MATCHING SCARS

Friday, February 4, 2005 7:58:24 AM

Or, not really. ;-D

Last Tuesday (Jan. 25th), I had surgery to remove bits that had built-up scar tissue (leftovers from chronic appendicitis when I was 15 and an accident I was in when I was 20) and were causing me some amount of pain.

When one's father is a veterinarian, one tends to think of such surgery as "spaying." The discussion I posted in my last log entry actually occurred. My dad is always thinking of ways to save me money by offering to do something or other himself. Whether it involves a sewing machine and baling twine, or kitchen-table surgery, it's all the same to him. Since he actually had to spend just as much time in school and internships as a doctor for humans does, he feels more than qualified to take on these tasks.

Veterinary medicine and the regular kind intersect on many levels.

Currently, I'm trying to recover from having skin, muscle, connective tissue, and organs sliced through. I have a nice incision, which makes my horrible appendectomy scar look like something Frankenstein experimented with (the appendectomy was done before the newer, less invasive techniques were developed), and pretty bruises that have gone from black and purple to black and green. Retractors are not toys.

It's taking longer than I had anticipated to get over the whole thing, which irritates me, but I have finally made it back online.

Let the celebrations begin!
