TV western's Top Gun is featured in the newest Guns of the Old West magazine at your local book store. Zoe's side kick is in it dating back to Steve McQueen's Wanted Dead or Alive. I also saw it used in Brisco County Jr with Sheena Easton the bounty hunter the gun is as big as she is. I understand in the companion manual some of the crew was from Briscoe who introduced it in Firefly. It fits Zoe's style just like ole Steves'.

I'm sorry. I don't like that gun. It's a bad-ass prop, yeah, but as a firearm?
The barrel is too short to develop energy from the powder charge, to give it range, like a Winchester. Short barrel also causes short sight radius, which means lack of accuracy. And the short barrel also causes a short magazine- the thing can only hold , what, maybe 4 rounds? less than a six-gun revolver, which means lotsa reloads in an extended firefight.
And the cut off stock means ya gotta shoot it one handed, like Zoe does in the opening of OMR- nice action prop, but not really practical. And come to think, that big 44-40 cartridge, even if black powder, would have a bunch of recoil. Wonder what it would do to her wrist?

I enjoyed your thread. Matter of fact I agree with it. Should get the magazine and also read in the ff companion vol 1 on this revolver. This carbine is considered a revolver since 1934 FA act. The mag reveiw said it shoots good and with grouping. But Seve McQ used 1/4 powdered blanks cause the full powdered blanks outside knock him and the camera down. Now they used a pre 64 '73 model to cut down said it was better than the '92 model which Briscoe series had. BCjr said it was more reliable than the '73 go figure. Now I have never shot 44.40 but all my Winchesters topps. Including ammo .22, 30/30, 45lc, and big bore. I guess Browning is going to make new winchesters soon. They bought the rights since WC is out of buisness. Also Rossi is making the '92 model zoe style in .22, 38/357, 45lc, and 44.40. Limited edition of 500 runs about $1500.00 may come out with s/s for 2k. Also belts from $125.00 to $250.00. In the companion when zoe wasn't shooting her sidekick it was made of hard rubber for light weight. Now I'll be looken for it. I need another gun like I need to eat another chicken wing.
