It starts working in a mother’s womb and it doesn’t stop working til you get elected to Congress.” ~Senator John Neely Kennedy That quote needs a little background. Sen. John Kennedy (R-LA) argues in favor of the Republican-backed financial rescue bill on the Senate floor and denounced Democrats for blocking the coronavirus stimulus package. Democrats are blocking because the GOP "rescue" bill has a $500 billion slush fund, with no strings attached, that Trump can give to whoever he pleases to promote his reelection. It is a very whimsical bill. No Democrat trusts Trump. Why doesn't the GOP just force the bill through the Senate? Since five GOP senators are now in isolation because they’ve either been diagnosed with Covid-19 or exposed to someone who did, the party margins in the upper chamber has shifted to 48-47. The change matters because it means that Republicans are in even greater need of Democratic support in order to pass what is shaping up to be a massive $1.8 trillion bill. To get through the Senate, the stimulus needs 60 votes. Previously, that meant convincing at least seven Democrats to back the legislation. Now, it means winning over at least 12. Right now, Republicans don’t even have more conservative Democrats on board. Democrats were unified in their opposition to the bill on Sunday. Somebody asked me if I thought that Trump could just make an executive order if Democrats blocked it for long enough. I imagine that he probably could. But there's no point in doing that right now. The optics for this look terrible for Democrats, and are only going to get worse if that money isn't in bank accounts on the 6th of next month. You and I know what's going on Second, because we know how to read. But that hardly matters. Do you imagine that millions of Democrats who are counting on that money are going to give two shits about "good intentions" when they don't have a check in their hands that Republicans are trying to get to them? All I've got to say to Nancy right now is good luck with that PR nightmare. Do Right, Be Right. :)

Quote:Originally posted by second: you should also remind voters of this fact: Democrats wanted guarantees that corporations who got money from a $500 billion pot would retain their workers, and objected to the fact that Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin would have broad discretion to parcel out $425 billion of the funds with little oversight. The CEOs could simply give themselves $500 billion in bonuses. Maybe the voters should know that?

Quote:Originally posted by second: Let's say that Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin parcels out $425 billion of the funds to CEOs. The CEOs kick back 10% to Trump for his reelection. In 2021 Trump can sign another bill parceling out even more money to CEOs as their reward for supporting him in 2020. No Democratic Senator is stupid enough to let Trump get away with that. If the voters cannot understand what Trump is doing, well, too bad for them, but Democratic Senators still aren't gonna fund Trump's reelection.

He's about one step away from saying Checkmate right now. Do Right, Be Right. :)Give it a few weeks. Then we will know who is smarter. If Trump wins this one, and gets silly Democratic Senators to provide funding for Trump's reelection in the Coronavirus bill, then we know in April 2020 that Trump will win in November with a certainty of 100%. And I'm usually right too. ;) Do Right, Be Right. :)There are two Coronavirus bills circulating. You can read both the D bill and the R bill here: www.motherjones.com/coronavirus-updates/2020/03/nancy-pelosi-just-released-her-own-coronavirus-bill-it-is-much-bigger-than-trumps/ 6ix, you only win this contest if the R bill passes, which can't happen unless 12 Democratic Senators vote for it, but any Democrat would be stupid to vote for it. The D bill is $2.5 trillion versus $1.8 trillion for the R bill, which spends $0.5 trillion for Trump's reelection. If voters are smart, they will prefer the $2.5 trillion bill because there is more money and all of it goes to voters, none to Trump or CEOs. Which is a better deal: the D bill gives you a $2,500 check? Or the R bill gives you a $1,300 check and Trump gets $500? Put out a bill that favors Corporations and Trump/Republicans and dare the Dems to oppose it. If they do Trump/Fox will say they are the villians and if they don't they will help Trump/The Rich/Republicans. So not about helping people who are pretty close to being out of money right about now.

How will they be able to recognize a local and small potatoes conman that does not have such a well documented record as Trump? They can't and that is why they get conned locally, beside being conned nationally.

That’s like saying, “Hey, honey, I went to the strip club, caught an STD, knocked up a stripper named Destynee, and got a second mortgage to bail her meth tweaker boyfriend out of jail… but at least I didn’t touch the kids’ college fund.” Trump’s gone from saying that the pandemic was contained to arguing that 200,000 deaths would be a success. https://washingtonmonthly.com/2020/03/30/for-trump-a-successful-response-to-covid-19-left-the-building-a-while-ago/ The Joss Whedon script for Serenity, where Wash lives, is Serenity-190pages.pdf at www.mediafire.com/folder/1uwh75oa407q8/Firefly

Quote:Sullivan said Indiana's 211 hotline went from receiving roughly 1,000 calls a day regarding mental health -- including suicidal ideation -- to 25,000 calls a day. And calls to Indiana's addiction hotlines went from an average of 20 a week to 20 a day. "For those with substance use disorder, this can be an especially scary time," Sullivan said. "They say that the opposite of addiction is not sobriety, but connection. And it's very easy to be disconnected right now." Hirt noted the extra challenges people are facing, like unemployment and homeschooling, and being confined to one home with family members for long periods of time. "So we know that that's going to get people irritated and aggravated," he said. "And one of the things we know alcohol does is it loosens inhibitions." Hirt said his biggest fear, particularly in homes that have weapons, is people combining alcohol with those frustrations and harming others.
