America loves a winner!

but most of the 'garden variety' vamps we see in Joss's shows are moronic lunk heads w/ fangs?

Seriously, Drac was suave, dark figure wraped in shadow and mystery, and a real babe magnet too!

People love a happy ending. So every episode, I will explain once again that I don't like people. And then Mal will shoot someone. Someone we like. And their puppy. - Joss

" They don't like it when you shoot at 'em. I worked that out myself. "

I’ve never understood this. Dracula was supposed to be this ancient and powerful vampire, but another vampire was certainly far older, Kakistos, who was introduce with Faith. There are clearly some plot and continuity issues that I don’t understand. But I suspect that the whole Dracula thing was a ruse to deflect attention form Dawn, who mysterious appears in this episode, and completely alters the entire timeline of the show.

I can accept a lot from a show I like...

but I found the Buffy vs. Dracula ep corny, silly and beneath Whedon standards. It would have been more Whedonesque to write that the real Dracula was some fangbang wanna be and all the real vamps of the time period hated him.

I can't stand that ep.

IMHO.

While it wasn't the best episode, there were some things I liked about it. Particularly the bit about Xander becoming Dracula's Renfield ("I'm finished being everybody's butt monkey!")

I think the purpose of the episode was to show how much of a departure Joss had made from traditional vampire myths. In Reading The Vampire Slayer, one essayist states that Dracula wasn't cut out for the Buffyverse because of his lack of a sense of humor. Which is understandable, since you'll notice Dracula didn't exactly last long in the series.

Maybe I shouldn't have used 'Dracula' as my primary example. Even Angel and Spike, to a lesser degree, show signs of being truly evil and exceptionally dangerous at times, when most of the vamps in the shows are such vapid morons.

Though I agree w/ comments about how 'Dracula' doesn't really fit into the Buffy 'verse, I did enjoy the ending - where after he's staked, he tries to reappear, and Buffy's all indignant and all.. " I'm standing RIGHT here " . Made me laugh

Anybody reading (read: anybody able to find) the Spike vs. Dracula comics?

Yeah, Dracula's all style and flair. With the exception of the resurrection spell, most of his magic is based on glamours (hiding his vamp-face, the use of familiars, the [apparent] shape-changing, the enthrallment). Purely surface effects. He's perfectly happy to hog the spotlight and not actually accomplish anything. The vampire equivalent of Paris Hilton.

Spike and Angel are commoners (as are most of Buffy's victims), but Dracula has noble blood in his veins. Even as a human, he was a stuck-up ponce.

Oh God Cyber, that's hilarious. Thanks for the laugh.

As for the topic since I don't watch the show and only caught a brief look of that episode while changing channels I found it to be an insult to the Dracula image, for God sake he was and is the ONE vampire, the first. Every vampire story after that can be thanked by his creation. Buffy may come and go but Drac will always be a legend.

But that was still funny......

 If I'm a bitch, then life just got interesting

Dracula is a nod from the writers and the whole video Vampire world since it became into being on the big screen and books. You couldn't have BtVS without some Dracula reference.

It was handled very well if you asked me. I just wish Buffy had not killed him.

One does not frak with a Legend; you let him go.

What makes you think she did ? Sure, she staked him, but that didn't kill him. Watch the ending of that ep again. It's pretty funny and leaves the issue of his demise in considerable question.

He skulked back home with his etherial tail between his legs, still owing Spike that eleven quid.
