...more than I am right now

It started yesterday when I spent 4 hours in doctors offices because of a shoulder injury. I started at the orthopedic office and ended up getting an MRI where they injected ink into my shoulder... It's very possible that I would have to get surgery over my winter break and it would leave me unable to drive for a month and pretty much in a sling...

I'm scared

HUGS and hang in there. Even if the worst happens, it will be ok. Let us know what the doctor says ok..and don't panic!

GOHM

I had my shoulder scoped (frayed rotator cuff) about a year ago, and it was the easiest surgery (seven all told) and rehab I've had. Unlike lower body (e.g. knee) surgeries, you're still mobile post-op and you can still take care of yourself. Be sure and take rehab seriously, focus on regaining flexibility and maintain a positive outlook.

Incidentally, the Nietzsche quote is not only often misinterpreted, but also pretty sketchy wisdom considering the source. Old Friedrich meant that meeting struggles and challenges would strengthen one's character. It doesn't mean bodily harm. Leprosy might not kill us, but it most certainly won't strengthen us physically and I doubt that my moral fiber will be better for it.

Friedrich was a brilliant writer and offered many interesting, challenging ideas, but he was an hypochondriac and a physical wreck.

Anyway...be strong and good luck with the surgery. Shame Dr. Tam was an orthopedic surgeon.

The guy who said 'That which does not kill us makes us strong' was very wise and very correct. I hope everything works out well. :)
