I'm feeling kinda... I don't know what to say. I'll try to get one more viewing in, but it seems being on the right side isn't being on the winning side. Again.

Thanks folks. It was a fun ride.

I haven't made a proper intro yet (Hi)
but the good thing about Wonder Woman is, it puts money in Josses pocket. I would like to think whatever shortcomings he gets from Universal he will put his own money into the sequel which, has been said here and there, that they're signed to have a trilogy anyway.

My concern is the series, and as relieving as it is that the cast is so dedicated to Firefly, none of us are getting any younger!

It'd be nice if Fox took it back, I'd think it's a better budget and viewers than a cable network (minus HBO/Cinemax) but I could be wrong. But Fox has so much dedicated crap to air ie reality shows, though I'm sure there's some decent detective like show that could get canceled (like Bones)
Only reason I'm saying Fox is because it would be the 2nd time they could redeem respectability from viewers from faulty marketing from the 1st time round (Family Guy)
Hbo would be a dream to have it on but that's a little too much I think, well, it'd be a miracle.

---------------

I saw Serenity early last week and instantly found lo-quality episodes, watched them in a few days and bought the DVD Series a couple days ago. It has a very big warm special place in my heart. It's amazing the cast is so dedicated to sticking with it, and the fan base, just for one unknown season!
Why?
I'd like to think there's something bigger than us, and it's Firefly

EMBERS

It is never over. I hope 'Serenity' will continue to find some new fans has it hangs on in a few theaters in the US, and opens in new theaters around the world (fans who will discover 'Firefly'). But even when 'Serenity' leaves all the theaters, we'll have the DVD set with yummy extras, we'll have more comic books, and eventually we WILL get out sequel.
I wouldn't say thanks and fairwell yet, we ain't dead yet.

QUICKSAND

Two things: First of all, also check the numbers for "The Transporter." This is another movie that got a sequel thanks to great DVD sales. Also, the Serenity DVD will be cheaper than the box set, so more people will buy it.

Two (and this might get wordy):

Let me tell you about a guy named David Fincher. He's a director. You may have heard of his film "Fight Club," which made about $30 million at the box office, but sold HUGE on DVD. Fincher became a household name among cinephiles. His next movie, Panic Room, got medicore reviews, but the general public was so in love with his style, it still made close to $100 million at the theater (or surpassed it, I don't remember).

The thing to remember is this: Fincher's first film was "Alien3." Not only did no one see it, but it wasn't very good anyway. But he, like Joss, has loads of talent. And Fincher's 2nd movie, "Seven," made $100 million, and this was in paltry 1995 dollars. Now everyone loves Fincher. He can make ANYthing. He chose to make "The Game," which I thought was awesome, but tanked. THen he made Fight Club, etc etc, the rest is history.

My point? Joss's next movie is 'Wonder Woman.' WHEN that makes $100 million, Joss can do anything. I'm not saying Serenity 2 will be his 'The Game,' but I can certainly pretend that it will be for up to 4 years, and none of you can talk me out of it.

That's all I had to say, resume box office math.

SONOFDORK

Production Budget: $39 million
Global Prints/Advertising/Marketing/etc: (unknown), possibly $20 million, likely more.

Estimated US Total Gross: $26 million
Estimated 'rest of world' Gross: $25 million

Universal's box office take: $25 million
US TV Sale: $4.5 million
Global Licensing Deals profits worldwide (books/action figures/merchandise etc): $5 million
Global tv sales: $5 million

DVD Sales. Consider that a film like AlienVsPredator sold 1.8 million units on its first day and The Punisher shifted over 2 million in its first month.

Estimated Global dvd sales: 3.5 million units + rental returns: At a typical studio take of $10 per dvd sold (regardless of how much walmart etc sell it): $35-40 million

Re-release on blu-ray/hd 2 years down the line = more revenue.

Punisher 2 was greenlit with great dvd sales. I expect if universal shift 3+ million dvd's worldwide they'd consider a sequel.

STAKETHELURK

It ain’t over yet. The box office in the US is done (more or less), but that still leaves DVDs. We do a good showing on DVDs, that might we convince Universal there’s enough of an audience to make some kind of continuation profitable.

However, a good showing on DVD means doing much better than “Firefly.” We need to outsell “Firefly” by a factor of three at least, no mean feat. But it can be done. So we need to keep working. Convert as many people as you can between now and the DVD release. Post guerrilla marketing, first for “Firefly” (to get more converts) and then for Serenity (when it comes out). And of course, buying boatloads of the DVDs when they come out (they make great Christmas gifts).

So, now is not the time to lay down arms. We need to keep working, keep spreading the word. We’ve done the impossible before, so let’s just do it again.

ITSAWASH

You mean, since the BDM ain't breaking 40 mill, we get no mo? Maybe not, dear browncoat. Maybe we'll get more of the series, how's that sound? Sounds pert dang shiny to me. Plus, don't they still have to tally up the world-wide take? A chatter in Sweden said his country don't even GET the film imported till around Nov. 4th. So there's time. I'm not counting my chickens before they don't hatch. Say it with me, "I DO believe in Firefly, I DO believe in Firefly!" Can't hurt.
