SURVIVAL:chapter 1
Thursday, June 7, 2007

When Wash, Simon, Jayne, and relitively new crewman Steve Roberts go on a job, they get more than they bargained for. Alot more.

Sitting in the cargo bay of the firefly class transport, Steve Roberts was putting a razor edge on one of his many knives. This particular knife was a combat knife/boot knife with a double sided, five inch long, spear point blade. The lower half of one side of the blade was serrated and the handle was an oval shape that allowed for the knife to be held with the serrated section facing either way, making it highly versatile. When he had finished sharpening the knife, he put it back in its sheath, concealing it in his hiking boot, and checked the load in his handgun. It was a unique weapon, the only one of its kind. It had bean constructed by combining parts of obsolete or run-of-the-mill guns with slightly modified pieces of others, and some components he had machined from scratch. It had a 7-½ inch long octagonal barrel and Satisfied that the weapon would function if there was any shooting he returned it to his holster, grabbed the dark green backpack at his feet, checked to make sure the knife at his hip was secure, and started walking on the direction of the other three people in the cargo bay. “You comin’ too Doc?” he asked as he approached the group. Simon Tam, the ships medic, usually stayed on the ship during jobs, but this time he decided that the trip would do him good. “Yes, Steve, I decided to leave the ship for once.” “There could be shooting.” “Which is why were taking the medic.” Jayne Commented. Steve produced a box from his backpack, handed it to Simon and remarked “Which is why I’m giving him a gun.” Simon opened the box, revealing a Springfield XD, .40 caliber, and two knifes. One was similar to the one Roberts had been sharpening except without the serrated edge. The other was a much larger knife, a custom made Aitor Jungle King II. This JKII was 6 and ½ inches long instead of the regular 5 and 1/3 inches. Other than that, it was exactly the same, from the hollow handle that could be used to store survival gear, to the double sided, partially serrated blade. As for the gun, Roberts had been giving Simon shooting lessons and they seamed to be paying off. He knew Simon liked the XD, one of the few autoloaders that Roberts owned, and he was happy to give it, along with the knives, to the young doctor. “There’s two magazines in the box and another one already in the gun.” Roberts explained. “Wash, take the helm, Jayne and I will take care of the cargo.” In this case the cargo was medicine. They had been hired by a small town sheriff to retrieve some stolen medicine that was needed to treat a large population of the settlement. Serenity was too big to go unnoticed and there was always the possibility that the original thieves would show up. It had been decided that one of the small shuttles would be better to deliver the medicine. Everyone had a role to play on this mission. Wash would fly the shuttle, Simon would help prescribe the meds, Roberts and Jayne would do the heavy lifting and be trouble shooters. If anyone caused any trouble, they would shoot him. Jayne and Roberts loaded the shuttle and gave Wash the green light for takeoff. They reached the town easily enough, distributed the medication and radioed the Captain telling him everything was going smooth, they had no idea just how far from the truth that would be.

Chapter 2 coming soon. it will be bigger(mabey) better(hopefully) and be more actiony(probably)

Sorry that chapter one is both long and boring, but without the background information it wouldn't make much sense. You probably noticed some writing style changes from paragraph to paragraph, thats becouse I started this over a year ago, so ive grown as a writer, and hopefully later chapters will flow better and be much more entertaining
