I believe Obama wun hiz 1st term due to fear - voterz were fritened by the impending financial doomzday and realized they needed to pick the smart guy insted uv the safe but relatively dum guy.

But an alternate theory I'm toying with iz that each new prezident iz a backlash agenst the previous wun; that peepl hav a jeneral impression uv the prez, like if you asked them 'pick wun thing that definez this prezident', then they will pick the candidate who iz closest to being the oppozit uv that.

It seemz to hold up with the last 3. Bush - stupid, Obama - smart. Az we got to know Obama better, he became 'no drama Obama' - wize, level headed, careful, inhumanly tolerant. And now we hav Trump - drama queen to the max, unwize, unstable, careless, completely intolerant. And their personal historyz coud hardly be more oppozit.

It woud be interesting to see if this pattern holdz up further back.

Though I don't agree with you about the intelligence levels of Bush and Obama, I agree with the rest of what you said. Without going back and researching it, I'm sure that fear from one viewpoint or another is a large part of the pendulum swinging back and forth.

When one side only has it in their favor for 4 years they were either completely ineffective or made things worse. When they manage to have a 2 term president and follow that up with another president of the same party, that is either because their presidents were agreed by most to be pretty great or they were just lucky enough to be presiding over a good economy with little wars happening.

We're in desperate need of a legitimate 3rd party. Otherwise this will continue forever.

Do Right, Be Right. :)

Bearing in mind that sex scandals, drug use, past skeletons, or lack of experience means nothing anymore, the next President will certainly be a celebrity with an enormous fan base who wants the job, a popularity contest pure and simple. My Top Ten likely for next President are:

1.Oprah
2.Madonna
3.Beyonce
4.Whoopie
5.DeNiro
6.Jenna (Jameson)
7.Stallone
8.Springsteen
9.Caitlin (Jenner)
10.Angelina (Jolie)

And they'd do just fine, as good or better than any in the previous few decades.
