My apologies if this has been asked before, but where were the planet-side shots in Firefly filmed at? They look something like western US in CA, NV, or AZ, but I'm just curious because I can't specifically identify the places.

Thanks. :) The terrain in The Train Job reminded me vaguely of my experiences in the Mojave Desert and in Utah/Arizona, but I think it was most likely CGI.

you know there was a great guide book to all the location shooting places for LOTR.. this would be a great project for some browncoat.. and a book...

the guide to Firefly locations... hehehe

I give the idea free and clear to anyone who might want to attempt it!

I happen to KNOW that some of Serenity was filmed at the Huntington Library in San Marino as a friend works there and it was the first time they ever had employees wanting to see the director at work, rather than some actor..lol.. joss has many smart groupies!!

I've actually been to some of the LOTR filming sites a couple years ago when I was in New Zealand. It was pretty hard to recognize them because they had been so CGIed and doctored up for the film. I vaguely recognized Isengard.

I believe that the store front location in Shindig where Kaylee found her dress is the Universal Studio's backlot location where the small town store fronts are located. I was just there a short while ago and it sure looks like that was the location.

The small canyon where Mal, Zoe and Patience meet (Whitefall) in the pilot is very recogizable. It's the same one where the outdoor shots for MASH were filmed. I'd recoginize it anywhere.
