The Road to Zion
Thursday, June 11, 2009

Heading to my own personal idea of heaven for the weekend, which coincidentally IS named Zion. And it's a century old this year!

Super excited! It's my favourite place on earth to go (not that I've been everywhere on earth). Not only is it gorgeous, it's one of the best managed national parks in the whole United States, in that they've got this world class extra convenient shuttle system that can take you to all the trailheads. You just park your car at your hotel and hop on, no fuss, no fighting the other tourists for parking spaces, just relaxation and recreation and rugged natural beauty in the backcountry for four days.

Utah's gotten a lot of rain this year, so it's going to be very green, lots of wildflowers, and this weekend is supposed to be in the 70s, sunny, just about perfect.

And it's a five hour car ride, which actually I'm looking forward to as well, because I plan to write like a crazed demon. (Got two pages of the new chapter so far, for anyone maybe looking for that update. <_<)

I'm not finished with school until the 22nd - my last day with my children is the 18th, I have a reading workshop on the 19th, then back to school to finish closing up my classroom on the 22nd. But I am working on 2 little stories (one's a standalone, the other is a semi-standalone) and trying to think about 2 more. I'm hoping the inspiration fairy that recently visited 2x2 will wing her way south to me. I'm looking forward to more time to write during the summer :)

I've only ever done the riverside walk than the Narrows proper, robably do it again since my Grandma will be with us.

But I did do this 15 mile loops up to the west rim and back down one day that was pretty great.

Hopefully I'll have something to post when I get back. Or maybe beta. It occurs to me my last effort might have been better if I hadn't jumped the gun and had it Beta'd first.

Lucky gal! I've done the Narrows in the late spring, it's incredible... the water is sometimes up to your neck, and once in April we had snow!

So have fun, but do write:)

Well, two pages isn't that much. Really it just means I've finished the first shortest section of three. But, the ball's rolling, and extra time is about all I really need to get it to come together and get it down.

I hear you got some things in the works too...? School year's over, isn't it?
