Mal

I finally attempted Mal. It's not perfect, but I'm still pretty happy with it. Based on another promo photo, painted by hand in paint shop pro 9.

I like it. You have a cool style going here, and it's pretty easy to see that it's Mal - especially those eyes. Oh, and all of your other ones were pretty good, too. :)

KAYNA

Wow. This is lovely.

You're right, it's not perfect but niether were any of my pastels. I think his mouth looks more like it belongs on a straight on shot than a three quarter view you've got on his nose. And his eyebrows look just a litte bit too solid. It's still pretty amazing though.

These are just nitpicky details. I've spent way too much time studying this man's face.

Only detracting factor I can find is the skin tone. Seems too waxy and mannequin-like in shade, when Mal/Nathan's skin tone is a lot more diverse and roughened. Still...this is all kinds of shiny work, Shadesiren!

OTHER ARTWORKS BY ARTIST

The Fanbag
I bought this little kit to "decorate your own messenger bag" - well, of course, I had to print out my own sheet of extra iron-ons, so I ended up with several firefly references, including quotes, the outline Serenity patch (upper right corner) and blue sun logo (on the strap). Was a really fun project! Can't wait to try and make a nicer one - this was kinda practice, but it fits my art stuff (my sketchbook and pencil case) so I'll still be using it till the nicer one is made.

Cap'n Dicey Morgan
Did a painting of Dicey Morgan, captain of the Oberon (http://www.OberonRPG.com). Her skin tone is off, and it's messed up her eyes, but aside from that, I'm pretty happy with the rest. First one with a body. Hand Painted in PSP 9.

Mal and Inara
Painting version of one of my favorite Mal & Inara pictures. Based on the Promotional photo, a painting of the lovebirds.

Mal
I finally attempted Mal. It's not perfect, but I'm still pretty happy with it. Based on another promo photo, painted by hand in paint shop pro 9.

Simon
Was debating on doing either Jayne or Zoe next, so I settled on Simon. :P
as always, I love the comments, you guys have been a lot of help - should have the re-finished Kaylee up tonight!

Wash
I decided to try a guy - since Mal's big beautiful nose intimidates me still (it's kinda bumpy), anyway, I decided to try Wash. I've always had a real hard time drawing men that look like men (let's just say I drew a lot of male "elves' - to explain away the girliness lol). I'm happy to say Wash doesn't look girly in this.. although, his lips are kinda pink... :P Another hand-painted in PSP 9, with a wacom art tablet (or else I'd never even attempt this!).

Kaylee
based on a favorite pic of Kaylee. I had a hard time with her skin - the tones weren't dramatic, and it was hard to get any definition with such similar colors. I so need to take a class on this stuff, lol. Another all hand-done digital painting, done in PSP 9.

Inara Portrait
Based on a promotional photo of Morena Baccarin - much better results than my previous effort. Hand painted in PSP 9 with Wacom tablet. Comments and criticisms welcome!

Female - Portrait of Inara
I did this based on a screencapture of Inara in Serenity TM, after Mal tells her "Good answer". I loved that look, that smile. I can't say I'm one hundred percent thrilled with the results, but as a first try at something like THIS, I'm pretty pleased, overall.
