Okay, I got a great recommendation for you guys. A brilliant show called the Marvelous Mrs. Maisel - on Amazon.

I saw the first, and only, season and it's not only a hoot, it's hilarious, but with a touch of drama. It's set in 1958 and it's about a young Jewish housewife, her family and her marriage. Here's a description:

Quote:

In 1958 New York, Midge Maisel's life is on track- husband, kids, and elegant Yom Kippur dinners in their Upper West Side apartment. But when her life takes a surprise turn, she has to quickly decide what else she's good at - and going from housewife to stand-up comic is a wild choice to everyone but her. The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel is written and directed by Amy Sherman-Palladino (Gilmore Girls).

The show's been nominated for 2 Golden Globes. I will say this about the show, it is fun, adult and entertaining; almost like watching a movie but in episodes. Rachel Brosnahan, the star of the show, is a star in the making. trust me she's THAT good.

Just see the pilot, you'll see what I mean. Trust me on this one.

Also starring: Tony Shaloub, Kevin Pollack (who are hilarious) Marin Hinkle (Two and a Half Men) and Alex Borstein (Family Guy).

Well, I watched the first episode. Is the main draw of the rest of the show her stand-up??? I mean, there are moments that caught me...but the ten minutes of painful snoozefest in between....

Can you point to the best episode of the first season, maybe?

Well, the pilot goes into the background of how she got started i stand up comedy. But the action picks up in the last 16 minutes of the show, around 40:20, and continues in Episode 2. It gives you a synopsis of the previous episode at the beginning and picks up where it left off.

There are some hilarious scenes especially with her father and mother and her in-laws...Tony Shaloub is her father; and Kevin Pollack is her Father-in-Law and he is truly funny. Well, it's an acquired taste I guess.

I kind of liked 3 and 4, I would often watch at least 2 a day (there are 8 altogether). Episode 7 was good also.

I have quite a bit of what goes on in that first episode in my family, and it's not so funny in real life...

It IS nice to see traditional Jewish crazy, instead of Christian crazy for once...but at the same time... any religious crazy makes me tetchy...

I did tell hubby the joke about the French whores.... "Did you HEAR what that girl did to Joels' balls??"

If they take it off Prime I'll check out the other episodes you mention...

I liked it because it kept my interest, plus it was about the world of stand-up comedy, but the ultimate selling point for me was Tony Shaloub and Kevin Pollack, two of my favorite character actors - and both in the same place, at the same time. Genius casting.

There is a scene, I forget which episode, in a restaurant with Joel, where he brings his mistress to meet his parents. It is comedy gold. So well written, acted and directed. Granted there are some slow moving parts of the series, but overall, it's just plain funny.

The joke about the French whores was funny. There's more sprinkled throughout.

Let's say a guy was born with only one testicle... you'd be on board with him getting a fake one, right? Hair implants for balding guys?

If you wouldn't be judgmental about that, you got no right to look down on any woman for doing what she likes to her body. But, it's clear rethugs have no problem being hypocrites...

You truly are delusional. You imply that I don't care if a woman gets breast implants. I say I prefer 'natural ', because it's true. Then you try to flip it on me and claim I'm being judgmental if I DON'T appreciate a woman who gets fakes boobs ?

Think about the crazy that's in your head which allows you to mock and ridicule a guy , regardless of which position he takes on - ANY issue.

Seriously, look at how twisted you've turned a simple thread about a very well done show, which I happen to like, and agree that it was properly recognized.

" rethugs " What the hell are you even talking about ? Seriously, what ever meds you're on, take more , take less or change doctors. It's not working.

Oh, and about the last thing I give a damn about is what any guy has downstairs. Or even on his head. Fake hair ? Where's that get fun? Biggest waste of money ever, imo. But now you'll attack me for that too, I guess.

You made a point to say you aren't a fake breast man, like it makes any friggin' difference.

Like it somehow makes you better that you only approve of "real" breasts.

Guess women who have had cancer reconstruction aren't "real" either??

Only after YOU tried to claim that it would not make a difference if they were fake. Not sure why you thought that was relevant at all. All I did was honestly reply.

Not in the least. But it's clear you're going to admonish me for no matter what I say. I'd say if a woman has had such a medical issue like cancer, it's perfectly fine. I honestly can not imagine what has you soooo worked up about any of this. You literally are going miles out of your way to get yourself pissed off over things imagined which simply are all in your head. If I weren't so bored , I may be fascinated.

Right here, is where you invent that is completely fictional narrative. If I like fake boobs, I am shallow. If I don't like fake boobs, then you call me judgment. It is a trap. And for whatever twisted reason you decided it was worthwhile to go down this path, only the snakes in your head understand.

The "they're real , and they're fabulous" line from Seinfeld was the underlying message I was going for. Sorry you didn't catch that, not that it would've made any difference.

* you started with a false template portraying me to be something I am not. Then, after having been shown to be wrong, most people would have apologized and just left it at that. Instead, you ramp up the crazy and then refused to back down. I must be wrong, the matter what. Because in your twisted little mind, I represent something that you have declared war on, and no amount of truth or fact revealing will change you. Far easier for you to pick a fight with something that does not exist. What a sad, sorry , make believe world you live in.

NOW yer just COMPLETELY making shit up to cover.
Like always.

You said
"Oh, they were VERY impressive, and they're real !!"

not
"they're real, and they're fabulous"

Which has two different meanings, and then expect -narcissistically- that everyone has seen Seinfeld and memorized it, which I have never had any desire to.

The fact remains that you say you prefer "real" boobs when it just proves YOU ARE THE REAL BOOB. It implies that women that have any kind of work done are somehow unnatural, and I'm sure you would gleefully denigrate any woman who didn't hold to your standards.

The real TRAP here is your stone age knuckle-dragging mentality, and every woman should be glad they aren't stuck in it.

In a thread about a very well done and duly recognized t.v. show, I thought we actually agreed on the topic. You, oddly, chose to go looking for a fight and fabricated one all by yourself.

Welp, " for the record ", you're wrong.

And the folks who pass out awards think so too. Most of the award winning programs will amp up the nudity and violence in the early episodes, as a hook, then taper off as the series continues.

You're on a Firefly fan site, dear. So... yeah. " You it ".

Love how, yet again, when faced w/ being totally schooled, you pivot to yet another irrelevant point , so as to avoid just getting flattened on the topic you couldn't even respond to.

You haven't seen any of those, so instead of retracting your silly, uninformed comment, you wander further off into the woods and pick out an entirely new thing to bitch and moan about, per usual.

I'm down on Hollywood mainly when they DON'T stick to doing their craft, and try to preach to us about political and social matters. Things which they really don't know 1 damn thing about, but in a desperate attempt to remind everyone who they are when not doing their day job, they feel compelled to get in front of a camera, yet again.

* I'm reminded , going over this thread, that you've seen ONE episode of TMMM, and weren't all that impressed. I get that, it may not be for everyone. I'll not bore you with the whys of what I liked about the show. Waste of time. I'll just note that you went on and on in a thread about a show that you'd only seen the pilot episode. Maybe if you'd see the entire series, and knew what you were talking about, your views on this matter would be more valid.

You are easily one of the most ignorant, shallow people I've ever met. It's truly annoying that in 15 years there hasn't been anywhere better to go than here.

I think the reason YOU like Maisel is because you are totally fake and attracted to fake and fake standards. She measures herself every day and pretends to sleep when she's been up putting on makeup. She talks smack about her baby not being beautiful...No real person does that. Her husband left because SHE'S A TOOL. You don't want a woman you want a bot with "perfect" boobs. Although this is not Cinema forum, if you tire of her broken record act, you should revisit her favorite non-RWED topic, which is her craving for BungSex.

AURAPTOR

America loves a winner!

If she's a natural red head w/ blue eyes, then she's part of the rarest genetics club in the world. And damn fine, I might add.

By the way, the show IS well written, just please get past the Boobs and you'll see. It won because it's entertaining, despite the showing of the aforementioned boobs, and funny, but also has something to say about choices, you know.....life.

I wouldn't recommend it otherwise. Jeez, just because some people can't see past their nose shouldn't detract from something worthwhile to enjoy. Now, having said that, if it's not your cup of tea, then I could understand.

I've seen similar reactions to Del Toro"s Shape of Water. Some call it a beastility film because of the story's characters fall in love. When you look at a Picasso, it's more than paint flung onto a canvas. Anyway, forget the boobs and enjoy the series, because it's more than a two-second view of a body part. In other words, do you see Trees or the Forest?

The Horror....

Always happy to call you and JSF out for being the self-righteous and yet utterly dense freaks you are.

For the record, if they hada resort to showing boobs in the first damn episode...it can't be that good of writing. Whether they are real or fake.
Just desperate pandering.
