CYBERSNARK

(The old Thundercats thread does not appear to be in the sci-fi section, and I didn't feel like scanning through every subforum to see where it's been misfiled.)

Wondercon gave us our first "real" trailer of the new Thundercats series:

People are already comparing this to Avatar: The Last Airbender. I've always been a fan, but Thundercats has never been this epic.

(And that fanfare/trumpet version of the theme tune gives me chills.)

STORYMARK

I thought it looked pretty cool, myself.

"I thoroughly disapprove of duels. If a man should challenge me, I would take him kindly and forgivingly by the hand and lead him to a quiet place and kill him."

CYBERSNARK

Whole bunch of new information was just revealed:
http://www.comicbookresources.com/?page=article&id=31901

-Thundera is not a planet that gets destroyed, but a kingdom on Third Earth that falls. Generally, there's talk of removing the space-opera elements and focusing on the fantasy aspects. (Which is fine, IMHO; the "aliens on an unknown planet" origin didn't really provide anything you couldn't do this way.)

-Tygra is Lion-O's brother. And yes, the fact that they are different "breeds" seems to be a plot-point.

-Each of the mutants (Slyth, Vultureman, Monkian, Jackalman, etc) will be generals each leading their own armies.

-There is a reason Mumm-Ra can't transform into his "Everliving" form very often, or for very long.

-Snarf will eventually speak, but not at first, and he won't be the "annoying nursemaid" he was originally.

Quote:

"The series sort of starts in the middle of the story. We have a pretty vast mythology that we're developing, and it's a slow burn. You're not going to find out the whole story in the first three episodes. You're not going to find the whole story out in the first 26 episodes. But we have a story mapped out that if you're patient, all your questions are going to be eventually answered."

Bumping with nine (non-consecutive) minutes of Thundercats!!

(Spoilers, natch)

Observations:

-Snarf in Momo. He's so Momo it hurts.

-We have our first Thunderan swear-word. Whiskers.

-Loved Lion-O's introduction to Cheetara. "Hello-- *deeper voice* Hello there."

-The Thunder-brats (if ever that nickname was appropriate) are awesome. Though Wilykat's voice-acting is stunted and awkward (in true Thundercats fashion, I guess).

-I can hear the Tygra/Lion-O yaoi fangirls squeeing from here.

-Holy cats, Tygra plays rough. So does Lion-O.

-Wow, that Reptilian's face is a bloody mess. Impressive bit of gore for a kids' show. Lucky their blood isn't red.

-Looks like Lion-O will not tolerate bigotry, even toward sworn enemies, and is willing to take on an entire angry mob for his ideals. I like him already.

ZEEK

This sounds pretty freaking awesome to me. I like the sound of a slow burn story that's mapped out. Gimme!
