He just tweeted this shit...

"For purposes of National Security, Section 230 must be immediately terminated!!!
10:11 PM · Nov 26, 2020"

I really hope that you're just dumbing that down for the dummies and that's not your actual intention, because... THIS IS A TERRIBLE FUCKING IDEA! Terminating 230 in its entirety is the end of free speech on the internet, forever.

Dorsey and Zuckerburg and the heads at Google WANT that. They have boatloads of cash and machine learning A.I. that's going to be able to police all of their content however they see fit. It won't be long before they don't need Section 230 at all anymore.

But removing Section 230 immediately kills off any competition. Any alternative media who supports free speech and doesn't editorialize their content will be 100% liable for any illegal content that shows up on their platform.

If you really meant terminate 230, Trump (and the 270k people who like the Tweet), then y'all need to read a fuckin' book.

DO NOT REMOVE SECTION 230.

ENFORCE SECTION 230.

Strip 230 protections from Twitter and Facebook and Google for abusing the shield.

I dont know enough about US Laws or the legal effects of 230 but it seems we've been going the wrong way for a while now. It seeems 230 was still allowing people to get sued, someone posts an old 70 yr maybe almost 100+ year old cartoon vid of Captain Marvel or old Superman or Captain America or the King Kong nmovie or the Happy Birthday song and some bunch of other guys from some big Rich Mega Corp company send in the lawyers to shut it all down, exceptions for law also include corporate copyright media violations, instagram whores? sex work-related material, and Burn Loot Murder Antifa commie Jihadi violations of federal criminal law?

Why are Whistle blowers that expose shit like Enron and Banking Scandals getting hunted down?

Whatever the Law was to stop help freedom, promote free art and speech, to block political jihad, artist theft, perversions and radicalism it didnt seem to work op well.

What happened to freedom culture and the online culture of free?

Why should I be forced to go to some fringe almost hackerish website to get a show almost 100 yrs old or a 100 year old classic book?

There is something perverted about the way these Mega Corps chase down hundreds of year old songs and try to bribe judges to copyright them, long after the life time of an artist, long after that writer or film maker is dead.

I honestly find it ridiculous that someone blocks the news from getting out and you have to wait for Fox or the BBC or CNN to start spinnng the bullshit story
It is also ridiculous how some Nasty Criminal Corrupted Judge got bribed and put a copyright to "Happy Birthday to You"

The political and criminal Whistleblower continues to be hunted down.

Libertarianism would probably have gone so much better without those weird Canadian, Euro and American political 'Pirate Party' groups getting corrupted and sold out.

Internet was like a Public notice board, a phone company, and not an overall Newspaper Magazine as publishers of content, such as Tv newspapers or radio and TV broadcasters which are subject to stringent fact-checking before publishing or airing content, 1997, in the landmark cyberlaw case of Reno v. ACLU, the United States Supreme Court struck the anti-indecency provisions of the Act.
an attempt to ban South Park rude jokes, exposing the degeneracy and riots of BLM Antifa and the Perverted Rightwing Republicans who touched people in public bathrooms, it was an attempt regulate both indecency and obscenity in cyberspace. In the 90s the web becomes a thing, people chat and send mails on the internet and 1996, a panel of federal judges blocked part of the CDA, saying it would infringe upon the free speech rights of adults, Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act was not part of the original Senate legislation, but was added in conference with the House, where it had been separately introduced by Representatives Christopher Cox (R-CA) and Ron Wyden (D-OR) as the Internet Freedom and Family Empowerment Act, social media companies took direct action against a major U.S. publisher, perhaps a news paper had published a story on a scandal drugs hookers movement of oil or money. The paper is among the top five newspapers by circulation in the United States. New BigTech actions raised serious questions about many social media platforms future Section 230 immunity status, the Big Tech giants Facebook and Twitter interfered, Facebook wanted Trump banned, Reddit bans Trump supporters and Twitter banned people who posted the story, including White House Press Secretary for sharing the article, Wikipedia editors censored the bombshell, they all want Trump banned and censored.

I believe in solving problems, not sharing them.

Agree with you both, but you're talking two different things.

SECTION 230 was enacted into law in 1996 (under Bill Clinton) as part of the Communicatios Decency Act. It protects platforms from liability when third parties post libel or other unlawful content. In order to retain Section 230 protections, the platform must not engage in EDITORIAL CONTROL. Once it does that, it becomes a publisher and responsible for the site contents. I agree with SIX don't terminate 230, ENFORCE it.

All of those COPYRIGHT provisions, as applied to electronic content, are part of the Digital Millenium Copyright Act (DMCA) passed into law in 1998, ALSO under Bill Clinton.
Quote:

The Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) is a 1998 United States copyright law that implements two 1996 treaties of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO). It criminalizes production and dissemination of technology, devices, or services intended to circumvent measures that control access to copyrighted works (commonly known as digital rights management or DRM). It also criminalizes the act of circumventing an access control, whether or not there is actual infringement of copyright itself.

See? I TOLD you Bill Clinton was a transnationalist!

Anyway, our entire copyright system has been hijacked by big corporations and needs an entire re-do. Copyrights should have much shorter expiry (like seven years) and should never be able to be bought or sold.

Trump spent Thanksgiving night railing against Section 230 on Twitter as the #DiaperDon hashtag went viral
https://www.businessinsider.com.au/donald-trump-calls-end-section-230-
diaperdon-goes-viral-twitter-2020-11

President Donald Trump accused Twitter on Thursday night of making “false trends” and demanded again that Section 230 be “terminated.”
Twitter users mocked the president using the hashtag #DiaperDon after he sat at a small table during a news conference and posted frustrated tweets.
More than 230,000 posts have used #DiaperDon on Twitter.
Trump also echoed his previous claims accusing Twitter of bias against conservatives.
Among his 14 tweets Thursday, he also targeted Fox News, Rep. Alexandria-Ocasio Cortez, and NFL players kneeling.

Since I'm not a "Trump Cultist" like you continually insist, I'm sure as fuck going to speak out when he says something 100% against my core beliefs.

It's no surprise that you dumbfucks here let this slip down to the second page almost immediately.

If Trump were to get this accomplished, it would be the single largest incorrect decision he made in 4 years... worse than anything else he did combined. And it would change the internet for all of us... forever.

But the Legacy Media and Google WELCOME IT, so your preprogrammed responses and bitches don't include any outrage against terminating section 230.

If we had a government that wasn't corrupt to the core, THIS would have been the thing that was grounds for a Trump impeachment. Not some rediculous transcript with Ukraine's President that was taken wildly out of context and not even an impeachable offense in the first place even if it did go down the way that the NYT tells you to think that it did.

It takes some random GOP member nobody ever heard of before to bring some sanity to the discussion.

I mean, honestly... Trump's thoughts on how to handle Big Tech and feeling that terminating 230 is the way to go about doing it makes me think that he doesn't actually know shit about the internet outside of turning his phone on and clicking on the Twitter app, and though his entire 2 campaigns and 4 years in office using it was just the result of hiring a bunch of other people who did.

He's just as dumb about tech as 99% of the other crusty old assholes making millions of dollars "serving" the public and making terrible decisions and ruling son all things tech over the last 40 years, and who have given a disproportionate amount of power over free speech and intellectual rights to multi-national corporations who do not have any reason to give a damn about the US Constitution.

Yeah. I know this. I've been following it every day.

While you're talking about bullshit like Trump's taxes and calling him a racist, there are actually legitimate reasons to disagree with him.

But since the Legacy Media and Big Tech actually WANT Section 230 terminated, they're going to fake disapproval and let the story die before it ever actually becomes one, and (they hope) before it's too late to do anything about it.

It's shit like THIS that should be making people burn Portland down if that's how they want to express outrage.

DO NOT TERMINATE SECTION 230.

ENFORCE 230.

Remove the shield from Facebook, Twitter, Google/YouTube and any other corporation who have decided that they are publishers.

Why Trump is a bad President is that (more than the previous 10 Presidents taken all at the same time) he does not mean what he says and what he says doesn't mean anything. He makes noises all the time, but that's because his brain is a very quiet and empty place. His taxes are simply one tiny example (but one that could put him in jail) out of many things he talks about constantly, yet the words out of his mouth make no sense. To say it plainly as I can, Trump is grossly incompetent at everything connected to the job, the actual work that a President does, because he will not shut his mouth and think about CONSEQUENCES of what he is saying before he says it.

Wrong. Trump was a great president.

And if Biden* is our next President I will be voting for Trump again in 4 years.

But THIS should worry you. The fact that the Legacy Media is giving it a sliver of attention should worry you.

While Biden* is in power, you will see team Biden* trying to terminate 230 as well.

Removing Section 230 is the Elite wet dream. The Government will be able to decide what is truth, and anybody putting anything online that doesn't adhere to that message will be sued into oblivion.

All news outlets will become redundant since they will all be printing the same stories. At that point, we may as well only have one news channel called "News".

They're giving as little coverage of this as possible right now and flooding us with all of the other distractions in hopes that people won't remember that it was originally Trump who wanted to terminate Section 230. (Just like how they got most people to forget that it was Hillary Clinton that started the Birther movement).

The people who WILL remember this will be those on the lower end of the intelligence spectrum who were Trump supporters and will still agree with it because Trump told them it was a good idea.

Found it - just some of the great things our Dear Leader has accomplished as president:

1. Divided the country in half
2. Made the US a laughing stock around the world
3. Made the US an untrusted "ally" around the world (Kurds, NATO, Nuclear Deal, Climate Deal)
4. Raised the credibility and standing of White Nationalists and Racists in the US, and around the world
5. Responsible for the deaths of more Americans than any national enemy in the last 50 years. Especially awesome in that it would have been so easy to prevent ("I like wearing a mask"). 4 words, saves American lives, he couldn't do it.
6. Ukraine extortion https://theintercept.com/2019/10/10/trump-crimes-law/
7. Lied to the US public daily to the tune of 20,000 plus false statements
8. Directed gov money to his properties (Airforce in Scotland, etc)
9. Wants to get rid of 230

I'm sure there are more, and probably plenty that we don't know of. Yet. Such a Great Leader!

Rhetoric I've seen used is to scrap it entirely. If they mean just a "loophole", they're sure doing a good job of mincing words.

Quote:

It's neither ineffective or useless. Either in how it's written or how it's enforced.

Facebook, Youtube and twitter (and other precursors to these sites like MySpace and Friendster) would never have survived their first year out when buried under mountains of lawsuits from the RIAA and MPAA alone.

Section 230 did its job remarkably well, and continues to do so.

It's Facebook, Youtube and Twitter themselves who are now practicing significant overreach and removing the shield by doing so.

It's incumbent on our government to enforce 230 and officially recognize that they no longer are protected under 230 and let the vultures pick them apart.

You don't want to see 230 go away with some "promise" that it will be replaced with something better. That would never happen.

Without 230 the internet as we've come to know it would no longer exist. Haken would be subject to lawsuits for stuff that members have posted over the years at FFF.NET (and if Haken actually reads any of this crap we all post in here, I would highly recommend taking the site down if 230 is ever successfully removed). It would immediately destroy any competition to Twitter, Youtube and Facebook as well, permanently establishing them as the only sources of social media on the internet, and leaving anything you post subject to censorship from their AI.

Section 230 the interwebs law? now to declare Section 230 unconstitutional and restore Trump’s accounts ... Trump repeatedly called to repeal Section 230 while president and signed an executive order — which the Degenerate Hunter and Ridin for Biden planned to have rescinded???

Ban Pirate News, Dalate, Moderate and Censor posts or just go out and Arrest Pirate News?
Section 230 immunizes websites from liability for content posted by others and for good faith actions
Pornography and Terrorism is all over the interwebs despite such a thing as the 'Decency Act'

Section 230 isn't unconstitutional.

Section 230 is important.

What the Big Tech firms such as Google, Facebook and Twitter are doing while also being protected by 230 is unconstitutional.

DO NOT CONFLATE THE TWO.

And he who is not sufficiently courageous to defend his soul — don’t let him be proud of his ‘progressive’ views, and don’t let him boast that he is an academician or a people’s artist, a distinguished figure or a general. Let him say to himself: I am a part of the herd and a coward. It’s all the same to me as long as I’m fed and kept warm.

Of course he does. I expect Biden to want to kill it.

But Trump wanting to do so was one of the very few things I disagreed with him on.

The Date and event more important than an idea Before the Gnomes, Orcs, Goblins and Trolls took over the interwebs. July effect, sometimes referred to as the July phenomenon, is a perceived but scientifically unfounded increase in the risk of medical errors and surgical complications that occurs in association with the time of year in which United States medical school graduates begin residencies. A similar period in the United Kingdom is known as the killing season or, more specifically, Black Wednesday, referring to the first Wednesday in August when postgraduate trainees commence their rotations. Eternal September or the September that never ended Usenet slang for a period beginning around 1993 when Internet service providers began offering Usenet access to many new users. The flood of new users overwhelmed the existing culture for online forums and the ability to enforce existing norms. AOL followed with their Usenet gateway service in March 1994, leading to a constant stream of new users. Hence, from the early Usenet point of view, the influx of new users in September 1993 never ended.

Communications Decency?

good faith removal or moderation of third-party material they deem obscene, lewd, lascivious, filthy, excessively violent, harassing, or otherwise objectionable

Big Tech’s ‘Trillion Dollar Monopolies’ Must Be Demolished By Revoking Section 230 Privileges

In the 1959 case, Smith v. California, where the Supreme Court ruled that putting liability on the provider (a book store in this case) would have "a collateral effect of inhibiting the freedom of expression, by making the individual the more reluctant to exercise it."

Section 230 protections are not limitless and require providers to remove material illegal on a federal level, such as in copyright infringement cases. In 2018, Section 230 was amended by the Stop Enabling Sex Traffickers Act (FOSTA-SESTA) to require the removal of material violating federal and state sex trafficking laws. In the following years, protections from Section 230 have come under more scrutiny on issues related to hate speech and ideological biases in relation to the power that technology companies can hold on political discussions and became a major issue during the 2020 United States presidential election.

Section 230 has often been called "The 26 words that made the Internet"

Many social media sites, notably the Big Tech companies of Facebook, Google, and Apple, as well as Twitter, have come under scrutiny as a result of the alleged Russian interference in the 2016 United States elections, where it was alleged that Russian agents used the sites to spread propaganda and fake news to swing the election in favor of Donald Trump. These platforms also were criticized for not taking action against users that used the social media outlets for harassment and hate speech against others. Shortly after the passage of FOSTA-SESTA acts, some in Congress recognized that additional changes could be made to Section 230 to require service providers to deal with these bad actors, beyond what Section 230 already provided to them

Nice.

Pass that, then all you need to do is move every tech firm outside of the united states (by taxing them so hard that it isn't financially viable for them to remain here) and you can have a complete lockdown of the internet like china has and stay within the boundaries of the Constitution.

At least, that's what I'd do if I was the man who sold the world.

It’s so simple: Axe 26 words from the Communications Decency Act. Welcome to a world without Section 230.

“no provider or user of an interactive computer service shall be treated as the publisher or speaker of any information provided by another information content provider”

I'll tell you what... Without even getting into the large-picture ramifications of this happening, FFF.net finally shuts down the very day this passes.

Not only would Haken be responsible for every vile thing than anybody has ever posted in the RWED or other forums on this site, but he would also be wide open for lawsuits for every pirated link to movies, books and comic books that Second has posted over the years, and any potentially countless links that others have put up in the years prior to that.

The internet would be a shell of what it used to be. All small blogs that aren't run by billionaires disappear within days or weeks and all we're left with is Facebook, Twitter, Youtube and news sites. Comment sections on the news sites are likely to be taken down. Possibly on YouTube as well. The moderation teams and AI will see huge financial increases and Terms of Services will be updated with draconian mandates on what you can and cannot say. Most of this will be under the guise of being "family friendly" or "safe for children", but anything deemed to be "misinformation" by TPTB would be silenced as well. Further laws would be passed in congress allowing the companies the tools to go after users for financial damages and even prison time for saying anything that could put their companies in a legal predicament.

I've seen this future...
