Why would abolitionists want statues of slave-owners torn down? Such a difficult puzzle to solve. Andrew Jackson certainly has a colorful and delightful past which triggers abolitionists, a history where Jackson beat slaves, killed slaves, sold slaves, raped slaves, tortured slaves. Hell... I don't even know at this point how true anything I learned in history classes actually was. I've been saying for 15 years that if you look at a high school history text book 5 years after you were in high school it will make you feel like you're a visitor from another planet and you're learning somebody else's history. Add to that the fact that the History text books weighed about 20 lbs and were as big as three other class books combined yet in a given year you might have only been required to read 10% of it if you went to a halfway decent school. Most expensive and least used books overall.

I think that the school systems in America are specifically designed to make learning History the most boring possible experience that they can make it so kids grow up with an aversion to learning anything about it. The problem isn't the statues or lack thereof, but once again with our federalized school curriculum.

Let's not stop at statues. Let's do it to the money too.

I honestly could give two shits if there are not faces of people on my cash if it still buys me goods. Our money today has colors other than green on it, and is far closer to monopoly money than the paper we had when I was growing up. But taking off Benjamin Franklin to put Harriet Tubman on there is just going to further divide the country and piss a lot of people off for no good reason. Just take them all off and put a pretty bald eagle on it or something and call it a day.

No more statues. No more faces on money. No more idolatry. If you want to have statues and idolatry in your home or your church, by all means, it's private property.

But you know full well that just tearing down old statues isn't enough for them. Wishy already said it. She wants statues of Oprah Winfrey put up in their place. That is not helping anything or anybody even bringing it up, let alone carrying through with it.
