Ok, so it's not a sci fi series, but I figure a movie wouldn't get kicked out of the forum for eating crackers...

Reign of Fire was fun.

It's not set in 2084 A.D., the ads are lying- rather, it's set in 2020, maybe, or at latest 2040 (I forget, but it's like near future).

Basically, dragons were in the earth, and come out, and start eating everybody, hellbent, it seems, on the destruction of all life on the planet, including, of course, the human race.

Christian Bale plays the leader of a sort of weird survival colony in England, Matthew McConaughey plays a hardass Kentuckyan military (sorta) guy who comes to kick ass and take names. Both have been working out, and look downright tasty. This of course is irrelevant.

Basically, the dragons look really cool- I didn't think 'how the hell did they do that' even once during the film- they were just there and I accepted them (which is probably the best recommendation one can give for a special effect). McConaughey and Bale, both reasonably talented actors, bring good grit to the roles they play, and their scenes together are actually pretty riveting.

Overall, a good one for action, dragons, and suspense. There were definitely some moments at which I was on the edge of my seat, and I'd see it again without much arm twisting.

Worth matinee admission, definitely, and full price if you like a)dragons b)Christian Bale or Matthew McConaughey c)good post-apocalyptical action flicks or d) all of the above.
