Is Kaylee's first given name supposed to be derived from Inuit?
Are the Tams supposed to be of asian descent?
What is the connection of Dortmunder? The only reference I have is Donald E. Westlake character, but I don't know why that's relevant.

Anybody know the connection with Dark Angel regarding Jose Molina? Or is he just some genius we should follow more?

No clue about the first question.

I think River and Simon were supposed to be asian actors, but they didn't go through with it.

Dortmunder could be referring to the German city Dortmund.

Kaylee's name is given as Kaywinnett Lee Frye. Have to say, the first bit sounds like a made-up name, with a slightly Southern/Country edge. I think she was supposed to be Asian, originally.

'Tam' is not only Asian, it's also Scottish. I think the idea was to have a very mixed vibe in the names, so that you don't have any preconceptions. The whole culture is a mix, down to the bilingual keyboards.

'Dortmunder' is a style of beer. Maybe there's a whole fleet out there - the 'Pilsner', the 'Ng-Ka-Pei', the 'Budweiser'...
