I believe in solving problems, not sharing them.
Quote: Judge has gone into hiding...why!? He claims to know nothing, and Kavanaugh claims that he wasn't there - wherever there was. So, why not have the FBI investigate and clear his name once and for all. Nobody can lie to the FBI or suffer the consequences. And why, for that matter, doesn't Judge present himself at the hearing and back his friend's play? You know, to support his best bud. But no, he's hiding like a little bitch.
Quote: One more: Why don't the senators in the Judicial Committee request that the FBI investigate the allegations brought on by these women? What do they have to hide? What are they afraid of? Don't they want to clear his name?
Quote:No matter. Once the Dems take over after the mid-terms they will push for an investigation and testimony from the women.
Quote: If the charges have merit, they will push for impeachment of Kavanaugh. In the Judge Thomas case, Bush called for an investigation to clear his name and it took 4 days. There were 20 people called to testify, and that included people in support of Clarence Thomas. And as you know, Thomas found his way to the Supreme Court. Something is off.

Quote:Kavanaugh Mayhem: Two Men Cop To Feeling Christine Ford's Breasts, Contradicting Her Accusation The Senate Judiciary Committee on Wednesday night released a time of their efforts to responded to various accusations against Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh - including two men who say they they were the basis for the "groping" allegation.
Quote: And earlier Wednesday, another Kavanaugh accuser - Julie Swetnick, had an ominous cloud of doubt cast over her allegation that the Supreme Court nominee and a friend were operating a date-rape "gang bang" operation at 10 high school parties she attended as a legal adult three years older than Kavanaugh (yet didn't report once). Politico reports that Swetnick's ex-boyfriend, Richard Vinneccy - a registered Democrat, took out a restraining order against her, and says he has evidence that she's lying. "Right after I broke up with her, she was threatening my family, threatening my wife and threatening to do harm to my baby at that time," Vinneccy said in a telephone interview with POLITICO. "I know a lot about her." -Politico "I have a lot of facts, evidence, that what she’s saying is not true at all," he said. "I would rather speak to my attorney first before saying more."
Quote:60 of Kavanaugh's Classmates Send Letter to Senate about 'Nonsense' Gang Rape Allegation " ...In the extensive amount we collectively spent with Brett, we do no recall having ever met someone name Julie Swetnick. Nor did we ever observe Brett engaging in conduct resembling that described in Miss Swetnick's declaration..." PJM's Matt Margolis spoke to a woman who attended parties with students from Kavanaugh's high school. She disputed the gang rape allegations. Anyone who knew this woman in the 1980s should probably come forward now to help straighten out this mess.

Quote:Originally posted by SECOND: A poll from Morning Consult/Politico released Wednesday shows that only 49 percent of GOP women support Kavanaugh’s confirmation, and 15 percent oppose it. That’s a drop of 18 points in support from Republican women since last week. And overall, 37 percent of Americans oppose his confirmation; just 34 percent think it’s a good idea. That’s the point to remember. The allegations against Kavanaugh — and the recriminations they have elicited from Republicans who see him as unfairly maligned — may not affect his confirmation. But they will affect how his jurisprudence as a member of the Supreme Court is seen. Republicans may think that’s unfair. But if they want Americans to have confidence in the Supreme Court, they should take more care, in the future, to make sure that Americans can have confidence in their nominees. Brett Kavanaugh is one of its members, too. He joined back when he was in law school at Yale, and he’s been a member ever since. His name was among those submitted by the Federalist Society to Donald Trump when Anthony Kennedy resigned his seat on the court. The word that is used to describe the people on the Federalist Society’s list for the court is “vetted.” Everybody on that list was “vetted” by the Federalist Society to insure they would make the kind of Supreme Court justice they, and Trump, wanted. They’ve made no secret that they want a “conservative” on the court, describing someone who will vote the way they want him to vote. That means they wanted someone who will join the other four Republican appointees to the court and vote with the 5-4 conservative majority that has overturned so many long-settled areas of the law over the last decade. That’s our Brett, all right. He’s a made-man in the Federalist Society. But the problem is, he was vetted for his voting, but not for his sex life. The Federalist Society has among its members and former members Antonin Scalia, Edwin Meese, Clarence Thomas, Robert Bork, Orrin Hatch, Ted Cruz, Samuel Alito, and Kenneth Starr. I mean, just look at that cast of characters: the judges among them believe you don’t have a right to privacy under the Constitution, and neither do the Senators or Bork, who was rejected by the Senate for the Supreme Court in 1987 because his legal views were so extreme. They believe corporations are “people” with the right to spend as much as they want to influence American elections. They believe the Voting Rights Act did too much to protect the rights of voters, so they removed its key enforcement authority. And they’re all basically fine with the idea that wealthy, white men ought to be running things in this country, and everybody else ought to stay where they belong and shut up.

Quote:Originally posted by SECOND: Quote:Originally posted by 6IXSTRINGJACK: Consider my curiosity piqued, Second. Who would you suggest would make a better Supreme Court nomination for the people if you were in charge today and why?Merrick Garland. He has never been on the short list of the Federalist Society. He never had a mystery benefactor pay his mortgage on his multi-million dollar house. He never stated that a President cannot be indicted or subpoenaed. The 11 Republican members of the Senate Judiciary Committee signed a letter to Senate majority leader Mitch McConnell stating their refusal to even consider him. And Garland would not be defending himself by explaining he never blacked out after drinking, as Kavanaugh is doing on TV right now.
Quote:In 2007, Garland voted in favor of en banc review of the D.C. Circuit's panel decision in Parker v. District of Columbia invalidating the D.C. handgun ban, which the Supreme Court subsequently affirmed 5–4 in an opinion by Justice Scalia.[20] Goldstein commented, "Garland did not take a formal position on the merits of the case" and "even if he had concluded that the statute was constitutional, that view of the case would have conformed" to widespread views under then-existing Supreme Court precedent.[20] Trevor Burrus of the Cato Institute nonetheless wrote that libertarians and conservatives should be concerned about Garland's stance on gun rights.[60]

I only wish that his outlook and presentation of various other ideas was more in line with his process of arguing against Kavanaugh's appointment. I'm actually feeling the tiniest spark of remembrance of what the Democratic party was when GWB was president. More than seeing Second do this, I'd love for the Democratic party to do a complete 180 on its identity politics and other reactionary tactics and go back to what they were good at. I heard the part about Kavanaugh's diary/calendar on the radio whilst driving dear daughter to and from therapy. I take it from what I heard afterwards that Kavanaugh made a point of evading the question about an FBI investigation. I'm not really sure I understand the downside ... maybe the GOP thinks that it will turn into another witch hunt like the Mueller investigation? Or at least be delayed long enough to put the vote into November when Dems might have the Senate? Kavanaugh has spent his entire career aiming for this appointment. Second did none of those things here, so I see no reason not to at least hear him out. It's not as if I'm a huge fan of any Republican politicians out there. Chances are I wouldn't be a fan of his choice if I really knew a lot about him either, but TBH I have seen far worse. I could name a few that are on the Supreme Court right now that I'd rather see be replaced with Garland.
