FIREFLY CARTOON (ON YOUTUBE NOW)

Tuesday, January 20, 2015 8:14:20 PM

Hi everybody.

I started a firefly RPG adventure for my son. In an attempt to make it educationally in addition to entertaining, I also have been showing him how to make it into a simple cartoon. (in my sig if you want to check it out) Im no animator, but im hoping just showing him the steps to video production might kindle an interest in him and he may pick this up as a hobby.

thats all kinda beside the point though

The story, that is the heart of what I am doing.
Id'e like to post story ideas (and cannon plots) for feedback to be looked at by other browncoats.

Heres what we got so far,

Episode 1

I did a "rolling start" to kinda catch everyone off guard. No 5 min of saying stuff like , "you all meet in a bar and the captain asks for volunteers to fly on his firefly." Nope, I just started talking. :)

Said "You find yourself in a church you have never been before" I think it worked out pretty well for a surprise opener, and caught everyone off guard.
Basicly the party had been split in 2, (before the episode began) and one of them was in this church, looking for someone they had to kidnap. They had no back story, and
didn't know why they were doing what they were doing. Things started getting weird in the church and it became obvious that the religious place was being mis used for evil.

Right when things started getting weird in the church, we jumped to the other half of the party. They were flying a MULE with an experimental engine which allowed it to fly 30 ft up. The engineer had to keep making skill checks to keep it functioning, or they would have to drop back down to ground level. The captain, a man named "Jayne" told the pilot to stop and then hooked a chain into his harness and jumped off the MULE

What no one knew (save the captin I guess) was that they were over the church
Jayne crashes through the ceiling, breaking up the Cult service, and tackles the cult leader. The member of our party who was in the service was then reminded (by a flashback) that he needed to get a harness on one of the people in the church, and then bet both of them out of there.

The MULE pulls Jane, the party member, and kidnap victim up through the roof, and church is dismissed. All the cult members and their leader take off after the MULE in small planetary craft, however the experimental engine is keeping the thing 30 foot in the air and out of their reach (they are also reminded in a flashback right then that this providence has outlawed the use of fire arms, so Jayne didn't let ANYONE bring a gun. Thats good, because the cult members don't have guns either.

The chace runs through an apple orchard, mistakes are made, forest fire breaks out, and our heroes end up back at ground level.

The mad cap adventure continues with our good party picking off cultists one at a time as they race for the safety of the Firefly.

They get there, board, but have to wait for the cargo door to shut, allowing the last handful of cultists on board. Real combat breaks out, but ends with the bad guys being thrown off the ship.

In an epilogue (like a cut scene where the players don't get to role play) Cap Jayne calls the father of the young man they kidnapped. Long story short (Patty Hearst story) The father was rich and the boy was selected for the cult so they could get his money. The father decides to teach his son a lesson and tells Jayne to keep his son as free labor, he does this to get out of paying Jayne's recovery fee.

The episode ends with Jayne breaking a pair of pink handcuffs (hey it was the only pair he had handy) so they are stuck on the hostage's right arm. He can't remove them, so he is stuck with a pair of pink handcuffs permanently on his arm as a mark of shame until he pays off his debt to Jayne.

Jayne states (during the conversation with the hostage's father) that he doesn't have enough fuel or money to leave the system they are in (not specified yet) The crew decides they will try to take a few small jobs in that system and save up enough money to be able to leave if they can find more lucrative work elsewhere.

Our next episode won't be with the original crew, but 3 new members who will join up during a separate adventure. That might happen in the next few weeks.

The plan for that is Jayne is looking for a ships dr (something he noted in the last episode when combat broke out and one of our guys went down)

So, somewhere, not TOO far away, on a Cube port (think modular "U Store" self storage space station, that kinda looks like a borg ship) There just happens to be a dr. A highly trained Core/Alliance dr. He is a specialist in genetic research, and was involved in a very famous (infamous) experiment on a planet named Maranda. Work he participated in accidently killed thousands and spawned the Revers. Although not the most "moral" man, he does hold some guilt for this, and has been (secretly)working on a cure for the "Rever Syndrome"

After the fallout at Maranda, he and his team had disbanded. For reasons of saving core face and personal safety, they all went underground and tried to keep this part of their past secret (think Nazi DRs) But our "good" Dr still wanted to find a cure. To that end, he became somewhat of a "mob dr" and has been on rotation, inspecting facilities where illegal salves are being kept in cryo storage. He comes back and starts thawing slaves, and doing expearments, creating Revers, and then trying to cure them. None of his tests resulted in a cure yet, so he just re-freezes the revers he creates to be thawed at a later date when they are sold as frozen slaves.

The second episode picks up when he has almost successfully cured a rever he created. He gets his test subject about to 80% of normal. He can talk and reason, but has a nasty temper, and gets special bonus during combat. Play begins with his dilemma, should he re-freeze this partially cured man and continue his work, or listen to his compelling story of why he was wrongly sold into slavery in the first place.

To make matters worse, our dr doesn't know that the cryo chambers have remote call capabilities, and when he started opening them, a call was made to the mob. So he's trying to decide what to do with this slave and an assassin shows up. Only time will tell what fate awaits the Dr, or the slave, or the girl who rightfully owns the shuttle the assassin stole (she's tied up in the back, and the 3rd new player in our game)

So thats what I got so far.
I was really trying for story lines which seemed believable in the Firefly universe. I was also going for the "Everyone has a secret, some more dangerous than others" thread which was ever present on Firefly.

Any thoughts, or feedback?

(ps if you comment you are giving me permission to use your feedback, no payment is implied or promised, however I will give you credit :) I won't steal your advice, but im not paying you a consulting fee ;)
