Let me warn you up front...WAIT for it to get on Netflix.

This movie was poorly paced, poorly set up, poorly written and poorly
directed by British screenwriter, Drew Pearce.

The story goes something like this:

In the year 2028, a band of bank robbers totally screw up a bank heist and all hell breaks loose. The leader is a smart hip young black male named "Waikiki" who thinks on the fly and places a call to the host of the Artemis Hotel to heal their wounds.

In the background of this slow-paced action movie there's a riot in the streets of Los Angeles. Chaos and confusion abound as the two brothers
(they are related) make their way into the "Hotel," a safe haven for the criminally wounded; but there's more.

A hitwoman, a crime boss, an arms dealer, a muscle-bound paramedic/bouncer
and an aging nurse with a tragic past. You got that. Try to keep up. All
converge upon the "Hotel" to get "treatment" - this hotel has all the
latest gadgets to help patch their hurts. I thought that this would be a
funny romp through a mob connected "hospital" of sorts, but the writing
was so bad that I couldn't really get into it. Part of the reason I
thought this was the casting of Charlie Day. Just about everything I've seen him in he rocks, but here they asked him to play tough, seriously!?
It was a waste of his talents.

(more to come tomorrow)

To Continue..............

When I saw the trailer it made me anxious to see it. I mean, Sofia Boutella,
that bad ass, in this movie. Dave Bautista, another bad-ass, Zachary Quinto, Charlie Day, Jodie Foster. Then you have Sterling K. Brown (that guy from
"This Is Us"). Come on, who wouldn't salivate at the mere mention of these
talented actors under one roof. But actors need words and direction; and a
good script. But I was determined to go see this movie regardless.

It started out promising, but I found myself waiting for something truly cool
to happen, and boy was I disappointed. There were some scenes that I thought "okay, here we go," but then it would fizzle out. I got the feeling
that this movie took itself too seriously. When Jeff Goldblum enter the fray,
I thought, "okay, now...here we go." But even he couldn't save this movie. He looked kind of bored. In Ragnarok Jeff Goldblum practically stole the show,
so I thought here he would "kill." Didn't happen.

If it was me directing this schlock, I would tell both Goldblum and Day,
go nuts. Improv to your heart's content, then maybe it would breathe life
into the script. Don't get me wrong, Bautista and Day, hell even Foster had
some good one-liners. But they were few and far in between. To me, the
stand outs were Brown and Boutella. Bautista too. But the direction was weak
and rather uninspired. Dude, you have all these amazing actors under one roof;
kick ass!

So script and direction. Otherwise a great idea (someone in Hollywood thought
it was worth a shot), but it was done better by the team behind John Wick.
I think it will kick ass on Netflix. Wait for it to show up there.

awwwww. Thanks for the warning. No chance of any redeeming qualities?

I had been under the impression Jodie had directed, my bad.

There are a few laughs, very few, and there were some tender moments. But my
main complaint was the marketing of this movie, it was the old bait and switch.
I got the impression there would be some kick-ass action, but what we got was
some wordy scenes with little pay off.

There were some potentially awesome scenes but it would just fizzle out.

Bummer...

I didn't remember the name to this movie, but I actually do see commercials sometimes on break at work these days and saw that Charlie Day was in a movie that seemed far out of his wheelhouse.

I might actually give this one a watch just to see him in something different.

The dude is brilliant.

I've been patiently waiting for the second installment of your review.
Didn't see that you snuck it into the OP.

Normally Charlie Day is one hilarious dude, but the script just went nowhere.
Like I said, a couple of chuckles here and there, but otherwise inconsistent.
I needed more action and less dialogue.

I suggest waiting for streaming video release.
