America loves a winner!

Thoughts ?

I've not seen much in the way of chatter for this movie, and realize it's just opened this weekend.

Early reviews ?

I was a bit bummed at how Origins was received, so I can only guess that most aren't too hyped on this either. Which I find a bit hard to understand. I like the character. Some have said that Hugh , fine actor that he is, doesn't really play the part as it was " intended ". To each their own. I just thought there'd be more scuttle on this than I've heard.

I did hear a radio review of The Wolverine, and it was mixed. Those giving the review said Hugh was fine in it, but honestly were oblivious to the whole X-Men series. ( Yeah, real helpful review )

It's post 'Last Stand', but involves some back story to Logan's past.

Just saw it. Mostly, I was entertained by how far 3D has come. I saw it in a very nice very big theater in Times Square with the extra good sound and visuals. Whatever that's called. Cost $20/ticket. I was really impressed by the blend of 3D/color/lighting/focus/shaky cam. I don't know how movie makers continually improve the visual aspects of movies, but they're doing it.

As a movie? I was entertained. I'm glad I saw it. Logan was manly but angsty, there was action, a bit of humor, and it was mostly set in Japan which I enjoyed a lot. But I don't feel any need to see it again.

If you do see it, DO NOT leave at the credits! There's a tidbit that comes a few minutes in. (No second tidbit after all the credits like with The Avengers. I stayed to check.) The bonus is totally totally a must see. I would even claim that the bonus 30 seconds was better than the movie, because it dealt with something that's been a huge disappointment for me.

Overall, I'd say go see it. It was fun.

/may come back later to add spoiler bits

Background info on Logan is good.

Though, I do like the X-Men movies.

I wonder if my issues w/ wolverine:origins are the same. I'm not 'fan boy' for x-men, but I do enjoy the movies. ( I think I had more issues w/ 1st Class, but that's just me )

See, YOU'RE the sort of fan I'd like to hear from, as to what you think the movies have done right, what they've messed up, and such. As I wasn't so into the series in its comic form, I'd like to know what those who were think.

I mean, I can give some insight as to things Tolkien, and give pro and con to what Peter Jackson has done for the LOTR / Hobbit movies, but I guess in the end, all that matters is whether what's up on screen is entertaining or not.

I watched a Sky special on the movie, in which Hugh Jackman was interviewed. He gave us a dynamite piece of news: not only has shooting started on the next Wolverine/X-Men film, but they're using the story of Days Of Future Past!!! Shiny!

This may be a big budget flick that isn't going to bomb. Weren't they going to make a movie about "Storm"?

And the bonus tidbit in the credits makes me really really happy about the next movie in the series...

So hard to not spoil this!

I have such a crush on Gambit... hope the actor lives up to it!

Was he in the other Wolverine movie? I never saw that. Maybe I should. I recall a preview with Gambit in it, and I thought Oh yay! But I never saw whatever movie it was.

He was in X-Men Origins: Wolverine. I thought Taylor Kitsch wasn't bad, though they didn't make enough of Gambit the character.

Wolverine: Are you Remy LeBeau?

Gambit: Do I owe you money?

Wolverine: No.

Gambit: Then Remy LeBeau I am.

It's been more or less disowned anyway, and isn't really being factored into the continuity of the other films from here out (since it botched so much of that anyway).

You must mean the cartoon. Gambit hadn't even been created when the Days of Future Past story was done in the comics (though I guess he did become key to the story started in DOFP once Bishop was brought in years later).

But to address your hope - alas, no. Gambit seems to be one of the few characters they didn't bring back for the next flick.

For a flick which had its share of " I didn't see THAT comin' " moments, that post credit bonus took the cake.

W-O-W is right.

I expected something, but that was several magnitudes above what I expected. I was a bit meh about the next X-Men, but I'm getting somewhat excited about it now.

I had no interest is seeing it, after the terrible Origins movie. My daughter talked me into taking her and It was great. It is now my favorite "X" movie.

The fight scene on the train was the best part of the movie. All of the fight scenes were better than what they have done in the other movies. In the others they were so cheesy. Like Wolverine cutting down a ladder while someone is climbing it, or running down a hall cutting off locks. Who wants to see that? In this one he's slicing up Ninjas. That's awesome.

There were audible gasps and spontaneous claps of approval after the end credits scene.

Ikr. I don't know anything about film editing and stuff, but if I did I bet I'd be so impressed at how they put these fight sequences together. Not sure that's what you meant LOL! But they just looked awesome and moved fast without being confusing.

I might get Origins from the library, just to get your comparison.

Either because it doesn't happen all that often, or maybe I just tune it out, but those knee jerk responses like that from the audience, really are kinda cool. Sure, during the movie, when something happens, that's kinda expected. ( Like when Loki starts to monologue towards the end of The Avengers, and Hulk just goes off... too funny )

But at the end of the Fellowship of the Ring, @ a midnight showing, and with mostly Tolkien fans, was too perfect. Long movie, everyone knows there'll be 2 MORE on the way, yet as Sam and Frodo stare out across the land , with Mordor in the distance, the screen fades to black... one clearly distraught girl blurts out " What ? No way ! " , as she can't believe the movie's ending. Just too funny.
