This is just ridiculous. I have just come from the local grocery store and GROCERY PRICES HAVE GONE UP AGAIN!!!

My husband has a decent job, and it is getting hard for US to buy what we need, I can't imagine the people that have to live on the kind of salary we used to.

I was reading an article today about how many people have been screwed out of their life savings by the shutdown. WE are becoming just like Russia in the 80's. Soon we will be bringing barrelsful of de-valued money to buy a loaf of bread!

THIS COUNTRY NEEDS TO WAKE UP!! I am the last person to be alarmist BUT WE NEED TO TAKE ACTION!!!

NO MORE SHUTDOWNS, WE NEED TO MAKE THEM ILLEGAL!!
When having a two party system hurts your country DO AWAY WITH THE TWO PARTY SYSTEM! Forget democrat and republican: think US and THEM!!!

OUR GOVERNMENT NEEDS TO BE PUT ON TRIAL, THEY NEED TO BE SUED FOR WHAT THEY HAVE DONE!

Actually, I didn't vote. I don't believe in the two party system and until we pull our heads out our asses and see that it doesn't work, I WON'T. It's an outdated and divisive notion.

Neither choice was appropriate. Romney would've kept supporting a system of incorporation and enslavement of everyone NOT a millionaire. It's how we GOT HERE!
Obama is married to a monster who thinks she's right with god and somehow he got confused as to whether he was leading a country or a religion.

The lesser of two evils is STILL EVIL.
I won't debate sides.

WE CAN ALL AGREE THIS ISN'T WORKING! Stop playing the blame game....

This is the sad part, there is no reason to be paying $4.50 for milk or $6 for bacon. Our money is becoming worthless, yet we export BILLIONS of barrels of oil??

Hello? Is this thing ON?

You could look at your problem a different way (with famous name villains to specifically blame) : the economic costs of GOP attempts to rule by extortion that began years before the shutdown/debt crisis and haven’t ended with the (temporary?) resolution of that crisis.
http://krugman.blogs.nytimes.com/2013/10/17/what-a-drag-2/
Quote:

First, part of the fiscal cliff deal involved letting the Obama payroll tax cut — a significant, useful form of economic stimulus — expire. (Republicans only like tax cuts that go to people with high incomes.) This led to a surprisingly large tax hike in 2013, focused on workers:

Second, GOP opposition to unemployment insurance has been the biggest factor in a very rapid decline in unemployment benefits despite continuing weak job markets:

This hurts the unemployed a lot, but it also hurts the economy, because the unemployed are already living on the edge, and surely must have been forced into spending cuts as benefits expired.

The combination of the payroll tax hike and the benefit cuts amounts to about $200 billion of fiscal contraction at an annual rate, or 1.25 percent of GDP, probably with a significant multiplier effect. Add this to the effects of sharp cuts in discretionary spending and the effects of economic uncertainty, however measured, and I don’t think it’s unreasonable to suggest that extortion tactics may have shaved as much as 4 percent off GDP and added 2 points to the unemployment rate.

In other words, we’d be looking at a vastly healthier economy if it weren’t for the GOP takeover of the House in 2010.

The problem is there hasn't been ANY resolution and there WON'T BE...
It's damn near impossible for Ma and Pa shops to earn ANYTHING. Every time someone does find a way to make money they legislate the crap out if it, or government will "inadvertently" screw them out of it because the government is in the pocket of these corporations who will never allow competition, which in turn pay third world wages and make increasingly third world products.

The sad part is, 3/4ths of this country are physically not intelligent enough to survive without them. My kid's principal feeds his kids at McDonalds EVERY NIGHT because they don't know how to cook! And he acts PROUD of it! And we keep reinforcing it by NOT teaching children basics. We teach them to be reliant on corporations for everything and the cycle of shit continues...

Yanno, I'm not sure anything could ever be changed, because the American people just don't want to disturb their illusion of fairytale evenings by having to think or act at all... It doesn't actually matter who is in charge here, it's always going to be the corporations...

There's extensive evidence www.cjr.org/behind_the_news/the_backfire_effect.php that facts not only don’t win arguments, they make people dig in even deeper: “When your deepest convictions are challenged by contradictory evidence, your beliefs get stronger.”

I think this explains a lot about what is going wrong. And the rest is explained by those specific strong beliefs that some find so very dear to their hearts. And just how do you fight THAT?

The sad thing is I am married to a man who means well and tries harder than just about anyone I've ever met, but his first reaction to ANYTHING -good or bad- is fear. However, it's not his fault, he was raised in a household that holds emotional reactions sacred. "God made us feel these ways, so it MUST be right." Reason?? That's for people who think they are better than...

That first scene from Serenity may be pretty ominous "River, we're not trying to tell them what to think, we're trying to show them HOW (stab)"
but thing is, we DO need to show children how to think logically and rationally because a LOT of them aren't getting that at home. A cursory class in law would also be a great deterrent. They need to know that even if their parents don't punish them, the law will.

I remember our first conversation about gay marriage
"Honey, what does it matter to you? You aren't gay..."
"Yes, but if we allow them to marry then what's next?? Goats?"
"Do YOU know any goats that can give legal consent?? Because I think half of Alabama would be up for that..."

And yeah, I make my kid watch Judge Millian all the time. Love her. Waaay better than Judge Witchy, without all the teen bigotry and screeching...

Ok That was waay off subject... I guess basically what you are saying is I should just go back to avoiding humanity like I usually do?

So you want to be reliant on Government, you want to be on section 8 housing, to be on welfare, to be on food stamps, to be on medicare, would ya like an Obamaphone? Would you like the Government to take care of all you needs? FYI Wishy, all this bitching and complainig you're doing is being done on a P.C. made by an evil corporation.

I make $18.50 and hour, they cut back my hours, I haven't had a raise in 3 years, they laid off 20 people where I work. WHAT WOULD YOU LIKE ME TO SAY TO MAKE "YOU" FEEL BETTER!! Now if you'll excuse me I'm going to go to Micky D's and order an evil Big Mac.

Once again, missin da point Whoz...

I've never been reliant on anything but myself and hubby (even though I do technically qualify for disability I've never even given a moments thought about actually DOING it.)

I'm saying we should ALL try to be reliant on ourselves and stay away from the monopolizing corporations AND government. Unfortunately, we also CAN'T as an intelligent society allow those who are truly less fortunate with no resources to suffer. Well, I can't. Some people don't seem to mind suffering...

Case in point- a fair lot of little people require multiple surgeries to get along and it has always been a pre-existing condition, forcing them or their families to pay doubly through pain and monetarily in time in healthcare where ONE can bankrupt you. I myself should have been diagnosed with R.A. ten years ago, but my doctor didn't write it up because he knew my husband was not in a good job and I would not be covered as it would be pre-existing. They COULD HAVE FIXED ME TEN YEARS AGO!!!! I've lived in hell for ten years I didn't have to because I wasn't RICH. And you're OK with that???

For what it's worth, I DO avoid corporations as much as possible. This computer I'm on is secondhand, as are most of our clothes, and I buy generic, produce local, and our ground beef comes from an actual local farmer. I'd love to even have our own chickens, but hubbys not for that...

And if'll make YOU feel better, since hubs works in coal he may not have a job in five years. Why don't YOU get a different job if you aren't happy?

I always thought limiting campaign funds is a good idea. Our country should not be run by the guy who buys the most public attention time. We have internets now, we can easily find out anything and everything about any candidate we want to know anyways...

I'm happy where I'm at, I'm afraid I may lose my job. Every month I get bad news, lay offs, cut backs, etc. They replaced the paper towels in the restrooms with electric hand dryers to save money. I'm not going to feel guilty for NOT being broke, I bust my ass every day, and in return the evil corp I work for pays me $ and gives me health care bennys. I'm sorry things are hard for you, but this weekend I'm going to go out for lunch and a few beers and thank God I wasn't let go this year.

We need a balance between business owners and the employees, but it seems like those who have money get the laws in their favor. One of my pet peeves is a business that outsources jobs overseas gets US Govt protection and a tax break for the expenses of moving over there plus not pay taxes for sales overseas.

I guess in the US, we go by the golden rule; he who has the gold, rules.

And things are niffty under Obama? How come he gets a pass? Reagan left office 25 years ago, but you lib act like he left office last week. Also did you know your left-wing friends in Hollywood get all kinds of tax breaks in L.A. and other citys, but they call them "tax incentives". NBC/U, Disney, Dreamworks, Paramount, CNN and HBO has laid off 100's since Barry became Prez...but they still love him.

The two-party system works as intended: it is SUPPOSED TO BE divisive and put the breaks on any sort of change.

Not that I think it works well. Increasingly, the problem is extremism and ignorance.

Having said that, I must say, with all due respect, it's hard to take any sort of political opinion seriously from someone who refuses to vote. Even if its the lesser of two evils, refusing to chose sends the message that you don't care if the GREATER evil wins.

People who refuse to influence the system, even minutely, don't have the right to criticism the system in my opinion.

'Zactly. And you think ME voting is gonna fix that? Honestly?

You think encouraging ANY group of people to vote is gonna fix ANYTHING?

Don't take it personal, I also believe this planet is doomed, and soon. The only way to save it is if about 7.5 billion people die off now... and then promptly return to tribal ways. I'd just really like food to be affordable while I'm here....That's really the best I hope for.
