MALICIOUS

I think am going to have one of those "In Loving Memory Of" decals put on my car in Wash's honor.

Would anyone care to share a favorite memory or story about their time with Wash? Please feel free to step up to the pulpit and tell us all.

I loved the post-lovemaking scene in OIS. "Here lies Zoe, my autumn flower, somewhat less attractive now that she's all corpsified and gross..."

I cannot believe how upset I am about a freakin' fictional character! I need help.

Oh, and any Shepherd Book memorials can be said here as well.

Mal-licious

I'm going to add cursing and the hurling about of things to my repertoire.

I only accepted his death during the funeral scene, but beforehand I was imagining Wash somehow saving everyone with a completly broken Serenity. Yes delusional, I know.

But really, that ruined the movie for me the first time, but I have learned to accept it, and go through the 12 steps of grievance, or whatever.

Did anyone else hope that Zoe would give this speech during the funeral

ZOE: Here lies my beloved Wash, a lot more gross now since he's all corpsified and gross.

Everyone looks at her in disbelief.

Zoe: What? It's what he would have wanted.

Everyone gives a nod of agreeance.

How true, how true.

I'd also like to think that Badger, YoSaffBrig, Monty, and maybe even Niska would stop by to offer their condolences as well.

While the funeral word of "considerably more gross" would have been funny, I think it would have also been a bit out of tone for that scene. Maybe if it was a new character or something but for Wash, he's been with the crew too long. Also wasn't Badger killed? The Alliance killed Fanty and Mingo and all employers or people who had sheltered Serenity. Wasn't that Badger's face on one of the vids?

KIZYR

At dinner after the movie, me and my friends proposed a toast to Book and Wash.

Book was my favorite, and one of my friends, her favorite wavered between Book and Zoe. That she was so fond of Zoe made it just as hard, since Wash was the only one who managed to really get her to open up and show a more human, more emotional side. Now that he's gone, she'll likely revert back to emotionless... only way to deal with that kind of loss for her. KF

ZOE: Preacher, don’t the Bible have some pretty specific things to say about killing?
BOOK: Quite specific. It is, however, somewhat fuzzier on the subject of kneecaps...

I had the demented urge to add Hoban Washburne and Shepherd Book to the "prayers for the dead" list , at church the Sunday after I saw the film...

I did it mentally, anyway.

Joss posted this on the OB

Post subject: Worst. Movie. Ever.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

was probably "Summer Holiday" with Mickey Rooney. Can you believe that kid was the biggest star in the world? Funny world.

Meanwhile, I'm just rounding out the weekend with a little praise for my dear peeps. Considering everything we've had to overcome, this is an extraordinary achievment. And you guys have been in the front lines. I lurk, I know all. So thanks. Some of you might know that this flick means more than a little to me.

Yes, the second weekend will tell all, as we've always known. I'm not here to push you guys -- you push yourselves way harder than I could anyway. I'm just trying to figure out how to get the message out to the guys that aren't you, that don't know any of you, and that don't run into someone who saw the film. I'll be hounding the extremely patient Uni execs on that very subject. Like the lady said, "People have to know".

It's not that there HAS to be a sequel. It's just that I've got so many IDEAS...

the only reason i knew about firefly was i loved buffy and the reason i loved it was Wash so that really hit me, i also couldnt stop hopeing some how he really didnt die, and i only accepted after the funeral i think i might of cried at that point. but even then i was still delusional for days i hoped that, hey they brought buffy back and spike and, heck no one stayed dead for long on joss's other shows. but now i know that this is different this is much better and more real then Buffy ever could be so now to all the people here i finally admit it...he is dead.
Farewell beloved Wash i will miss you (my family thinks i am crazy at this point mourning so much for a fictional charector but... it is so sad)also
to Shepard Book i will miss you i am more then a little ticked about the death of the only christian on the show.
....that would have been great to put that quote in at washes funeral

Does anyone know if Alan Tudyk just wasnt keen to signing on for a sequel, or if Joss just killed him off for the shock of it.

And it was shocking. I cried like an idiot.

I was just wondering if anyone had heard anything on this...

lastunicorn,

I have no idea where to get them! I just see people driving around with "In loving memory of...." decals on their rear windshields. They have the birth and death dates on there, too, like a mobile headstone. I always thought it was kind of creepy, but I'd get one for Hoban Washburn in a heartbeat.

Do you know if he just didnt want to sign on for a sequel? I feel I need an answer so I can mourn properly.

(wow. this much over a fictional character. possible that i need couch time.)

Pssst! That scene was from Shindig...

OK, so last year we were at one of those stores where you can custom-design stuffed animals, and my daughter made a cat dressed up like a doctor (she was about to into the hospital for a kidney procedure) and I made a WashBear! He has tousled reddish-blonde fur, and I got him some little khaki pants and a Hawaiian shirt.

This year...I've planned since before the movie got moved from April to bring him along to my first viewing, just as a fun fan thing (and me, over 50...that's really geeky!). Then I went ahead and read the spoilers...but I still took WashBear along, as a tribute. *sniff* Poor thing got hugged very hard.

My understanding is that all principal actors, including Alan Tudyk, are signed for three films if there are three films.

I have also heard that Wash's death was Alan's idea. He does have more work than most of the rest of the cast so that is certainly a consideration. His availability may be limited.

Firstly, I can't look at my car again. I had named him Wash when I first got him (late April 05). Now as I say, "Sorry Wash dear" if I turn his wheel too sharply, I must say damn it b/c the only other character who can make me laugh besides Jayne is gone.

I do need a decal. Like 'I'm a Leaf on the wind' or 'Forever Wash' or hell Serenity herself.

Also, I think my brain kind of hinted of how Wash would go. In my dream the day before the 30th the firefly gang landed safely to a nesrby planet with everybody ok. Mal was flying though. This was about the end of the movie

Looking back, my I think my mind knew the end of the movie before I did.

I'm amazed that I'm more upset over Wash's demise than Book's. :/

Well, while Wash was undoubtedly a great character, I was just as sorry to see Book go. I had counted on the mysteries of his life to be the focus of "Serenity II: In Search of Book's Past."

You can get the decals over at cafepress.com
Just type in serenity (or firefly) for lots of merchandise.
I have ordered a tote bag with which has "curse your sudden but inevitable betrayal" on it with added dinosaurs of course.

I like to think that because he was already dead and they were busy chasing after live flesh that they left him alone long enough for our crew to get back to him. There is a really great fan fic over at the 'afterserenity' livejournal. It's called "Final" and it's by Rinalin (who I hope wont mind that I'm posting about this fic) and it is one of my very favorite post BDM fics to date. I highly recomend this comunity, you have to join to view the entries though. You should check it out. :)

Greetings&Felecitations:

With the medical technologies available so far in the future, (remember Simon re-attaching Mal's ear in Shindig, or River's initial appearance in the pilot?)I would have thought that at the least, Shepard Book would have been revived... Wash might have been more probmatic, but still possible.
Perhaps we will see the mystery behind Shepard Books past with the re-appearnce of the Alliance agent as a shepard and coming aboard. Of course I see Orlando Jones more as a new shepard than most other people. He did a good role in the latest remake of "The Time Machine".
I will miss Wash because of the uniqueness he (Alan)brought to the role. Book for much the same reasons, though from the sound of it, scifi wasn't Ron Glass' idea of a role for a lengthy period of time. A cool twist would be to get Lawrence Fishburne to join the movie and Zoe fall for him. A real life connection might be an interesting intersection.
In any case I will miss both characters and look forward to whom will replace them in the cast.
Angmar/LNA
Those who've seen combat know at some level the why's of such bondings.

Look at all the love the best gorram pilot in the 'verse has garnered! Yeah, I could only tolerate the BDM twice due to the throes of grief following his last ever utterance of "I'm a leaf on the wind..." That gou tsao de Joss Whedon had peeved me off considerable. And while we're on topic about cursing in Mandarin, chew on this, friends: Wash was the BEST, hands-down, at Mandarin profanity. No other character threw down the filthy verbiage like our friend, Zoe's husband. Who's with me on that?
