So, it's been almost a month now since we contracted Covid.

Kiddo brought it home from work. They had two positives one day and dozens the next. It really is incredibly virulent.

However, we were all sick for maybe all of two days.

Kiddo and I had super stuffy noses, sneezed a lot, then lost our sense of taste and smell, and had mild stomach upset. The sense of taste has mostly returned, the sense of smell seems to be taking longer.. It's like we really have to sniff hard to smell anything... We both DID test positive.

The night it hit I doubled vitamin D and piled on blankets on all of us and we sweated it out for a few hours, once we did we all felt better. It does seem to be reactive to heat like they've been saying.

Hubby sneezed a lot, and had mild stomach upset. He never lost taste or smell. He also didn't test positive, although he was off work for a couple weeks due to our exposure. I'm fairly certain it was a false negative. His immune system is really good for his age. The night before I felt the effects we had sex, so I'm pretty sure he got a good bit of exposure out of that

We all had several days where we slept pretty hard.

My lungs are pretty much toast from years of uncontrolled allergies, so a week later I had just a hint of pneumonia from all the sneezing, so I took some left over antibiotics and was over it in a weekend...

HOWEVER, the sister of one of the people at kiddo's work has died from covid, and my cousin has also gotten it in the last couple days.

My cousin is much worse off and is having fevers, sinus infection, extreme lethargy, and is starting to have lung and throat issues as well.

I am amazed with all my underlying health issues that it didn't cause any more problems than it has. I'm also THRILLED to have it over with

I would like to know if I'm one of those rare people that is still contagious, but they aren't going to re-test us. I have seen my grandma (after the mandatory 10 day quarantine passed and she is still ok, so I doubt we are spreading anything. She really needed groceries by then) Kiddo went back to work a few days later since they all had it anyway.

My aunt has had several clients that have had it and it seems like everyone over 60 has a harder time of it. My cousin is 61, btw...

Anyone else had it or know people that have had it??

So can I stop wearing a mask? I wonder if stores would allow that?

It doesn't appear that the vast majority of people can get it twice...

Glad to read that you're well and the family is recovering. It can be a scary experience. Hubby was admitted to Covid unit with racking chills, fever, cough, fatigue, and very low Osat. (We have a leftover monitor from my mom who had COPD.)

Fortunately he DIDN'T have Covid, but a serious bacterial pneumonia, but the other people in the unit weren't so fortunate ... he could hear them coughing their lungs out from both side of his room.

Complications and serious illness are almost entirely due to age. The correlation coefficient between age and seriousness of illness is something like 0.9976 ...nearly perfect.

Take your time recovering, dont push yourselves too hard. Some people experience sudden and unexpected relapse.

So take care of yourselves, please.

Thanks, but we appear to be doing pretty well.

Even if we "relapsed" it wouldn't be much of a relapse... I've had worse flus. And colds. And hay fevers. I've had full blown "can't get out of bed for a week".
This wasn't even on the scale.

Glad to see that you and your family are over it and so far no major left overs. Hope that continues.

The lady doc that I work for has been tested twice and she may have had a mild case in March which was when I was laid off. And she is lucky given that she is in her early 70s.

Yikes - glad you and your youngin' are ok!

It's so weird/crazy/frustrating that we still don't know conclusively (beyond a few factors) who gets it real bad and who has your experience and others who have nothing.

I have seen some reporting that people who have had it only maintain some form of immunity for a short while - it wears off in other words. Perhaps the virus keeps mutating? It's a brilliantly made thing - god put some of this best people on it.

I would wear a mask if for no other reason than to protect you from mask nazis.

I may have had it.

Last December I was the sickest I have been in my life, the first few days, and the last day or so of November. Explosive diarrhea and vomit, simultaneously. I thought It was some food poisoning or stomach bug, and then it triggered or coincided with a severely arthritic reaction to BGH. I was in bed for a few days, boss said don't come to work for 4 days in a row. I lost more than 20 pounds, dropping my weight to the lowest in 33 years.

I discounted possibility of Covid because the symptoms were reported to be respiratory, and I didn't have that. The Owners and Field Engineers had been to Europe in November, I think Italy, Germany, and someplace else. Covid was reportedly only in America in February. Then I read some anecdotes of folk who had tested positive and only had the symptoms that I had.

I never got tested, although I gave several samples to a clinic. and I have no plans to be tested. I'm not sure if a history of Covid will become a detriment or albatross in the future, or a source of income, immunity.

My home remedies for what I was experiencing were 7-Up and soda crackers, or club crackers, for the nausea. And chicken noodles soup. After stabilizing, had no appetite for a week. Lots of fruit, and simple PBJs sandwiches. Eventually resolved the arthritis with Boost. The Boost should have been earlier, but I was clearly not thinking clearly, and I was juggling a lot of things at the time. I had never had thsat level of severity reaction to BGH before, and didn't clearly understand what it was until it subsided a bit to an almost recognizable sensation.

Anywhoo. Thanks Brenda, Crunchy

I don't think the thing that was going around in March was Covid, I think it was a stomach bug... Hubby and Kiddo got that one too. Kiddo threw up for three days straight, I was much more worried about her then. I think it's really odd that everyone was sick in March and that bug was never mentioned at all by any authorities....just Covid.

We did Campbells for several days during this, since we couldn't taste anything anyway. Why bother cookin'??

Peanuts are the last thing anyone should eat when sick, they have a couple dozen allergens in them, so when your system is already taxed, simple is better. Most crackers contain TBHQ which is a cousin of butane, and can affect gut DNA permanently for the negative. We only eat Pepperidge Farms butter crackers. They taste different because they aren't full of shit like everything else.

People here are already starting to not wear masks anyway, in the stores that have mandatory signs there were a couple dozen that didn't have them on, compared to two months ago when everyone did. We're pretty rural, and people tend to mind their own business here.

Glad I bought that power sprayer a couple days before we quarantined...the house and cars are sparkling. Kept me busy. Ironically, it's made in China too. We had bought a Craftsman sprayer and it blew after using it twice...

Yanno, someone said something about hubby having been a coal miner, and it got me thinking...he prolly brought home tons of bat based bacteria over that decade. They are everywhere in mines.

Wonder if that has anything to do with why we had such mild experiences with it??
And why he didn't even test positive despite the exposure??

"This survivor may have had Covid-19 twice

The 29-year-old lawyer from Macon, Georgia, was sick through Easter, before eventually clearing the coronavirus, developing antibodies and gradually building up his stamina again by early May.
He donated convalescent plasma on May 18 and received a letter two weeks later confirming that he was positive for coronavirus antibodies. A swab test around that time came back negative for the virus itself.
Life felt like it was returning to normal. He started jogging again and by late June, he felt confident enough to visit his family in South Carolina, where they played tennis and ventured out on a lake in a boat.

But then inexplicably he came down with Covid-19 symptoms again just before the Fourth of July.

He tested positive again
Josey's second round of Covid-19 rendered him almost entirely inactive for four weeks.
He and his internist aren't sure whether the virus was never fully defeated or whether he may have gotten reinfected, perhaps during his weekend trip to see his folks."

I will say most of the guys in this county have done coal mining at some point, and we and the counties around us still only have a about 5-6 hundred cases with minimal fatalities.

As for the re-infection stuff, there have only been a handful of actual recorded reinfections (per country). Odds of getting it again would then be in the 50,000 per infected range. I have a much better chance of being in an accident and being killed by medical malpractice than I do dying of reinfection.

Ironically, the day after I posted that a lot of people here have stopped wearing masks they cracked down on any businesses found to have people not wearing them with imposing fines and all.

Somebody in government watches this site pretty close, even if no one else does

PS. My cousin is fine, and now my other cousin and her fam have it this week. Different states, though.

I'd say it has a lot more to do with the exploding number of COVID-19 cases at your daughter's place of work, and probably elsewhere. Yanno, if you knew about all those new infections, so did the health department(s). Health department(s) look at the numbers of new infections pretty closely and adjust their recommendations to address them.
