Everybody Dies Alone.

So I know there are tons of Star Wars references in Firefly (Vader's shuttle leaving Persephone, Han in carbonite, etc) but one i'm on the fence about and I want your opinions on. The one i'm on the fence on whether it's a easter egg is Mal's pants. So I know Mal's pants were designed to look Civil War esque but it's not the pants as a whole but rather the stripe down the side. I was rewatching A New Hope and I noticed that the Rebel soldiers on the Princess's ship in the beginning have a brown stripe down the side of their pants. The soldier who gets choked by Vader has pants that are very very similar to Mal's. So do you think it's a reference or just a coincidence. A lot of pants have stripes down the side though so that's why i'm on the fence. Our local police department out here wears khaki pants with a brown stripe on both sides, in fact I actually asked a few officers if you could buy them at police surplus (turns out they look at you funny when you ask to buy their britches). So anyhow yeah i'll stop rambling what do ya'll think, star wars reference or coincidence? Here's the scene in Star Wars

I'd say coincidence. Lots of uniforms have stripes on the pants.
