Why the hell don't they just set up in a parking lot and announce a Free Ice Give-Away for anyone who wants some? It's not like it would cost them MORE than letting it just melt and go to waste. I mean, it WILL melt, but it can be used to chill some food - or at least a cooler of beer - in the meantime.

Just seems wasteful, in my opinion.

Shit, drive some of it up to Austin and sell it for $0.50 a bag to the UT tailgaters on game day!

Actually , there's a very simple explanation for what happened :

A FEMA staffer overheard a news report concerning the 'destruction of Ike' , and he thought they'd said something about
'the destruction of ICE' , so he took some 'initiative' to insure that the government response would be timely and expedient...

He ordered the 'destruction of ice' to begin immediately...

Remember the Katrina response ?

One trucker had been directed to ELEVEN different states as drop-off points for his load of ice...Eventually , he just gave up on 'em...
