My second Father's Day present arrived today, and I watched it just now.
Serenity on Blu Ray.
Oh my Buddha, it was amazing. It was like my theatrical viewing, except BETTER. So many small things & details were apparent to me as never before. Serenity herself looked so much more real & fully realized... I finally saw the primary buffer panel fling off in perfect clarity. The Reavers looked all the more disgusting, and the raindrops on the Operative's face looked so... wet!

If you haven't seen this movie on Blu Ray, I urge you to. Purchase a gorram BR player just for this purpose if for no other reason. I got mine for $38 including shipping on eBay.

There were tears. I did not hide them well from my family.
Yes, I AM a geek fan. And proud of it.

"What was that?"

I felt the same when I got the Blu Ray version.
Perfection perfected!

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

Love the Blu-ray edition! Definitely a better experience of the BDM.

There's no place I can be since I found Serenity.

Until you upgrade to Blu-Ray you won't know. I think it is significantly better, but that depends on the quality of your player and your TV. The colors are richer, you can see more detail in everything, especially scenes with lots of shadows or dark corners. Same for the Firefly set.

Is Buddha some tiny TV screen?
Also check the "My Turn" fight scene. At the end, when the blast doors open, and the Alliance blows out the wall. When the focus changes from River close-up face to Mal in the background, watch the focus move through the distance between, and as the focus latches on to the floating dust particles at each range. Won't see that on SD.

I have about 15 Blu Ray movies now. Westworld & the 1979 BSG theatrical movie were the most significant upgrade differences IMO (that said, the SD DVD's were utter crap, so that's no surprise), but Serenity is THE best looking movie I own at this point. Gorram glorious.

Unrelated, but I saw Finding Nemo again n the telly, and I swear there was far more color and clarity than I had remembered ever seeing originally. What was that about ?

Same TV

Same High Def package, but there was certainly more detail and color - from the shells of the turtles to the deepness of the colors.

I've seen this movie many times over, but never like this !

Maybe new quality in my cable company ?

Multiply that by about 10 and you'd have my collection. If you don't insist on getting a new movie right away, plus you shop around all the various sellers (Amazon, Best Buy, DeepDiscount, Ebay, etc.) you can score some incredible deals. The majority of titles I have averaged less than $10.

Yeah, that's my story here too. I got Terminator 2 for $8 at a local used record & CD store (wow it's pretty!). Basically, I bought my BR player on eBay (for $38) just for an upgrade of crap classic DVD transfers, but now I'm playing with it. Serenity blew my mind. I have to get the series now. I've a hunch Superman: The Movie will freak me out as well! That's next.

Less compression by your cable company. Cable often has poorer resolution that broadcast due to compression.
