Oops. Sorry 'bout that
Monday, October 25, 2004

For anyone who took a course in engineering vibrations this is a very familiar picture. I was playing around with the idea that Wash wasn't paying too much attention to where he was going one day and the results speak for themselves. It definitely didn't come out quite the way I envisioned it, but I think it gets the point across.

TENTHCREWMEMBER

I see what you were going for. Very creative and funny!

WASH: "Likey crash and kill us all."
MAL: "Well, let me know if that happens."

** Today in 'News from the Border', we have footage of an unmarked Firefly transport as it barrels through the Rance Burgess Memorial Bridge. Official death toll is 2. The other 87 citizens were not officials. The Central Autority has declared it a disaster site and will rebuild the bridge as soon as it levies a new "Reconstruction Tax" on the locals... **

Inquiring minds want to know---did the dog escape safely?

ZNACHKI - I guess that REAL inquiring minds want to know how many other Browncoats will get your reference.

Driving over the replacement span regularly as I do, that image is always on my mind...

Thanks everyone for the kind comments. TenthCrewMember, GREAT stuff!! Znachki, unfortunately Tubby was the only casualty when the Tacoma Narrows bridge collapsed. That's the saddest part of the films of the event (at least for me - there's probably a commentary on my skewed value system in there somewhere). For more details on Tubby, you can read http://www.wsdot.wa.gov/TNBhistory/tubby.htm
Thanks, Bojesphob, I've been really enjoying your series on Serenity over various US cities. ShinyDude, the few times I've driven over the replacement bridge that's always in the forefront of my mind (had some friends in Tacoma and Federal Way years ago and spent some time in the area - after seeing the bridge collapse and studying it in undergrad I just had to drive over it whenever I got within five miles).

AnguaLupin, Jayne would definitely do it on purpose.

A further clarification (after re-reading my recent post) , I didn't actually see the bridge collapse...I've just seen the footage of the collapse numerous times. Just clearing up some ambiguity...

Yeah Soup - I know about poor old Tubby. But if he hadn't tried to bite his rescuer, he'd have made it out.

Lifelong Tacoma resident here - so grew up hearing all the stories. My fourth grade teacher used to drive the bridge daily, and IIRC, just missed being on it. She said it used to be a wild ride crossing it when the wind was blowing.

Wow, Znachki. Your teacher sounds like she was very fortunate. I had totally forgotten about the dog until you brought it up so it was cool to actually find that web page and learn about Tubby. What I want to know is what the reporter was thinking when he brought his dog along.

This is just a companion to my latest blog entry. It's a screen cap of Haken's site that was the direct ancestor of this one (courtest of the http://www.archive.org wayback machine).

Oh, mon dieu! La main de bleu.
There were several failed attempts by the creators of the Blue Hands. I was amazed to stumble across one of the earliest. This little-known portrait shows exactly what Napolean was hiding underneath his clothes. Some of the lessons learned from this early experiment were that it was necessary for both hands to be covered, the person should not be a prominent leader, it was better to have people working in pairs, and "two by two, hands of blue" was a much cooler slogan. (Apologies to anyone fluent in French for what I am sure is a very bad attempt at a rhyme).

Those ancient Egyptians thought of everything
I was just looking through pictures of the excavation of King Tut's tomb and I noticed something I hadn't seen before. There are three very familiar looking artifacts in the antechamber. After doing some computer enhancement I verified my suspicions. Looks like the catalyzer was a lot more important than most people (Mal included) thought.

Weird So Cal sighting
Okay. I was bored. And inspired by the image Bojesphob made of Serenity flying over Chicago. As far as quality...it's been really, really, really long time since I did anything in Photoshop. It probably shows...
