When you sit down and watch several episodes in a row, as we are wont to do, you start to notice certain things happening fairly often. Hence, I am making a little list of things that seem to be prevelant, or even required, for each installment of our beloved Firefly.

80-90% of the humor will be in the first 1/3 of the show.
Simon will be punched in the face hard enough to knock him off his feet.
River will scream.
Book will calmly defuse a tense situation.
Wash will have the longest and most interesting Chinese lines of any character.
Jayne will be seen exercising.

What else?

Oftentimes:

A scene at the dinner table, a good place to get everyone there at once.

A comment regarding Wash and Zoe's marriage

Shot of Jayne's weapons in his bunk (I shudder to think about his bunk and what he does there, beyond that...eww)

Information telling you Inara's whereabouts, including her client's name or specifics about her companion-related activity.

Information regarding the next job Mal has gotten, or if not, constant (yet understandable) whining about how there's no work/food/money/fuel.

A major moment of flirtation between Inara and Mal, or Simon and Kaylee.

Someone will call Serenity a piece of crap (or something similar in Chinese).

One of the crew says something, than is contradicted by something at some point in the episode - for example, in OiS there were two: Mal told Simon they were "all alone" out there, then you see Early's ship coming up behind them; *and* he told Simon that he could have been shot and who would fix him? Turned out to be Zoe later in the ep when he got shot. I think there's *something* like that in just about every episode. Joss likes that kind of thing.
