Not that I'm purposely trying to keep this thread "bumped," but I just can't not respond to these sorts of threads anymore. (I never used to be so negative... really....)

For a fanbase that is supposedly so "intelligent," there is a disconcertingly large number of fans who shoot right past reality and go to the dillusional "Daddy, can I get a pony? We can keep it in the garage!" mindset.

There are many, many things to consider and resolve long before any decisions are made on who should air the show. Like, oh I dunno, the Rights? (Lawyers bad, tree pretty!) Or even whether or not Joss and the rest of the cast want to do it.

But, hey, why bother with logic when you have fanaticism to keep you going? Best o'luck.

If Joss has the rights to it, he could go to Paramount. I dont really see how online petitions can work. People can just get their freinds,family, ect who dont care about it sign it. Also dont petitions like this come up all the time? So how will the execs find out about it, and furthermore care? Anyways, i still signed it and got everyone i know to also (haha cant hurt right?). So everyone lets do this for the hell of it and maybe make some noise! I WANT MORE FIREFLY... its just too good to end at 14 episodes and a movie. Really i will do whatever it takes for more.

These petitions were useless three years ago, and they are even of less use now....

read any interview or any commentary with the crew and actors and you can almost see the regret that they didn't get to continue with it oozing from the page. I really don't think that getting the people who made it to come back is going to be a problem.

As for the rights, I think having cancelled it, the network is in a pretty weak legal position, the only thing they could do would be hold the right to ransom.

In that case we just have to hope that Joss's lawyers are more evil than the networks.

Yes, it will. I'm not an expert on the movie buisiness, but it has been four years, and no matter how much Nathen, Jewel et al love the series, Joss has moved on to other things, and his stars signed a contract which doesn't allow them to appear in another firefly TV show.

not sure where it was, but that rumor I think was signed off as total bunkum, knowing actors, theres no way you'd get them to sign something like that with out complaining endlessly.

Even without that, I don't think commandments like that are usually included in normal contracts. Theres just no point - you don't wanna make a show, but why ruin your chances of recieving fat cheques if someone else does? I can understand people thinking that something like that could be stipulated, but it just doesn't come off as good business practice. (or rather, good money making) Not to mention that its very likely that all contracts were declared null and void at the cancelling of the show, the only thing that Fox have control over is the character and series patents or whatever the word that applies to thought copyrighting is.

Technically, they put the show on 'hiatus,' which, while theoretically the same as cancelled - because they have no interest in renewing it - is probably different when talking about legalities.

I didn't realize this was actually an old thread... I tried to sign the petition and it told me I already had! I don't even remember signing it. Although, the really odd thing is, I just joined here in July, the thread's from way before then, and I never knew about "Firefly" until a few months ago... How in the world did I hear about this thing and sign it? Ah, well. It doesn't matter.

As for the debate on whether or not it will actually work... who knows, but what does it hurt to go ahead and sign? I don't see much of a bad side to it, so why not? Though, I have to agree... spellcheck & some proofreading would've been a very nice touch.

I like Firefly, I really do. So don't get me wrong when I say that maybe it is time that people stop trying to revive the show. Firefly's gone, and there isn't going to be a Season 2.

Maybe if we started to concentrate support for a new series (like Firefly, but of course it wouldn't be Firefly) that takes place after Serenity.

The reason it wouldn't be Firefly is that you would have lost two cast members and perhaps added new ones.

Within the last five days I have undergone a tumultuous journey. Five (5) days ago I was roped into watching a video when I wasn't feeling good and couldn't put up much of a fight as to what I wanted to watch. I started watching the premier of Firefly and the first 2 or 3 min. did not do a whole lot for me. Within the next 2 or 3 min. I was hooked and have spent the remainder of said 5 days watching every Firefly episode and Serinity. I'm a total addict now and compleatly distraught to find there is no more Firefly to be found!!!!!! What the hell? I was more then happy to sign the petition and hope that it will actualy do some good. I miss Firefly already and just watched the last episode no more then 45 min. ago.

Probably right Ecgo, that is why I am posting on various boards for everyone to post on Sci-Fi Firefly board. Let's outnumber the BSG posts there. Believe me the suits will see that. Those stats get reviewed. And they pay a lot for BSG to keep flying. This is something real and effective that us browncoats can do! Yea, I had an idea very similiar to this about a new thread on that board that said rate and discuss the new firefly episode and then we all give fake reviews and applause to the network for bringing it back. The idea was for the thread to get insanely long insanely fast to show how much support the show has. -e

Thats a good idea too. I just want people to realize that the place most likely to get noticed is the scifi board. Companies like scifi look at the usage stats for any web site that they are paying for. THe multitude of fan sites are great and all, but fans eed to have a policy of visiting SciFI boards AND THEN any fan sites they like. There are certainly enough browncoats out there, but to be noticed they need to spend time on scifi, even if they dont post, just browse. Those stats are recorded. I know, it's what I do for a living.
