Is Mr. Universe "Serenity's" Judas?

Since I've been stuck here at the library working on finals this question has been plaguing me.

After Mr Universe sends that last transmission to Zoe and Mal he turns to The Operative and says, "There, now toss me my thirty coin bag..."

With all of the other religious overtones in the film, I'm skeptical that the number 30 was chosen randomly in this scene, especially since he just says "coins" - they could easily have used 20 or 50 or 300 coins and it wouldn't have seemed implausible to a viewer (since we know very little about how the currency in the 'verse would convert to ours).

Oh, and since I haven't said it: Judas supposedly betrayed Jesus for thirty pieces of silver. Hence my question. Any insight? Commentary? Anyone willing to work that theory through more fully?

It seems to me that Mr Universe wasn't precisely willing to help the Operative, but having a squad of troopers pointing weapons at you can be a great motivator. I think he was trying to get a dig in at the Operative. The reference to Judas is pretty clear with the "toss me my thirty coin" phrase, but I think he was going to try to mitigate his actions with the "but I've got a news wave...." phrase he was starting to say when he was stabbed. That's my take on it anyway.
