Book on Mal
Saturday, May 27, 2006

Typed up all those short lil things. This is after the series and before the film.

CATEGORY: FICTION    TIMES READ: 1873    RATING: 9    SERIES: FIREFLY

He doesn’t really blame God. That is just a pretense. Blaming God gives him some vague form of release. Because he really blames himself. For everything. Before Serenity Valley he was an openly God-fearing man. After the tragic loss, Malcolm Reynolds became simply afraid.

He joined the Independents with high hopes. Those hopes slowly eroded over the years. What Mal fears most is his own hopeless helplessness. He found that things are out of his control. Perhaps out of everyone's control. He stood in shock during the final battle of the war. It was in that moment that he realized that nothing he did really mattered. He could do nothing to change anything. It wasn’t until later that he realized that the Alliance was not in control either. They were (and still are) a mess just as the Independents were. But he is wrong to think he can't do anything that mattered. He took into his protection two young fugitives. It is unclear to me exactly why he decided to keep them aboard Serenity. But he did. He also added an old man to his crew. An honorary member to be sure, but Mal cared for him nonetheless.

It is because I can see this in him that I left the ship. He was thriving. Become more sure of himself as a person who can change things. I didn’t want to be in his way. And it's not as if I don’t see him. Serenity visits Haven often enough. It is good to see them all again. It is good to see Mal, the Mal who is not despairing, but still pretending to blame God.

Can definitely see Book musing on this. Mal's a God-fearing man facing his first good case of doubt and loss of spirtual innocence....

This fits and actually gives a brighter reason for the Shepherd leaving to settle on Haven. In the comics you are led to believe he wants to go before he hates the Captain. This is shinier, Ali D :~)

Memories of Snow
I never state the name, but it's an easy guess. It came to me after watching The Message. He talks about the dreams he had of his parents.

Momentum Chapter Three
Long-awaited continuation of a (still) unfinished tale. Wash centric. Read the first two chapters here: http://www.fireflyfans.net/bluesun.aspx?bid=10333 and here: http://www.fireflyfans.net/bluesun.aspx?bid=10354

Artist
A really short ficlet. Jayne's POV. (I'm writing again! Actually, I've just typed up some things I wrote during class last semester. I've a few more at http://www.fanfiction.net/u/652052/)

Betrayal
Mal's thoughts at Serenity Valley. Who's he most angry at, the Alliance or the Independents?

Smell
Inara reflects on the smell of Mal's browncoat. Very short, possibly will be continued.

Rocket
Wash-sadness. Zoe POV. I can't let the deathfic go.

Stranger
Watched the BDM. Got ideas. Wrote for the first time in a god bit. Mal, River, during the BDM.

Trip Wire
I watched the BDM today. This is a scene from it. Zoe's pov, dialogue from the script.

Stream
Yay! I wrote again. First in a long time. I think I wrote this from Kaylee's perspective, at least in Kaylee vernacular, but I'm not really sure why. I know it's short and prolly not very Kaylee, but I wrote. I also don't really know what it's about. Comment as you like.

The Chair (round 2)
Conpanion piece to my last post. Rive stream of consciousness. More post BDM Wash missing.
