Non-people hat tricks

Noticed two items that appear in all three Whedon-series. I would say jokes but the one isn't funny.

1) Statues with eyes that follow you. Well actually in season 3 of Angel it is a demon head with a single eye. Season 2 of Buffy has the trophy of Amy Madison's mom. Statue of Jayne.

2) Cutting off of ears. War Stories for Firefly. One of the first teenager Connor episodes (first full one I think). Pangs in season 4 of Buffy had the villian cut off ears.
