Godspeed, Dawson. They took you way too young.

Your performance as yourself in The B in 23 is one of legend, and won't be forgotten by anyone who's already seen it any time soon, and I would recommend to anybody I know to watch the show just to see it.

You always seemed like a cool dude to me.

Thanks for the good times.

not really a big deal for me as I never knew the guy as an actor I know thats cold but its true

He's the meme guy, a few years ago I read his real life kiddo daughter discovered his viral 'Dawson's Creek' crying meme and would keep sending it to him

I only know the meme of dudes crying about girls in teen dramas

Anyways thats a very young age

I dont think I was in the States when his show was on the air but in other parts of the world
Dawsons Creek was kinda not there...You could find US toons or X-files in any part of the world

Seinfeld yeah people know that and Larry David but Sienfeld wasnt popular I dont think New York humor sold, 'Cheers' seemed ok but it was mostly a show for adults and I was too young to get stuff I liked re-runs A-Team, Northern Exposure, I probably watched other stuff Walker Texas, Fresh Prince, old Miami Vice, Roseanne, Muppets, classic Twilight Zone, Outer Limits, Deep Space 9, Voyager, Star Trek TNG and reruns of the original Trek in some countries you could see them 'The Simpsons' you find that show in any part of the world
Global web icon
In Europe, England, Scotland you could find 'Neighbours'?an Australian television soap opera, in Japan you could find French toons in France you could find Japan movies and shows.
I know some people got Dawson's Creek on VHS or satellite I was probably too bust partying, I did watch Battlestar, Farscape, then comicbook stuff like 'Heores' was important and I already found Firefly

I only known Katie Holmes from the time there was an Oprah talk show clip and Tom Cruise jumping up and down on the couch, I know Joshua Jackson, Busy Philips from other shows but never watched them, she played Katie Holmes portrayed Rachel in Christopher Nolan's Batman Begins and she was later replaced by Maggie Gyllenhaal

anyways RIP crying meme-face guy

Hah... Yeah. Most people are probably going to remember him as the crying meme guy.

Never saw the dude on TV (while not acting) where he didn't have a smile on his face. I hear he had a beautiful family that he left behind. I think I heard he might have had like 4 or 5 kids even.

I was just on the internet while talking to the old man yesterday and he said "probably od'd on heroin or fentanyl. And yeah... cynical me wasn't going to argue that but did look into it and though the real cause certainly didn't make me feel any better, I was glad to hear it wasn't due to a crippling addiction.

I think besides "Don't Trust the B in 23", the only thing I probably ever saw him in was the movie Varsity Blues, which I believe was filmed while Dawson's Creek was still being filmed, probably toward it's final few seasons. I don't really remember anything about that movie besides seeing it with my girlfriend in the theater at the time, and (if my memory isn't fooling me) that was the movie where a young and beautiful Ali Larter wore the whip cream bikini with cherries for nipples for her boyfriend.

I'm serious about The B in 23 though. If you ever care enough to see what his acting was like, it stars Krysten Ritter as "The B", who was Jessie's junkie girlfriend in Breaking Bad, and who starred as Jessica Jones in what I still think to this day is the best Marvel adaptation ever put to film (Note: Only Season 1).

I really would recommend checking it out just for James' performance alone. It's the only thing I remember about the show, and probably the only reason I even remember it out of the sea of crap I was watching back in my drinking days. James having the ability to laugh at himself and clearly love making this bizarro alternate version of himself was really funny and just kind of drew you in. Personally, I felt he stole the show and he became the reason I was really watching it at one point.

And really, you had no idea how much of it was real or where that line was drawn between reality and surrealism. Because pretty much everything that he did is a parody of what most people believe that every single person in Hollywood acts like 24/7 when the camera isn't on them (at least what they thought of them when times were a little bit lighter, all the way back in 2012-2013). It wasn't so goofy that it wasn't believable, but the thinking part of your brain is always trying to tell you that there's no way he acts like this in real life. But since he kind of faded into the background and did behind the scenes stuff like directing after Dawson's was over, and did a pretty great job staying out of the papers and the tabloids, I think most people who watched the show wondered if he really was like that in real life, and it wouldn't surprise me if some people believed he was actually just playing himself.

If you saw the FOX TV show Fringe, you've seen "Pacey" the other guy in the love triangle with Katie Holmes, played by Joshua Jackson. The only other thing I ever saw him in was the movie "The Skulls", which was a college-campus psychological thriller about the pretty well known fraternity. Haven't seen that movie since the first time in the theaters, but I know I did enjoy it.

EDIT: Yeah... The B in 23 did get cancelled after 2 seasons. Sounds like there were a lot of people pissed about that... imagine that, huh?

I may have been drunk while I was watching it, but like I said, it was one of the shows that I remembered out of many that are long forgotten. It really isn't the type of show I could imagine I'd ever begin to watch, so that tells you how much crap I was ingesting back in those days to even give it a try. I'm sure the only reason I did was because I liked Ritter from both Breaking Bad and Jessica Jones.

Here was a good review for the show, and spoke a little more about James's role. (A lot of the reviews on imdb bring him up).

Quote:

An already cancelled, in the middle of its second season, gem from ABC. It has been quite unsuccessful, but it is, indeed, one of the finest sitcoms to come out in recent years and will probably end up as something of a cult item in years to come (hopefully it'll get a DVD or Netflix release so others can catch on). Dreama Walker stars as a Midwestern girl moved to NYC to work on Wall Street, a job which she immediately loses. She moves in with socialite Krysten Ritter, who at first is just planning to scam her out of her money. When Walker outsmarts her, the two form a tenuous friendship, which is often tested by Ritter's spoiled demeanor. Perhaps the greatest well of jokes comes from the third major character of the show, Ritter's best friend James Van Der Beek of Dawson's Creek fame. That's the actual actor James Van Derk Beek, playing himself as a washed up stud desperately clinging to his fame (in the second season, his whole arc concerns an appearance on Dancing with the Stars). Van Der Beek hilariously goes along with whatever self-deprecating silliness that's written for him any given week. Ritter and Walker are both great in their roles, too. The show is very goofy. One might say cartoonish, which is appropriate since creator Nahnatchka Khan was one of the main writers on American Dad!, which, in my opinion, is still one of the funniest shows on television. Paired with another ABC black sheep, Happy Endings, I don't know if I could handle watching those two shows back to back - seriously, I might have died laughing. Highly, highly recommended. Keep a watch out for it on video or streaming (some episodes are on Hulu, maybe all of them on Hulu+).
