Kaylee held her stomach and tried to keep from retching everywhere. It didn’t make sense a body could be so hungry it felt like throwing up, but that was exactly what Kaylee felt like. She needed to make it to the kitchen and find something to eat. “Hello?!” she called out to the darkened ship. It must have been late for all the lights to be dim. Where was everyone? Usually there was at least one other person up, Zoe walking around the bridge or Jayne up cleaning his guns. It was unnatural to have it this quiet.

Clutching her stomach, Kaylee slowly made her way towards the galley. Her focus was hazy, but that was probably just the hunger. “Cap’n?” she called out again, trying to listen for Mal. There was no sound. Maybe everyone was asleep, it was very late. Why was she so hungry though? Her mind tried to register the last time she ate but no clear thoughts seemed to make it through the haze.

Kaylee reached the kitchen after a few moments. It was dark, but she could see well enough. She slowly headed towards the cabinets. Kaylee pulled the first one open and froze when it was completely bare. Her hands went to the next and then the next, but they were all empty. She dropped down and began to search the food lockers, but every single one was empty.

“Jayne! Simon! Someone!” she called, doubling over in pain as her stomach felt like it was on fire. There were whispers around her head but when Kaylee tried to discover where they were coming from there was no one there. “River?” she asked meekly.

“Wake her up,” a disembodied voice demanded. The room began to spin; Kaylee had to close her eyes to block out the swirling colors around her. She reached out for the counter to steady herself, but found her limbs wouldn’t cooperate--she couldn’t move. Kaylee’s eyes flung open at the revelation, but she was no longer in the galley. No…the walls were all white, everything was almost too bright to stand. The gnawing in her stomach hadn’t gone away, but the fog in her mind seemed to have increased.

“Where…?” her voice trailed off when she noticed two men staring at her. They both wore dark black lab coats that completely contrasted the room. Her eyes couldn’t help but focus on them. Kaylee shifted uncomfortably, but found she still couldn’t move, something was holding her back. Looking down at herself, she gasped. Leather straps bound her arms, feet and mid section to a steel chair. She pulled against them with as much effort as she could muster, which wasn’t much. “Oh god,” she whispered, her eyes welling with tears.

“She’s still weak; they have been withholding food since we captured her. Of course if we want her alive for more questioning they will eventually have to feed her,” one of the men said.

“Please, let me go,” Kaylee demanded. Her voice was barley above a hoarse whisper. Both men nodded to themselves and one stepped forward, smiling pleasantly at her.

“We’ve been over this, Kaylee,” the man said, his voice too sweet to be believable. “All you have to do is answer one question. Can you do that?” he asked. She didn’t respond and the smile slipped from the man’s face.

“Kaylee,” he continued. “Where are River and Simon Tam?”

Interesting start. Real short tho'. But I assume that is just because you wanted to tease the readers?

Nice way to describe how Kaylee is feeling while she is unconscious and dreaming she is still on the ship.

And just what will be Kaylee's answer?
