I'm confused as to how many different comics there are based on Buffy that JW has actually done some writing in. I know there are the Buffy comics. There are also comics based on Angel I believe, but does JW do any writing for those? And are there any others?

Joss writes and/or oversees the current Buffy comic, and is consulted on the current Angel: After the Fall comic. Everything else is merely allowed by him.

Just to expand on what Chris said, there are two current comic series: "Buffy, Season 8" and "Angel: After the Fall".

Joss is serving as executive producer on Season 8, just like he did on the TV show: writing some scripts himself, and reviewing and editing the scripts written by others.

"After the Fall" is written exclusively by Brian Lynch, but he and Joss got together and worked out the basic overall plot for it, including using some of the ideas Joss originally had planned for S6 of the show.

These two series, and the miniseries "Fray" are the only Buffyverse comics considered "canon". All the others, like the novels, make for enjoyable reading (well, some of them, anyway) but aren't an 'official' part of the continuity...
