Have you seen them in any TV shows or movies? I've read the Bio's for all of them, and most of them I've never heard of before.

The ones I've seen:

Book by Rob Glass. "Barney Miller"

Jayne by Adam Baldwin. "X-Files"

Malcolm by Nathan Fillion. "Saving Private Ryan"

Zoe by Gina Torres. "Cleopatra 2525"

All of the others have done a bunch of stuff, but nothing I remember seeing. I'm just curious to know if anybody else has seen the actors before.

Tieka,
sharing with everyone

I know Summer Glau (River) played the prima ballerina in "Waiting in the Wings" on "Angel." It was her first acting job. I think she may be a friend of Amy Acker -- They're both ballerinas from Texas.

Alan Tudyk (Wash) was in "A Knight's Tale" and "28 Days." He was very good in both.

That leaves Morena Baccarin, Jewel Staite, and Sean Maher. I haven't seen any of these people act.

Isn't sad that I know all this info off the top of my head?

P.S. I'm so psyched about Gina Torres. She was awesome in Cleo2525 and Alias. And she looks great in the pilot pics.

Jewel Staite is most well-known in the children's television circuit. She starred on Disney/ABC's show Flash Foward and was in the cast of a Nickelodeon show called Space Cases (It was a "what if you crossed Star Trek with Lost in Space and made most the crew teenagers?" concept- she played an alien from Saturn) for the first season or so. According to IMDB, she just turned 20 three days ago- it's impressive and promising that she's done as much work as she has.

Also, Adam Baldwin has a small/medium size role in the movie Independence Day as (big shock here) an Army Major. He seems to be pegged in the "soldier" type cast. He also has a LONG list of movies that he's been in, some impressive- most embarressing.

Sean Maher starred in the update of Brian's Song that was made for tv and shown not too long ago. He's also been in several failed but supposively good shows.

And I believe Morena Baccarin has only done a few independant movies before Firefly. At least one of the movies is rumored to be good.

Lastly, Alan Tudyk did about three voices in the animated movie Ice Age, in case anyone wanted to know.

OK, solid cast. I just wish Whedon had thought to re-hire some of the people he killed off in Buffy. I miss Robia LaMorte!

MILLERNATE

I might as well do the rundown of the cast that I've posted at a couple of other places:

Nathan Fillion .... Malcolm 'Mal' Reynolds

His main past experience is in 2 Guys, a Girl, and a Pizza Place and the soap opera One Life to Live. It should be noted that Joss struck acting gold the last time that he cast someone whose main experience was in a soap opera (I think we all know who I'm talking about here, correct?).

Alan Tudyk .... Wash

I can't say what the actor will do with the character (which doesn't seem to be written to have much of a presence) but the actor does have a decent enough resume. He was trained at the Julliard School and did pretty good work in Wonder Boys, 28 Days, and A Kinght's Tale (though a lot of A Knight's Tale was poor it had nothing to do with his performance).

Jewel Staite .... Kaylee

I can honestly say that I haven't seen her in much. Though its worth noting that she at least has managed to get work consistently for a decade. She was in Space Cases, a show that 5 out fo the 7 voters on jumptheshark.com said was a show that never jumped for whatever that is worth.

Summer Glau .... River

Pretty much a complete unknown as her only previous work was a guest appearance on an episode of Angel. Imdb says that she was formerly a ballerina.

Sean Maher .... Simon

Graduated from NYU with a degree in drama for whatever that is worth. He earned a bit of praise for his performance in the extremely short lived series "Ryan Caulfield: Year One" (more praise than the actual series received as a whole actually). He also had the co-lead (with Mekhi Pheifer as Galey Sayers) in the recent remake of Brian's Song which earned a moderately positive rating on imdb (though I haven't seen it so I can't offer an opinion either way). He was also in the short lived Wall Street series, The $treet.

Gina Torres .... Zoe

She was on Cleopatra 2525 which is a show that I hated. She also has had re-occuring parts on both Hercules and, more recently, on Alias which I haven't seen. Semi-ironically, she was in a TV movie called...Dark Angel (obviously very different but I thought it was semi-humorous considering that a show called Dark Angel occupied that time-slot at the start of last season).

Ron Glass (I) .... Book

WhoooHO a Barney Miller veteran is cast! Glass was very good on Miller (though admittedly not the best one of the very talented cast) and was also pretty decent in The Education of Max Bickford.

Morena Baccarin .... Inara

This is someone that I'm actually semi-interested in seeing as she is another virtual unknown. Her only 2 roles previous to this are in the independent movies Way Off Broadway (which received a 9.5 rating from imdb voters though admittedly those ratings are essentially meaningless) and Perfume (which she did with Ms. Tom Hanks, Rita WIlson though this got a lesser rating from imdb users) both of which came out last year. She sort of resembles Sherilynn Fenn

Adam Baldwin .... Jayne

He played Animal Mother in Stanley Kubrick's Full Metal Jacket (a good performance in a good movie) which gives him points in my book. He has also had roles in The Patriot and Independce Day (which someone online describing both as thankless but well-acted) as well as a recent part on the X-Files so he at least has some experience.

It should also be noted that imdb lists Mark Sheppard (from Soldier of Fortune) as a guest star in the first episode and he could very easily become a semi-reoccuring character.

*emerges from a three day post-free zone *

Geez... I was thinking for a second that I'd never gain access to a computer for the rest of my life!

So, anyway... I have indeed seen some of their performances

Mainly, I've enjoyed Alan Tudyk... I've seen several of his plays (due to recommendations from a fan on animeondvd.com) in New York, but I liked him most in Epic Proportions... he's a *very* good performer, with a lot of presence... Much like James Marsters was a highly sought ofter broadway actor before he joined the Buffy cast, I believe Tudyk will be the highlight of the acting talent on the show. (You can image the irony when I found out he was cast in Firefly!)

I saw Nathan Fillion in Saving Private Ryan and Two Guys and A Girl. I can't say I have a handle on his acting ability from these two... performances. He did win a Daytime Emmy for his work on One Life to Live, which bodes well for his ability.

I have seen Jewel Staite in Flash Forward and Space Cases (thank you to whoever brought this up... I couldn't remember the name of the show!). I really liked her in Space Cases, but I didn't much care for her character in Flash Forward, though I did like the show.

I liked Sean Maher in the remake of Brian's Song, but I hated the actual show (I was forced to watch it after my mother claimed that "Disney is Better than you!" It was a funny situation, actually... but I guess you had to be there ).

I can't remember Adam Baldwin in anything, though I've seen several of the movies he's been in...

Never seen anything Gina Torres or Ron Glass have been in, so I can't comment on them...

ANYWAY... I don't think Joss could have picked a better cast for the feel of the show he was going for.

CHARLIEBLUE

I've seen a few of them, at least a little bit.

Alan Tudyk -- A Knight's Tale. Granted, maybe it's not the next Citizen Kane, but he did alright with it.

Gina Torres -- I vaguely remember seeing her on that Cleopatra show. Couldn't really form any opinion except that she's got tacky taste in shows.

Summer Glau -- The only other TV show she's ever done. Granted, she was a ballerina playing a ballerina....

Adam Baldwin -- Saw him in Independence Day. (He was the guy that shot the can off the spaceship.) Small role, I think he did decently, though it's been a while.

Jewel Staite -- I'm a pretty big fan of hers, actually, so I've seen several things she was in. I remember Space Cases (a little young for me then, but good for what it was), Flash Forward (great show with a good all-around cast, I thought), X-Files (she was the girl in "Oubliette"--mostly a lot of cowering), Higher Ground (a twist from her usual nice-girl character--I liked it), and I caught a couple of episodes of this Honey, I Shrunk the Kids TV show she was on (I was too busy going "dwa?" to make any good judgements).

JEWELSTAITEFAN

My primary reference was Jewel Staite. She was on an episode of X-Files.

Then was Adam Baldwin from Independence Day, My Bodyguard, FMJ.

I had known of Ron Glass because my dad always wAtched Barney Miller for some reason.

Had seen Sean Maher in The $treet, which I watched as much as I could. I think the only TV series that Jennifer Connelly was in.

Saw Nathan Fillion in Saving Private Ryan, but didn't recognize him by sight of name.

Saw Alan Tudyk in some things, but not memorable for me in them.

Morena and Summer were new to me.

Had seen Mark Sheppard in Lady In The Box, a local production, and i knew some of the crew.
