That's great and all, and I would expect the network is using pre-orders as an indicator for if they are going to renew the show, but they are really shooting themselves in the foot. I mean, why would someone watch reruns (with the associated revenue from the commercials) when they could just pull out the DVD and watch it any they want, any episode they want. So, less channels are going to buy the show because the cost/benefit ratio is out of wack. So, less revenue for the content producer. So, less chance of renewal because the profits won't be as much if at all.

It's really a vicious cycle. Push up the DVD release to increase revenue because of those sales. But, then one decreases revenue from other sales. It just doesn't make any sense. They're shooting themselves in the foot.
