(during the first scene, where River is reading minds):

INARA: I put out a wave to some old acquaintances...I may even be able to find something in New Melbourne, if you need the shuttle free.

MAL: We're just going to be there long enough to pick up cargo. You know, the only thing you are going to find in New Melbourne is fish...and fish-related activities. So unless you got the overwhelming urge to gut sturgeon -- and, who hasn't, occasionally?

(River comes down the stairs, unnoticed by Mal and Inara, and overhears the following)

INARA: But it's a lay-over point for almost every planet this side of the system, I could...I just don't want to draw this out.

MAL: Have you decided when you are going to tell the others?

INARA: I...no. I appreciate your not saying anything.

MAL: Well, I don't. So make up your mind

(River being all psychic):
INARA: I'm a big girl, just tell me.
MAL: None of it means a damn thing.
(River flees)

Also, as mentioned by Joss in his commentary, at the end of the episode when Mal and Inara are talking outside of the infirmary, he lifts her chin and asks how her lip is (where Early hit her), there's a clear tension and awkwardness.

...now if someone could just explain Jayne's "mind readin' genius" comment to me, I'd be satisfied...well, no. I won't be satisfied until we get more Firefly, gorrammit!!!
