I know the idea of a "firefly modern day au" sounds dumb (and it is) BUT my friend gave me a story prompt a while ago for an essay and the more I wrote, the more it sounded like Firefly. Long story short, I tweaked a few parts, changed the names and made it into Firefly fanfiction.

And I was wondering if that sounds good enough to upload?

Or are there any Firefly AUs out there at all and am I accidentally trying to start something dumb?

Well, it depends on your definition of AUs. There are plenty of fan fictions with original characters, and could be considered AU stories from where they go with their plots. Most often they are still set in a similar time frame to the series, but that's the joy of fan fiction, there are no rules, you can do whatever you want.

As to whether you should post or not, why not? There's really no downside to sharing your work with an audience that is predisposed to liking your subject matter. If you like what you have written and think other people might too, go ahead and post it!!

Ahh, I know, I've only recently started reading fanfiction and so much of it that's posted here is gold! (I've read a few things on fanfiction.net that are also amazing).
My story is so weird though like it's basically a modern day au and I'm not sure if it works but you're right! It is worth a shot! :)

(okay i uploaded it but it isn't finished and the last 1000 words are terrible because I wrote them late last night) :(
