is so prevalent. If the IRS accuses you of claiming a false dependent, you will be required to pay the full amount you avoided by doing so. In addition to the total amount, you will be required to pay a .5% late fee for the unpaid amount each month that had passed since the tax was due."

Your local bank creates money the same way mine does: I deposit a million, my bank loans out a million. Suddenly there is two million where previously there was only one. The same thing happens when the Federal government borrows a trillion dollars by issuing bonds. When the government sends out a trillion dollars in the form of $600 checks, suddenly there is two trillion in money. The trillion in bonds still exist and the trillion in checks with new money is created. It is not a mysterious process. It is a great way for people like me to own the real and very tangible world of land, buildings, factories and machines by giving people like you phony-baloney imaginary money. The joke is on you when I (and the other top 1%) end up owning the Americans who will be receiving these $600 checks. (6ix, you can keep your shack and your fraction of a acre. Nobody in the top 1% wants your stuff, except maybe as a way to defraud somebody with a mortgage.)

Shit for brains still doesn't get it.

I'm not talking about rolling the dice and claiming false dependents on your 1040 at tax time, retard. OBVIOUSLY THAT IS ILLEGAL.

I'm talking about taking allowances upfront when you fill out your W4 with your employer. (ie: via claiming dependents that don't exist on that form).

By claiming 1 (for yourself), your employer (or their 3rd party payroll company) takes a LOT more out of your check to cover taxes than you're going to need at the end of the year. This is why a majority of people actually LIKE tax time because they have sizable State and FED tax returns coming back to them. This is essentially giving both your local government and the federal government an interest free loan all year long. But some people like doing this because they are shit at saving and they consider this a bonus check. Then there's the really stupid people that actually think the government is giving them something once a year.

By claiming 2 (for yourself, and an additional "phantom"), they take just about enough to break even. In most cases, both the state and fed will still owe you money, but just around 10% of what they would have owed you had you claimed 1 allowance on the W4. (In all the years I've been doing this, there has only been one time where I ever had to write a small check around $30 to pay taxes back, and it was far below the threshold of any fines or interest due (which is usually $500/$600 or more, depending on if we're talking the Federal government or what state you live in).

You can be a total dumbass and claim 3 or 4 or 10 if you'd like, but the more you claim the less is withheld and you will be setting yourself up for a huge tax bill at the end of the year plus fines and interest. Take long enough to pay that back and then you're going to get your ass in deep trouble.

MY FUCKING POINT HERE IS THAT YOU WERE ALWAYS ABLE TO DO THIS, AND IT WAS NOT ILLEGAL TO DO SO. CONTRARY TO WHAT THE MEDIA (AND MARCOS) ARE SAYING, THIS IS NOT SOMETHING NEW THAT HAPPENED DURING THE COVID BULLSHIT ON TRUMP'S WATCH.

This is even doubly true for Unemployment. You don't even have to fill out a W4 and claim allowances there. You can simply decline having the state take out a percentage for FED and Local taxes up front, although they will STRONGLY advise against doing this when you try it.

I've been doing this for decades. I don't need to give the Government a free loan every year as a means of saving money like most people do. I can save money just fine on my own, and I'd rather have a bigger paycheck every 2 weeks instead of chasing after my money every year.

What have you done today to earn your place in this crowded world? :)

1kiki, you read: "Institutions with a ratio below 4% are considered undercapitalized, and those below 3% are significantly undercapitalized." Then you calculated that 100%/4% = 25. There is where your $25 million came from, but that's NOT how it is done, 1kiki.

The bank can only loan out $960,000. When the bank only has $40,000 in the safe, it can certainly get into trouble if depositors want their $1 million back today, but not as much trouble as 1kiki's weird idea that the bank loaned out $25 million after only receiving $1 million in deposits.

While the new legislation provides a sort of bridge to the post-Covid future, it’s a bridge that spans only part of the chasm ahead. And the way the bill was passed offers few reasons to be optimistic about Republican willingness to let the Biden administration finish the project.

Remember, until recently Mitch McConnell showed little interest in passing any kind of relief package. And there’s no mystery about what changed his mind: It was all about the Senate runoffs in Georgia. “Kelly [Loeffler] and David [Perdue] are getting hammered” over the failure to provide aid, he told his political allies.

Once those races end on Jan. 5, McConnell’s sure to lose interest all over again. And unless Democrats win both elections, he’ll still be Senate majority leader, in a position to stand in the way of any further economic relief.

Beyond that, the final hurdles to reaching an agreement were a reminder of something we should have learned during the Obama years: When a Democrat is in the White House, Republicans try to sabotage the economy. And the sabotage doesn’t stop with using phony deficit concerns to block necessary spending; it also involves deliberately increasing the risk of financial crisis.

Yeah, it's called a 'run on the bank', and it's happened in the past and can happen in the future. And that's one reason why banks are now allowed to make themselves whole out of your deposits. They're considered 'unsecured loans' to the bank.

Quote:

Can too big to fail banks really take your money if things go sour and leave you screwed without access to your cash?
The short answer: without the proper regulation in place (which is currently not in place), is: YES.

Quote:

Under conditions of financial strain, customers and depositors who are storing assets in a bank are “creditors” who can immediately be regarded as legitimate bank “shareholders.”
This means that a large portion of their stored funds can be converted into bank equity. To be clear, depositor funds and assets can be legally confiscated by the bank to maintain its solvency.

It's called BAIL-IN.

FURTHERMORE - doooodo - there are NO banks that are 100% capitalized. ALL banks lend money they don't actually have.

In other words - banks are required to have ON HAND less than 10% of money they've loaned.

Sheesh. Even a simpleton could understand that.

But I forgot who I'm discussing this with.

And, besides, your contention has nothing to do with the topic.

6ix, 1kiki: I see why you two live in relative poverty between 1kiki's Soviet era education on how Capitalism really works and 6ix's misunderstandings, which just so happen to match that of poor white trash everywhere. Maybe you two should read a book:

Chapter 29, Money, Banking, and the Federal Reserve System, from Economics 4th Edition
https://libgen.unblockit.dev/search.php?req=Economics+Wells+Krugman

In 2013, police in Lima, Peru, were stunned when they arrested a 13-year-old boy carrying a sack filled with $700,000 in counterfeit U.S. dollars. The boy, along with several other children, worked for one of the many highly successful counterfeiting rings in Peru.

In recent years, Peru has become a major source for the production of counterfeit U.S. currency. Workers in these rings meticulously add decorative details to printed bills by hand, creating high-quality fakes that are very hard to detect.

The funny thing is that elaborately decorated pieces of paper have little or no intrinsic value. Indeed, a $100 bill printed with blue or orange ink wouldn’t be worth the paper it was printed on.

But if the ink on that piece of paper is just the right shade of green, people will think that it’s money and will accept it as payment for very real goods and services. Why? Because they believe, correctly, that they can do the same thing: exchange that piece of green paper for real goods and services.

In fact, here’s a riddle: If a fake $100 bill from Peru enters the United States and is successfully exchanged for a good or service with nobody ever realizing it’s fake, who gets hurt? Accepting a fake $100 bill isn’t like buying a car that turns out to be a lemon or a meal that turns out to be inedible. As long as the bill's counterfeit nature remains undiscovered, it will pass from hand to hand just like a real $100 bill.

The answer to the riddle is that the actual victims of the counterfeiting are U.S. taxpayers because counterfeit dollars reduce the revenues available to pay for the operations of the U.S. government. Accordingly, the Secret Service diligently monitors the integrity of U.S. currency, promptly investigating any reports of counterfeit dollars.

The efforts of the Secret Service attest to the fact that money isn’t like ordinary goods and services, and it certainly is not like a piece of colored paper. In this section we'll look at what money is, the role that it plays, the workings of a modern monetary system, and the institutions that sustain and regulate it, including the Federal Reserve.

Seriously dooodo - the bottom 50% could not POSSIBLY waste that much money. The fact is, they're not earning enough. (And the statistic no one provides is the mode ... becasue that would be too stark a look at the US economy and how it doesn't work for the average person.)

I'd say it's probably a little of Column A and a little of Column B...

Yes. A majority of Americans are absolutely terrible with money.

Yes. The likelihood of Americans being terrible with money grows as they have access to more of it.

This isn't entirely their fault though. Our school systems are designed to churn out millions of idiots who can't even wipe their own asses.

Do three things and a majority of Americans would live better lives as adults.

1. Finally make that switch from the Imperial system of math to Metric.

2. Teach Civics every year to kids instead of "Social Studies" so people know how government works and what their rights are.

3. Teach economics every year, particularly in High School, instead of cramming their heads full of bullshit a vast majority of them will never use like Geometry and Trigonometry. Every American should know how to do their own taxes, balance their checkbook, and create a budget by the time they graduate high school.

As low as the quality of life is in America for the majority compared to 25 years ago, it goes without saying that a majority of the people bitching today still do a lot of dumb shit and make a lot of dumb decisions with their money to get them where they are. Take a look at the truly poor and how they are able to stretch a buck out of necessity before bitching about how bad you've got it.

I'm not arguing that the system as it's currently running isn't fair. I'm just saying that Second's not entirely wrong when he says that throwing money at the problem isn't going to fix it.

As a personal antecdote to this idea, I'll use coworkers at my last two jobs as an example.

It's already a widely held belief that a majority of smokers and people with bad diets are poor or close to the poverty line. Both of those jobs don't lead me to believe the contrary.

Not only did a majority of those people working overnights smoke, but they also ate fast food every night on lunch. And they're buying cigarettes at $8.00 to $10.00 per pack, instead of rolling their own for a little over $1.00.

$5.00 for lunch and a pack a day habit at $10.00 per pack adds up quick. At one job, those two things alone cost two hours of their labor for the day after taxes, or 1/4 of their earnings.

And the idea that you can't eat healthy on a budget is a boldfaced lie.

It takes a little work though. If you want to eat healthy and have somebody else do the cooking for you everyday and you can't ever bring yourself to try to buy stuff on sale or with coupons or buy in bulk, then DUH... It's not going to be cheap.

Trump threatens to torpedo COVID relief with new demands, requests $2,000 stimulus checks

Suddenly demanding changes fellow Republicans have opposed.

Trump assailed the bipartisan $900 billion package in a video he tweeted out Tuesday night and suggested he may not sign the legislation. He called on lawmakers to increase direct payments for most Americans from $600 to $2,000 for individuals and $4,000 for couples.

Railing against a range of provisions in the bill, including for foreign aid, he told lawmakers to “get rid of the wasteful and unnecessary items from this legislation and to send me a suitable bill.”

Trump sure does like drama, doesn't he? He sure hates planning ahead, doesn't he? His voters are no different. They love the emotional highs in life. They hate planning ahead to avoid predictable dramatic lows. That's why their lives and Trump's Presidency are such messes.

I went back and forth about telling you how idiotic Trump voters are with money. I'll give you one super-compressed story: a Trumpkin came to me for advise about a money making scheme. I showed him with articles and calculations that it will fail. I spent many more hours thinking about his plan and doing research than he did. What was the scheme? He buys four new cars and loans them to Uber drivers in exchange for a cut of their earnings. He gets extra-income without work, the drivers prosper, everybody is better off than before. Typical American dream. It didn't work out that way. There were a thousand twists and turns in this story back in 2019 before Covid-19, but the Repo Man eventually towed away the cars, ending the story. Now there is only debt and sorrow where once there were dreams of an easier life. The smarter Trumpkins can learn the hard way. The others? They never learn.

I let him talk and talk and show me the dealership papers signed two years ago. He now can’t afford the car, but if he stops payment his son can’t get to a job in Louisiana. This is about the only things I had to say before writing a check:

You paid $2,100 for a MasterTech warranty. That was money wasted.

Trump denounced the stimulus bill he had already agreed to as a disgrace. “I am asking Congress to amend this bill and increase the ridiculously low $600 to $2,000.”

Ironically, Trump’s call for a larger check is the position Democrats have taken for many months. Trump’s apparent attempt to scuttle the existing deal opens the opportunity for Democrats to get a much better stimulus deal. Democrats have a chance to paint Republican candidates as being stingier than their own party’s standard-bearer.

In a cagey move, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has decided to take Trump’s rhetoric at face value to force him to live up to it. “Republicans repeatedly refused to say what amount the President wanted for direct checks,” Pelosi tweeted. “At last, the President has agreed to $2,000—Democrats are ready to bring this to the Floor this week by unanimous consent. Let’s do it!”

On the stimulus, Trump’s own long-term interests no longer align with the GOP’s. If he ran for president again in 2024, it would help if he could say that he tried to give a generous stimulus but was thwarted by Congress.

The most stalwart opposition to $2000 checks is McConnell’s own caucus. This blows up McConnell’s deal and screws Georgia Senators Loeffler and Purdue who’ve now been wrong footed. Pelosi is right to call the bluff. Push as far as you can and force a showdown between Trump and McConnell because ultimately that’s big battle that has to happen before this era ends.

Pelosi’s play is the right one and could pay off for the Democrats in a variety of ways. If Trump refuses the offer, his own bad management and dishonesty will be highlighted. If Republicans scuttle the deal, that’ll hurt them in Georgia and future elections. If Trump and the Senate GOP do go along, then there will be a much bigger stimulus as Democrats wanted since April.

I bought a (now) 26 year old car 12 years ago direct from the dealership that was trying to repossess it from somebody who was going through bankruptcy. $5,000 was still owed on the car. I paid $2,000 cash by talking with the person's bankruptcy lawyer.

My last car payment on any of the cars that I've owned was a lump sum $3,000+ payment of the balance when I got a bonus at my job during the first year of the GWB presidency. Since then, I have never had a single car payment or paid a dime on interest. I've also only carried the bare-bones legal liability insurance on any of these cars.

When something breaks, I learn how to fix it at a very small fraction of the cost of what a mechanic would charge. And I also end up with new tools and more knowledge that will last for the rest of my life to boot.

Not including oil changes and gas, my cost of car ownership since 2001 has been $3,800 for two cars paid in cash, and roughly $4,750 in car insurance. Throw in an additional $500-$600 for tires and the stuff I've fixed. (We will call licensing and title fees a wash with the money I got for junking the two cars).

Divided by 19 years, that's less than $500 a year to get from A to B and be legally insured by a reputable insurance outfit.

My East Coast Biden* voter brother and his wife just spent $70,000 on a new vehicle that instantly lost twice what I've paid to drive a car for nearly two decades the moment they drove it off the payment. (Meaning that in that single moment, they spent twice as much money as it took me 599,184,000 seconds to spend on vehicles).

That's not to mention all of the interest they'll be paying over the years for it, and the fact that I bought an entire house for what they're going to be selling for around $15k in 4 or 5 years if they're lucky.

Their monthly car payment without even considering the insurance premium is going to be far more than my cost of driving per year. And that's if you ignore the fact that they already "own" another $50,000 vehicle that they "bought" last year too.

Hell... Their monthly car payment on just the one vehicle could easily cover every monthly bill I have, including property taxes, with enough money left over to buy a subscription to every video streaming service in existence.

I could live off of what most jokers pay in interest every month.

I saw the newsletter a few times when it was in print, but I didn’t really dig into it until later on, when I was in bad financial shape and I turned to my local library to find out ways to help me out of my debt crisis. There, I found The Complete Tightwad Gazette, and it was a revelation – a thousand page tome full of ideas on how to save money, conveniently written in bite sized pieces almost like blog postings.. Needless to say, I ate it up and was duly inspired, not only as a person looking to save money, but as a writer, too.

Why are you pretending that Democrat voters aren't equally worrying about Covid relief right now?

You do realize that a majority of Democrat voters, particularly in Urban areas, were already on various government programs before 2020 happened, don't you?

Hell... Your own Lefty Media makes a point of writing stories about how they're the ones disproportionately hit by all of this every day.

Just because I don't worry about it, I'm not going to sit here and say that only one side or the other is worried about where their meal is coming from.

I suggest that you do the same, if you want to learn anything about how to empathize with others. Life in 2020 sucks for almost everybody right now.

They broke the mold when they made me. I fully recognize this. If you want to go on pretending that the stories you tell about yourself here are true, you're going to have to stop applying the story of that life to everybody else in the country, because your (very likely fictional) character is far from the norm as well.

What have you done today to earn your place in this crowded world? :)

The only Democrats I know who are desperately for Covid-19 Relief to pass are Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer, but I do know hundreds of Trump voters who need that money. It must be a Texas thing where poor Democrats get help from other Democrats while poor Trump voters get nothing from other Trump voters except a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year greeting, since words cost nothing.

With time running out before the end of Congress’s current session, there’s one tool that President Donald Trump could use to block a new stimulus bill without outright rejecting it: a pocket veto.

As Fox News reporter Chad Pergram explains, the name of this veto comes from presidents’ ability to effectively table bills and put them in their “pocket.”

As laid out in the Constitution, if the president does not sign a bill within 10 days of receiving it (excluding Sundays) and Congress adjourns during that time, the bill is considered vetoed. Because Congress has already adjourned by that point, it does not have the ability to override this veto.

Speculation about a potential pocket veto has emerged this week after Trump posted a last-minute speech criticizing the stimulus bill as a “disgrace” and calling on Congress to amend it. In his remarks, he urged lawmakers to increase the amount allocated in stimulus checks from $600 to $2,000. He also threatened to oppose the bill, though he did not commit to vetoing it if these demands aren’t met, raising questions about how he’ll respond when Congress likely fails to make the changes he wants.

It’s very possible that Trump won’t do anything and will simply sign the bill anyway; but if he wanted to, he could still veto the bill directly or go the pocket veto route.

First off, that's not a sentence.

Seriously? The top Republican in the House said he, personally, will stop Nancy Pelosi from increasing the $600 payment to $2,000 and he will do it on Christmas Eve. If you want to see that stinginess in real life, go to any Trump voter, show them you are starving, and ask for money. Ask for $600. Ask for $2,000. The answer will be "Hell NO!" unless you ask for tiny sums such as $1 or $5 or $20.

What would I do? Since I am not stingy like Trump voters, with friends I help with no limits, even if they like Trump. Since I am not cowardly like Trump voters, with enemies I stomp on them without fear of consequences. Because miserliness (in your case), stinginess and fearfulness controls much of what a Trump voter does, the world pretty much can depend on them to turn their back whenever a friend or foe or, sometimes, family asks for a gift of money, unless it is a very small gift. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Meanwhile, in reality...

The only person who's gotten any money into the hands of the unemployed is Trump, who diverted $1,800 per person from FEMA after it was clear both parties in Congress weren't serious about doing so.

Not much, for sure, but the new $900 Billion dollar bill that both parties came to an agreement on only after the election isn't either.

But there sure is a lot of stupid shit that money is going to in the bill.

Maybe I'll compile a list here...

What's in the 5,593 Page Bill?

Or

Working Really Hard to Spend Money on Anything BUT Covid Relief...

https://lawandcrime.com/covid-19-pandemic/the-5-weirdest-things-congre
ss-shoved-into-the-covid-19-stimulus-bill
/ (The Tweets from people on both sides are priceless for this story)

1. Tax deductions for “Three-martini lunches.”

Until now, businesses have only been able to deduct 50-percent of meal expenses on their federal tax returns. Under this change, for which President Donald Trump advocated as a way to help business, business meals will be deductible from soup to nuts. The bill awaits Trump’s signature.

2. Funding for three new museums: The Smithsonian American Women’s History Museum, the National Museum of the American Latino, and the Coast Guard Museum.

3. Prohibits “doping” in horseracing.

In a subsection labeled the “Horseracing Integrity and Safety Act of 2020,” the bill creates a committee to regulate the use of performance-enhancing drugs in horse racing.

4. Make illegal streaming a felony.

The bill makes several changes to copyright law, including one measure aimed at protecting the intellectual property rights of artists and entertainment companies. Under the law, illegal streaming for commercial profit is a felony.

Story about this here: https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/thr-esq/the-covid-19-stimulus-bill-w
ould-make-illegal-streaming-a-felony

5. Warns China against interfering in the naming of the next Dalai Lama.

Under the bill, “interference by the Government of the People’s Republic of China or any other government in the process of recognizing a successor or reincarnation of the 14th Dalai Lama and any future Dalai Lamas would represent a clear abuse of the right to religious freedom of Tibetan Buddhists and the Tibetan people.”

Rewrites federal election law for 2020, which will force states to:
- Bar voter ID requirements
- Count absentee ballots that arrive 10 days after election day
- Enable same-day voter registration everywhere

It harkens back to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) once explaining that a bill needed to be passed in order to find out what was in it. In a related story, our government is broken.

Exhibit A: "Of the funds appropriated under title III of the Act that are made available for assistance for Pakistan, not less than $15,000,000 shall be made available for democracy programs and not less than $10,000,000 shall be made available for gender programs." Yep. $10 million. For gender programs. In Pakistan.

Exhibit B: Funds for "Resource Study of Springfield (Illinois) Race Riot." That riot occurred in (checks notes) 1908.

Exhibit C: "Statement Of Policy Regarding The Succession Or Reincarnation Of The Dalai Lama." We'll just leave that one there.

Exhibit D: There's actually a commission tasked with educating “consumers about the dangers associated with using or storing portable fuel containers for flammable liquids near an open flame."

Exhibit E: Another $40 million will be allocated "for the necessary expenses for the operation, maintenance and security" of The Kennedy Center, which received $25 million in another COVID-19 relief bill earlier this year. Also in a related story, the Kennedy Center has been closed.

Exhibits F, G, H, I, J: $86 million for assistance to Cambodia; $130 million to Nepal, $135 million to Burma, $453 million to Ukraine, $700 million to Sudan.

Exhibit K: The bill creates a Women's History Museum and an American Latino Museum as part of the Smithsonian. Overall, the Smithsonian gets (checks notes again) $1 billion.

You get the idea. It's the oldest trick in Washington: Take a bill that symbolically is overwhelmingly supported by the American people on its title alone (COVID-19 relief for those struggling due to the pandemic). Then attach every pet project possible, in this case by combining it with an omnibus spending bill, and away we go.

lol... That's just on page 1 of Google.

6ix, do a Thought Experiment:
1) Withdraw $600 from your bank account.
2) Give it all away today. It is Christmas Eve and you are Santa's helper.

I think you can’t do it, even in your imagination. You do it for real? Never.
Most Republicans can’t, won’t, couldn’t imagine doing it.

You're welcome.

Your answer proved what is wrong with you and why the Republican Congressmen will be extremely stingy this Christmas with Covid-19 relief. It is the same thing that is wrong with every Trump voter I know. There are other thought experiments that measure bravery when you are all alone, understanding of money, openness to new experiences, willingness to take calculated risks, mental calmness under high pressure, tolerance for pain, endurance of hardship without mentally breaking down, etc. but I'm sure from reading you for years that you have the same weaknesses, which you mistake for strengths, that Trump voters I know have. To rub it in, that is why Trump voters' lives are full of trouble. Their weaknesses and predilections cause the trouble.
