Goodbye, kind world (George Monbiot) - In common with all those generations which have contemplated catastrophe, we appear to be incapable of understanding what confronts us.

I've been saying this for almost 2 years now. I don't pay attention to anything Trump tweets or says because it's all a blizzard of bluster. It's his negotiating style. Unfortunately, he doesn't know when to leave a deal alone, which is why he's been called 'not agreement capable.' And Signy called it even before the election by characterizing him as a 'loose cannon'.

Trump shows voters his true colors

(CNN)President Donald Trump tried to explain his agitating approach to life, politics and the rest of the world in a flash of impatience during a blustery news conference in France.

"It's the way I negotiate. It's done me well over the years and it's doing even better for the country, I think," he said.

The rest can be found at the link, but after spending 10 minutes or so trying to outwit CNN's online formatting, I deleted it. You'll just have to go there.

At a news conference in Dubuque, Iowa on August 25, 2015, Trump said it would be "very easy" to see a 1,900-mile wall constructed along the southwest border.

In Central America, they heard Trump, mostly because he repeated himself continuously for 4 years. Central Americans I have talked to interpreted him as meaning the Southern border was open without that 1,900-mile wall. Eventually, those Central Americans I talked to would came north to find out for themselves. The surge in illegal aliens was all because of Trump's style of negotiating with Congress. He is kind of unaware of the unintended consequences of running his mouth.

One word definition of Trump: "Blowhard".

Trump chose instead to wage the bellicose daily combat that characterizes most days when he is at home in the White House and that has become the soundtrack of life in America.
Trump's base loves what he's doing

Trump made another notable comment in Biarritz.
"I don't do things for political reasons," he said in one of the least credible utterances of a presidency in which almost every decision seems calculated to please his most loyal voters.
After landing back in Washington on Tuesday night, Trump tweeted a highly produced campaign-style video showing him side-by-side with world leaders that suggested that he was at the center of events unifying the G7 -- even though in terms of policy and temperament he was often on the outside.
While Trump's behavior horrifies the East Coast establishment, his bull-in-a-china shop performance in France is the key to his appeal among the Trump base.
Upsetting leaders of states whom Trump thinks have long exploited US generosity and defense guarantees is just fine with the "Make America Great Again" fans who flock to his rallies. Trump's statement on climate change -- that he won't lose US wealth on "dreams, on windmills" -- was calculated to play to his blue-collar supporters in industrial Midwest swing states.
The President's "America First" policy in which the US wins and other states lose has proven to be an effective political strategy among voters who support the President.
Some conservative media, meanwhile, took at face value his comments on Monday morning that China had got in touch overnight for new talks -- playing into his claims of being a great dealmaker even though an objective analysis might find little support for such claims.
Trump's relentless attack on the media, including a tweet which claimed improbably that world leaders had asked him why reporters hated America, also plays well with his base. While he peddles obvious falsehoods -- for instance, over the reasons why Russia was thrown out of the G8 summit -- his long crusade against what he calls "fake news" means that his supporters are disposed to believe whatever he says.
How Trump isn't 'doing better' for America
Kosik: Some traders skeptical about China G7 phone call

But there were also signs in recent days that Trump's erratic methods are catching up with him.
His gyrations over China -- from fury to adopting a softly softly approach and buttering up Chinese President Xi Jinping -- have left his strategy on the trade war mired in confusion. Barring an unlikely climbdown by either side, there is no obvious way out of an escalation that could damage the world economy, hurt US consumers and prejudice Trump's reelection hopes.
Trump's unrestrained behavior also took the focus off some of the weekend successes that could benefit his 2020 campaign.
He agreed with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe that the two sides are close to a trade deal. While there are many details that are unclear about the scope of the pact, it would be a strong data point for him to trumpet on the campaign trail -- even if, like other Trump-era trade agreements, it fails to live up to his spin.
Trump's careful openness to a French effort to broker a meeting with Iranian President Hassan Rouhani could be spun as a potential sign of statesmanship and a payoff for his maximum pressure campaign and cool fears of war.
Yet the story of Trump's latest world trip concerned the apparent instability of his character, the coherence of his White House messaging and whether he was up to the job.
The President's habitual challenges to the truth may also be hurting his foreign policy.
CNN's Alison Kosik reported Monday that some traders on Wall Street doubted that any calls or communications had taken place between top US and Chinese officials as Trump claimed.
When the word of a communist Chinese government is trusted as much among such an audience as that of a pro-business Republican President, it's a sign of how Trump's reshaping of truth has cost him politically.
Foreign policy rarely decides elections. And Trump's performance at the G7 summit will be a distant memory in November 2020.
But his showing in France does help clarify the choice for those voters who are undecided about Trump and adds to a mountain of evidence about his character and fitness for office. Trump's unsteady performance was the latest example of his conduct that left him open to ridicule abroad. There was more ammunition for his critics on this score last week when he canceled a separate trip to Denmark because its prime minister would not sell Greenland to the US.
Democratic presidential candidates -- especially former Vice President Joe Biden -- are using such infringements of international etiquette to build their case that Trump is an embarrassment as America's outside face to the world and is therefore not fit for a second term.
"After three days of meetings in Biarritz, we have even more evidence of how President Trump's disastrous foreign policy has left the United States isolated while the world moves on without us," Biden said in a statement on Tuesday after observing a moratorium on criticism of the President while Trump was overseas.

"Rather than looking to America for vision, agenda setting, and leadership by example, our closest democratic allies sought to manage and mitigate the damage Trump might do at this year's G7," Biden said.
The former vice president said there was no more telling symbol of Trump's abdication of global leadership than the "empty chair" at the G7 climate talks.

This is what was at the link you had.
For future use, the practice I oft use to extract data from M$ apps:
Copy/paste the article or report - or Select/Move, Move/Block/Insert with good programs.
Then place into a Word Processing program, perhaps Word, Wordpad, Notebook, Onenote, Word Perfect, Word Star, etc.
Save As Text, in Text format ( or sometimes Rich Text.)
Shut down all programs open which have any copy of the text that you copied.
This was the step which should delete the formatting that gave you problems. If these were not shut down, then opening the document with this text group or file name will grab the troublesome formatting from whatever program was still open.
Open/launch a new instance of a Word Processing program - it can be one you just closed.
Open the Text File you just saved. It should pop up in simple uncluttered format. Due to some formatting, some groups or paragraphs may be out-of-sequence. You may need to re-arrange some of this, but the whole segments of text should be intact and easy to move, for reconstruction.
Then format the way you want.
Hope that helps.

Some versions of OS can still jump or hold the formatting across shutdowns. In this case, after shutting all WP programs, open one, then open the text file you had, add one character into the text, like a space, and then Save with a new name, like add or change a character of the name, and shut down all the word programs again. Then open up a program, and open the newly named file. The formatting should not have abeen able to make the jump across programs, file formats like TEXT, and changed file names.

Thanks !!! I got as far as text / paste but there were too many extra headers, sidebars, captions etc, and for some weird reason, it recopied entire sections and re-inserted them at random. All from scroll / reverse highlight / copy / paste into text. I ran out of patience.

Question: Every day Trump and his regime seem to do something unprecedented in modern American history. How do people become used to this malignant normality?

Answer: The origin of that phrase goes back to Robert Jay Lifton, who wrote the foreword to our book, as you know. He insisted on using that phrase and I thought it was a brilliant one. His foreword is centered around two themes. Eventually a malignant normality will set in where we will accept what is malignant as being normal. That is described as "a loss of insight." This happens when an individual or a group no longer sees what is wrong, destructive and pathological as abnormal but actually accept it as normal.

The second theme Dr. Lifton highlighted was our role as witnessing professionals. As mental health professionals we understand this phenomenon. We see this every day. We know what happens to patients when they lose their ability to have insight, when they can no longer see the abnormal as malignant and bad. The patients are delusional because they believe bad things are good for them. When this happens a patient succumbs to the disorder and starts being destructive.

Question: Donald Trump appears to be pure unrestrained id. He is driven by greed. Trump does not read and is proudly ignorant. He possesses no ideology. Beyond greed, how much of Trump's behavior is a function of his own desires and how much is because of manipulation by others?

Answer: Trump would have remained psychologically disordered as an individual, and therefore not doing much harm, if he had just remained a private citizen. As a real estate builder and a reality TV personality, Trump's power to do harm to society would be vastly limited. But because he rose to the level of president of the United States, this is why I and other health professionals have a medical obligation to speak publicly, to sound the alarm about this whole situation. Donald Trump is the center of vast levels of harm being done to a wide segment of society. This is a public health and public safety issue.

The health paradigm has no room for politics. This has nothing to do with politics. Our concerns are purely about public health and safety, and whether or not American society will choose a destructive route versus a life-affirming, constructive route. Disease by definition is destructive. What we are witnessing with Donald Trump's presidency are all signs of destruction. These symptoms are the dismantling of democracy, rampant corruption, thwarting the rule of law and even the loss of a shared sense of what reality actually is.

The ability to distinguish what is real from what is unreal is very important. With mental pathology, the afflicted person starts to see delusions and hallucinations as real. This mentally unwell person will actually do whatever they can to bulldoze over reality as it actually exists and the people who believe in it. This is why a sick, delusional person will force family members and those around them to abandon their own sense of reality and espouse the sick person's delusions and conspiracy theories.

This is what Donald Trump is doing to the United States and the American people. People who have their grounding in reality and rationality are now losing ground to him.

Does Sloppy Troll ever post anything truthful, honestly, factually?

Here it responded to a line from 1kiki talking about Libtard Web Software and contextually misquoting her to suggest she posted about Trump's issuences. But Sloppy Troll is the one who gets mindblown whenever reading something from Trump.
