CREVANREAVER

I found this article over at darkhorizon.com

"It seems almost a pre-requisite now for densely layered mega-hit genre shows to end not on a bang, but a whimper. Two years ago "The X-Files" quietly closed up shop after a steady decline in ratings in its last few years.

Last night saw the Buffy-verse collapse in on itself as "Angel" finished in its fifth season on The WB despite strong ratings and critical praise. The bad news is not only is it being replaced with some rather crap stand-up comedy shows, but its been mentioned that all that talk of TV movies and such is just talk for now.

This has left creator Joss Whedon very upset and he ain't afraid to express it. In an article over at Zap2It, he revealed what would have been the premise for season six - "If you buck the system and do your best to make it collapse, what if it does?". He also confirmed he had a few discussions -- although nothing more than that -- about a TV movie or another spinoff, which he says he'd only do if a cogent idea comes to him and he can assemble enough of the cast and crew to execute it properly: "I'd rather stop now than do anything by halves...[but] I just don't believe that the Buffy-verse is dead".

In any case Whedon is busy developing the "Firefly" movie and is keen to develop more projects for television in the near future.

Meanwhile UPN has just confirmed that is beleaguered "Star Trek" prequel "Enterprise" has been given a reprieve - albeit a short one. It's just been confirmed the program has made it onto the network's Fall slate - locked in for a Fridays at 9pm timeslot for its fourth season (btw for third season finale photos/details, be sure to check out Trekweb).

Catch is don't expect all this fuss next year, this fourth season is definitely the show's last short of a huge ratings boost. The network's renewal is believed to be due to the desire to get enough episodes to warrant syndication. A fourth season guarantees that but by ending it next year, it will not only finish up the Trek franchise on TV for the first time in nearly 20 years but be the shortest-running spin-off of the original show.

IESB has reports on Season 4 rumours which include a visit by members of the Q Continuum, and more original series species popping up. In any case SyFyPortal indicates that a Paramount source has revealed the crew have been told that any story arcs or other story elements need to be wrapped up by the end of the season - and the production team should be prepared to make the fourth season finale a wrap up. In fact if the ratings slide should continue, the network is ready to pull the series mid-season, and move any unaired episodes to run in the summer."

Maybe we won't be seeing an ANGEL TV movie!
