So, I just saw Bela Fleck and the Flecktones a couple of weeks back, and have been listening to their latest album "Little Worlds" since.

For those not in the know, BEla Fleck is a banjo virtuoso, with a bass virtuoso , woodwinds virtuoso, and electronic drummer in his band.

They have a totally amazing and incredibly diverse bluegrass/pop/folk/country/ funk/electronica/celtic/fillintheblank sound, and I really think that pretty much a half of the last 3-disc album would make excellent music for "Serenity" in the soundtrack. Very little of their music has lyrics, and all of it suffers not one bit in the emotional expression for it.

Plus, some of it just forces an image of leather dusters, open fires, and horse wrangling to mind...

Just a random thought at midnight on a dreaded Monday...

Right on, 'Hat. I've often thought that Bela Fleck would go extremely well with the FF Verse (BTW, I know him as a mandolin virtuoso. Does he also play the banjo?).

Also, I really think that several Nickel Creek songs would meld well with the FF vibe (especially a song called "The Smoothie Song," from a recent album, which makes me think of a Firefly chase sequence)

Oh, hell yes, to all mentioned above!!! Bela Fleck would be fantastic for the soundtrack as would Nickel Creek. In a more "newgrass" vein, String Cheese Incident and Yonder Mountain/Keller Williams would also be quite appropriate, especially their instrumentals. Maybe even some of the celt-rock groups from Canada; some of it is a bit too "new" feeling, but they do a lot of great ballads that you could see being sung in bars and at shindigs. I'm on a kick with Enter the Haggis and Clumsy Lovers right now.

In fact, I'll be dragging along my trusty mix of all the above to DragonCon, and we could use it for the shindig there!

He's known mainly for the banjo, actually, but also plays mandolin and guitar.

And I thought my girlfriend was the only person who knew The Clumsy Lovers!!
