The crew of Serenity is gathered around the kitchen table for dinner. Everyone's there except Inara (she's taken her shuttle see a client), Jayne, and the Tams. Simon bursts in, frantically scanning the room. Mal looks up at him, "You wanna tell me what's goin' on here?"

"River wanted to play hide-and-seek," replied Simon, "but I've looked everywhere, and...I think she's hiding in Inara's shuttle!"

Mal looks at Simon, dumbfounded.

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

Jayne walks into the dining room, overhearing the conversation.

"That girl ain't nothing but ruttin' trouble," Jayne says looking at Mal. "Course maybe she could learn a few things from hanging around Inara."

Simon gives Jayne a venomous look, and Mal rolls his eyes.

"Can't have your sister getting in trouble. No telling what kind of attention she might call down on us." Mal stands up and heads toward the bridge. "I'll call Inara to see if River is on her shuttle. Jayne, you help the doc look for her."

Jayne looks at Mal like a kid just told to take a bath.

"Why do I have to look for her? She ain't my crazy sister. 'Sides, I was going to get some grub." Jayne looks towards the galley.

"Kitchen's closed. Help the doc or it stays closed," Mal says as he heads up the stairs.

Jayne stands and looks at Simon. "Hope your sister ain't playin' around in the airlock. Be a powerful shame if she took a walk outside."

Simon shakes his head then heads toward River's room to look again.

"May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one."

FIRELILY

After Simon leaves, Kaylee follows after him. She finds him sitting on the edge of the bed, head in his hands, obviously distraught. Kaylee sits down next to him, puts her hand on his knee and says, "now don't you worry, we're gonna find 'er." Simon looks at her, nearly in tears. "You don't know all I've been through for her, to keep her safe. I look away for one minute and now she's...gone." Kaylee looks him intently in the eye, close to choking up herself, "She's not gone Simon"

"Aww, how touching" They look up and see Jayne standing in the doorway. "Well if your sister's gonna be causin' trouble for me, let's get to findin' her so's we can get this over with..."
Kaylee looks at Jayne, not noticing that Mal is approaching the room now too. "Well, Mal said he was gonna call up Inara..."

Mal, now in the doorway "She's not responding."
