If the Firefly crew members were animals, which would they be?

Just got this idea after seeing the 'Meet Malcolm Reynolds' thread: http://www.fireflyfans.net/mthread.asp?b=2&t=45843

Cute, serious, noble looking puppy with the very fitting name of 'Malcolm Reynolds'.

So the other crew members: Inara a cat? Jayne a bear? Kaylee a... baby something? What do people think.

It's not personal. It's just war.

MENDUR

Okay ... I'll play.

Mal - Fox (too clever by half)

Zoe - Lioness (enough said)

Wash - Some kind of brightly colored duck (calm in flight, colorful and noisy and clumsy on the ground)

Kaylee - Raccoon (gets into everything, likes shiny things, and I think raccoons are cute)

Inara - Bird of Paradise (pretty, but not like anyone else on the ship)

Jayne - Wolf (not exactly tame but will follow a strong pack leader)

Book - Bear (calm on outside but don't poke him)

Simon - Cavalier King Charles Spaniel (tame, refined, with hunting instincts deeply buried)

River - Tasmanian Devil (cute but OMG don't tick it off, utters odd sounds)

I kinda go around in circles on Wash. I drew him as a pterosaur, but, I dunno. Goose? Flying Squirrel? Equally viable options.

Mendur I liked your list as well. Kaylee as a racoon and Inara as an exotic bird... very good. I also liked Inara as a fox in Byte's picture though - it goes very well with Mal's wolf.

Still not sure about Jayne, bears are a bit too good natured for him, and wolves too loyal... unless he's a lone wolf I guess.

Kaylee as a Raccoon is an adorable idea. :)

I also thought of making Inara some sort of extravagant bird, but I went with vixen because of the eastern depiction of fox as mysterious and a temptress, also the western use of the term "fox" to describe someone who's attractive.

I also considered fox for Mal, because of the overlap between Reynard the Fox and Robin Hood stories. I went for wolf because the wolf is both harsh and untameable (big bad wolf), but often nowadays is considered to have a noble streak.

I went with rabbits for Simon and River because I wanted the two siblings to be the same species. Rabbits in eastern culture are refined, smart, and often fragile, but surprisingly good fighters when backed into a corner. They're also symbolic of luck, usually good luck, which River as the albatross is.

Hehe, maybe I should have made Wash a lion? The short Story "what holds us down" where Kaylee concludes that Wash is a hero in his own way in that he makes other people brave... Might make it fit in some ways.
